Airbus Review
• In-Service Experience and Engineering Feedback not similar

Flight Operations / Flight Crews Engineering

• Numerous single bleed system • Few logbook entry/reports from

failure flight crews

• Pilots DO perform engine bleed • No/few maintenance on bleed

reset in flight system

• Bleed reset may be successful • As per report, bleed system

and allow flight continuation reliability within specification

Airbus Review – Flight Operations considerations

• Bleed resets become “Normal Procedure” for Flight Crews

• Without clear system assessment:

• Risk of bleed failure propagation

• Risk of delaying emergency

ECAM actions while attempting
several bleed resets

• No report to the maintenance

Risk of dual bleed failure during

subsequent flights

• ENG BLEED FAULT reflects a system
fault even if temporary.

• ENG BLEED FAULT is a class 1 fault HP

Inspection must be performed before next flight,

Bleed Reset Policy

Taking into account the following considerations...

Reset without defined guidelines may lead to:

• Degrade the situation
• Disturb the flight crew during abnormal/emergency procedure

Successful bleed reset without reporting leads to:

• Less corrective maintenance actions after flight
• High rates of recurrent fault

Bleed Reset Policy

Bleed reset procedures will be included in the QRH to:

• Specify the Bleed Reset conditions:

• Provide appropriate aircraft configuration
• When reset possible: Only one reset attempt

• Encourage systematic logbook entry to ensure:

• Adequate maintenance action
• Adequate reporting to Airbus Support Engineering
• Correct assessment of bleed system reliability

Bleed Reset Policy

Enhancement of the ECAM procedure to:

• Consider Bleed Reset, when suitable

• Cover the Dual Bleed Failure

(A320 & A330 aircraft families)

• Define new maintenance messages

Conclusion
Bleed System Reset policy is defined:

Bleed Reset Enhance ECAM

Procedure in QRH for future FWC std

This policy and procedure review aim at enhancing:

• Safety by avoiding mismanagement of procedure
