 6.0 Introduction

 Marking works to be done to allow a

building constructed according to
specifications of the plan.
 The position of the building will be shown
on site plan.
Therefore, the process of setting out is to
realize the dimensions of the site plan and
drawings of buildings to the actual site.

 6.1 Objective of Setting Out

1) As an initial guideline to locate the position of

proposed building, i.e. direction, building line
(wall).
2) To make sure building was constructed in actual
setting, i.e. distance from road, drainage &
adjoining premises.
* distance from building line to pedestrian
walkway should be at least 8 meters.
3) To obtain accurate dimensions of the building, i.e.
square.

1 Builders square / set To determine the exact angle of the

square building.

2 3-4-5 triangle To determine the exact angle of the

building.
3 Profiles board / batter To protect the demarcation line of the
boards building.
4 Telescope To determine the level & vertical.

5 Measurement tape To measure the distance.

6 Peg To mark the point where the building

line meet.
7 Plumb bob To determine the location of peg point.

 6.4 Setting Out Works
 Determine the baseline building based on building
dimension as shown in the plan, i.e. long & width.
 Locate profiles board / batter board at the building
angles with dimension at least 4 ft from the
building line.
 Pull string between profiles board / batter board to
mark the building line.
 Put builders square to control the building angle &
use plumb bob to get the angle point of building.
 Locate peg at building angle.
