Wake County GOP Endorses Mary Beth Moore for Wake School Board,
District 5, As a Write-in Candidate On the November Ballot

October 2, 2020 – Raleigh, NC – “The Candidate Recruitment Committee and I met with Mary
Beth Moore (https://www.facebook.com/MaryBethforWake) on Tuesday, September 29, and
after a good hour plus of conversation, voted unanimously to recommend her for Endorsement”
stated Donna Williams, Wake GOP Chair. Williams continued, “In an unusual move, the
Committee and I both endorsed Moore even with her voter registration standing as ‘UNA’ and,
as a write-in candidate. Her intelligence, caring and Conservative values impressed us most and
led to the unanimous endorsement without hesitation.”

Endorsement Committee Chair Cathy Fanslau commented, “Mary Beth is a very intelligent,
capable leader who lives in Holly Springs. A former Marine Intelligence Analyst, she is the
mother of 4 children, one child with special needs. She presents herself confidently and is an
organized, thoughtful speaker and particularly sensitive to the needs of all children, special needs
and otherwise.”

Moore’s drive to seek the endorsement and run was based on a history of finding Wake Schools
unresponsive to families and unwilling to drive needed changes. “Unrest among parents
throughout Wake County has escalated over the past few weeks in regard to our public schools,”
Moore stated. “People are frustrated and feel that the board isn't listening. Specifically in District
5, families feel that Jim Martin has been dismissive about student well-being and unwilling to
work with the rest of the board on a way to get our children back to in-person learning. Families
felt helpless and wanted another option on the ballot.” Moore continued, “ A huge up swell in
social media groups began pushing for someone to run who would stand up for both families and
teachers and put our students first. So I stood up.” Martin, who currently teaches at NCSU, ran
for School Board in 2011 and still holds that seat.

“It's clear” Moore continued, “that parent frustration is escalating with the challenges
experienced with the implementation of virtual learning. Teachers haven't been given adequate
time and resources to plan, families can't replicate a school day in their homes, costs to attend
learning centers means public education is no longer free, students are dejected, and the IT
infrastructure just isn't able to handle the load of simultaneous remote learning for a district this
size. It's time for someone who is willing to do the hard work required to move the district
forward and Jim Martin has shown that moving forward isn't on his agenda."

Moore is running for the Wake County School Board in District 5 as a GOP-endorsed write-in-
candidate.
