Expectations
In this module, you are expected to infer how one’s lifestyle can affect the functioning of
respiratory and circulatory systems. (S9LT-lc-27)
Specifically, this module will help you to:
1. explain the different types of circulation;
2. explain the mechanism of how the respiratory and circulatory systems work together;
3. conduct an information dissemination activity on effective ways of taking care of the
respiratory and circulatory systems;
4. recognize the functioning of respiratory and circulatory system of the body.

Pre-Test
DIRECTIONS: Read each question carefully. Choose and write the letter of the correct answer
on another sheet of paper.
1. Which of the following movement of blood from the heart to the lungs, and back to the
heart?
a. Systemic Circulation c. Coronary Circulation
b. Pulmonary Circulation d. None of the above
2. Which part of the heart pumps the blood in pulmonary circulation _______________.
a. Right ventricle c. Left ventricle
b. Left atrium d. Right atrium
3. Which part of the circulatory system delivers richly oxygenated blood to the body?
a. Super venacava c. Pulmonary artery
b. Aorta d. Tricuspid valve
4. What part delivers deoxygenated blood to the lungs?
a. Pulmonary artery c. Left ventricle
b. Pulmonary vein d. Aorta
5. Which of the following statements correctly states the flow of the blood in the body?
a. The right side of the heart blood flows from the right ventricle to the inferior vena
cava to the aorta.
b. The right side of the heart blood flows from the right ventricle to the pulmonic valve to
the pulmonary artery.
c. The right side of the heart blood flows from the right ventricle to the tricuspid valve to
pulmonary artery.
d. The right side of the heart blood flows from the right ventricle to the tricuspid valve to
pulmonary vein.

Looking Back
In your previous lesson in Science, you have learned the parts of Respiratory and Circulatory
Systems. Can you still recall their parts? Let’s have a simple activity to recall the different parts
of Respiratory and Circulatory Systems.

Directions: Write RESPIRATORY if the word represents parts of the respiratory system and
CIRCULATORY if the word represents parts of the circulatory system. Write it in your
notebook.

Brief Introduction
Blood is pumped out to reach the body cells then blood passes from arteries into a
network of fine tubes called capillaries. Body cells will use oxygen to produce energy and gives
off carbon dioxide. After delivery of oxygen, the blood flows through different veins. Afterwards,
the deoxygenated blood flows back to the heart going to the right atrium and again to the right
ventricle.

The right ventricle will pump

the deoxygenated blood towards the
lungs passing through the pulmonary
artery. In the lungs oxygenation takes
place, and then the oxygenated blood
will proceed to the left atrium. Passing through the pulmonary vein, it will go to the left
ventricle, and the cycle continues.
Air first enters your lungs and then into the left atrium part of your heart. It is then driven by
your heart into the bloodstream, all the way through your body. The heart pumps blood, which
transports essential nutrients, oxygen, and other chemicals to every cell in your body.
Once it reaches the cells, oxygen processes the nutrients to release energy. Carbon dioxide is
given off during this process. The blood delivers carbon dioxide into the right portion of your
heart, from which it is pumped to the lungs. Carbon dioxide leaves your body through the lungs
when you exhale.

There are three types of

circulation. Pulmonary
Circulation is a movement of
blood from the heart, to the
lungs and back to the heart.
Coronary Circulation is the
movement of blood through
the tissues of the heart. The
last type of circulation, the
Systemic Circulation is the
movement of blood from the
heart to the rest of the body,
excluding the lungs.

Activities

Activity 1. The Right pathway!

Objective: Determine the different structures of the heart and lungs involved in the transport of
blood in different parts of the body.
Directions: Read the paragraph below and choose the right word from the word bank to
complete the statements.
Activity 2. Body Cycle!
Objective: Determine the types of Circulation
Directions: Read each statement below about types of circulation. Determine if it refers to
Systemic Circulation, Pulmonary Circulation, or Coronary Circulation. Write your
answer in your science notebook.
_________1. It is the movement of blood from the heart to the rest of the body, excluding the
lungs.
_________2. It is the movement of blood from the heart, to the lungs, and back to the heart.
_________3. It composes of inferior and superior vena cava, aorta, and other small blood
vessels.
_________4. It carries blood throughout the body.
_________5. It carries blood to the lungs.
_________6. It carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the lungs through the
pulmonary artery.
_________7. It carries deoxygenated blood from the body to the right atrium of the heart by
the superior and inferior vena cava.
_________8. It composes of the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein.
_________9. It carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium of the heart by the
pulmonary vein.
_________10. It is the movement of blood from the heart to the rest of the body, excluding
the lungs.
Activity 3. CIRJING Oh!!!!
Objective: Create jingle about effective ways of taking care of the respiratory and circulatory
systems.
Directions: Make a brief jingle about effective ways of taking care of the respiratory and
circulatory system. You can do it individually or with partner. Write it in your notebook. (You can
post it in front of your house or a social media platform like Facebook or Instagram.

Remember
 The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood coming from the different parts of the
body
 Left atrium collects oxygenated blood from the lungs.
 The right ventricle pumps the deoxygenated blood from the right atrium to the lungs for
oxygenation
 Left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood outside the heart towards the different parts of
the body.
 Pulmonary Circulation is the movement of blood from the heart, to the lungs, and back
to the heart.
 Coronary Circulation is the movement of blood through the tissues of the heart.
 Systemic Circulation is the movement of blood from the heart to the rest of the body,
excluding the lungs.

Checking Your Understanding

Directions: Draw the correct pathway of blood flow using the following concept figure below. Write
your answer in your notebook.
