3.2 Career Paths – PORTFOLIO ENTRY ASSIGNMENT

1.1.2 -- Identify the scope of career opportunities and the requirements for education, training,
certification, licensure, and experience.

Teaching has been something that has been desirable as it includes a lot of my passions.

With the correct education, training and experiences one is bound to be a successful educator.

Teaching is a great career choice as it fits within my ideal life and would be a great option for

my personality as I am able to acquire all of those requirements needed to work in the

classroom. Teaching is great as it fits my interests, personality and abilities will help with the

post secondary needs and create opportunities to fit my personal plan.

As cited in my concept map of my personality along with skills and interests, I have

the ideal qualities to fit in the education field (evidence 3.2.1). As mentioned in my concept

map, I have participated in activities that have showcased my leadership and interests for

the ability to collaborate and be a part of a team. These various extracurricular activities

showcase not only my interests but my skills. My activities include marching band, courier

(my school’s newspaper), broadcast, theatre, babysitting and various other activities

through my school. All these interests have taught very important qualities that are vital to

success. In marching band, I learned first hand how to communicate and respect others in

order to make the best collaborative effort. Through my leadership role of being studio

manager and script writer in broadcast, I achieved the ability to hold others accountable

and stay organized. Through Courier I learned through being an editor how to give and
receive criticism. Through theatre I learned how to raise my voice, be courageous and how

to speak in front of an audience. With babysitting and working with little kids as a teacher

helper at my dance studio, I learned how to connect with kids and to show compassion.

Through my job at Playtos Closet, I learned the importance of working hard and the true

importance of money. These qualities I have mentioned all fit the requirements of being a

teacher and my personality traits as shown as being communitative, respectful,

responsible, and courageous as outlined in my personality report (evidence 3.2.2).

In my career plan (evidence 3.2.3) I outlined what my next steps are in fulfilling the

requirements to become a teacher. After highschool, I plan to ​earn a bachelor's degree in

elementary education as my overall goal to become a primary educator. I am planning to be

a primary teacher, I believe this would be a great fit for me. I absolutely adore younger kids

and helping their development. I have had many experiences with bonding with young kids

from babysitting to being a teacher helper at my dance studio for 3 year olds. I also love

learning about their development as I had in AP psychology. Currectly, I am completing the

college process as I am applying to OSU, Miami, Purdue University, Case Western,

Northwestern, and University of Toronto. All of which will fulfill my degree requirements

to become a teacher. After that I plan to fullfill all other education requirements by

completing an internship in an elementary school classroom, taking a state's licensing

exam, applying for a license through whichever state board of education, and finally apply

for positions and continue to keep up with state licensure if it is a requirement.

With all of this outline, the hope is it’s clear why primary education is a great option to

fullfill my future goals. As mentioned before, all of my skills and interests are congruent with
which is needed to be a successful teacher. My personality with all my traits fit along with a

great educator as I have also shown my ability to learn. As for my next steps in my career path I

look forward to receiving a degree and filling out the rest of my education requirements.
