Warm-up and Objective Discussion (5 mins)


Show Ss the cover of the storybook. Ask,
‘What do you see?’,
‘Have you ever seen Santa before?’,
‘If there is Santa, when does he come and how does he come?’.
-Santa, Christmas, sled…
Elicit more vocabulary about Christmas from Ss and write them on the board.

Discussion:
This book is about a little boy who is expecting Santa. So whatever he heard, he thought, “It
must be Santa!” In this class we will read through this storybook, and learn a new grammar
point.

【Reading】
Jigsaw Activity for reading (10mins)
1. Divide the class into 4 groups, and assign each group to read 1/4 of the story.
2. Reform new groups with one member from each original group. And have Ss to share
information with their new groups.

【Grammar】(15mins)
1. (Model) Elicit a list of present continuous tense verbs from Ss. (Ask Ss to find the words
in the story.)
2. Introduce the meaning of present continuous tense.
3. (Infer) Have Ss infer the rules of present continuous tense.
4. (Elaborate) Elaborate the rules of present continuous tense.
 The use of be verb
 The -ing form of verbs
+ing / e +ing / ending consonant + ing

Guided Practice (15mins)  R ■ W  L  S


1. Write 5 verbs on the board (run / dance / jump / sing / write). Teacher read a verb, and let
Ss reply with the -ing form spelling.
2. List another 6 verbs on the board (come / go / take / say / clap / sip). Have Ss work in pairs
to transform them into -ing form. Make sure each pair includes fast and slow Ss.
3. Have Ss to write their answer onto the board.
4. Put a subject before each Verb-ing. And have Ss to make sentences accordingly.
Independent Practice (5mins)  R ■ W  L  S
Have Ss to observe one person in the classroom, and to write down 5 complete sentences what
(s)he is doing.

Assesment(10mins) ■ R ■ W ■ L ■ S
1. Have Ss read their sentences to the classroom, and let the others guess who (s)he is talking
about.
