(i) BASIC DATA:

(a) Brand of Cement: DALMIA OPC 43 GRADE

(b) Nominal maximum size of aggregates: 20 mm
(c) Shape of Coarse Aggregate (CA): Angular/irregular
(d) Degree of workability required: 75-100 mm (slump)
(e) Degree of quality control available: As per – IS 10262:2009
(f) Reference Standard Method for conc.: IS: 456 – 2000

(ii) STANDARD DATA OF USED MATERIALS :

(a) Specific gravity of cement — : 3.15

(b) Specific gravity of Fine Aggregate (FA)/Sand : 2.64
(c) Specific gravity of Coarse Aggregate (CA) — : 2.84
(d) Aggregate is assumed : Surface dry condition.
(e) Fine aggregates confirm : Zone III (IS – 383)

(iii) LABORATORY TEST PROCEDURE :

Step 1 — Determination of Target Strength:

Himsworth constant for 5% risk factor is 1.65.

In this case standard deviation (s) is taken from IS 10262:2009
( against M 25 is 4.0.(N/mm2))[Table – 1 Assumed Standard Deviation of the code]

Now Targeted Compressive Strength Formula:

f targeted = fck + 1.65 x S
= 25 + 1.65 x 4.0 = 31.6 N/mm2

Step 2 — Selection of water / cement ratio:-

From the Table-5, IS 456: 2000

Maximum water-cement ratio for M 25, (Concrete) = 0.50
Here, adopted water-cement ratio as = 0.48
Step 3 — Selection of Water Content:

From IS 10262- 2009: Table – 2,

Maximum Water Content = 186 Kg (for Nominal maximum size of aggregate 20 mm)

We got the water content for 75-100mm Slump

= 186 + 6/100 x 186
= 197 kg/m3

Step 4 — Selection of Cement Content:

Adopted Water-cement ratio = 0.48
Corrected cement content = Estimated water content /(w/c)
= 197/0.48 =410.00 kg /m3

Minimum Cement Content = 300 kg/m3.) ...................... IS - 456: 2000 (Table - 5)

Hence cement content adopted = 410.00 kg/m3

Erec India Research Laboratory

Ref No.: EREC/MES/ EP/JRT/2019/1304

Step 5: Estimation of Chemical Admixture:

SIKAMENT 2002 NS FOR CONCRETE ADMIXTURE
Volume of chemical admixture, assuming dosage of 1.2% by weight of cementitious
material and specific gravity of 1.1
1.2 kg
= × 410 = 4.92
100 m3

Total = 4.92 kg/m3

Step 6: Estimation of Coarse & Fine Aggregate proportion:

TOTAL AGGREGATE = COARSE Aggregate + FINE Aggregate

I) COARSE AGGREGATE:

Considering Nominal maximum size of aggregate at 20 mm, in Zone III,

The Volume of Coarse Aggregate is = 0.64............. (Table 3, IS 10262- 2009)

From Table 3. volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm size aggregate

and fine aggregate (Zone III)
for water-cement ratio of 0.50 =0.64.

In the present case water-cement ratio is 0.48. Therefore. volume of coarse

aggregate is required to be increased to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the
water-cement ratio is lower by 0.10. the proportion of volume of coarse aggregate is
increased by 0.02 (at the rate of -/+ 0.01 for every ± 0.05 change in water-cement
ratio).
Therefore Change for w/c ratio= 0.50-0.48
= 0.02

For w/c ratio decrease of 0.02 the aggregate proportion will increase by
0.01
= x0.02 = 0.004
0.05

Corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate for the water-cement ratio of

0.48 = 0.644.

.ii)
FINE AGGREGATE (Sand) :
Volume of fine aggregate (Sand) = (1 - 0.644) =0.356
