EGEE 203L DC METERS AND THE MEASUREMENT OF RESISTANCE

Abstract

In this Lab experiment the objective was to create and test different circuits created using

the computer program known as Multisim. We will also be using class notes to tabulate various

values obtain for current, resistance and voltage. This lab is also for us to learn and familiarized

our self’s making circuits and getting familiar with the material, Pre-lab and Lab report.

Introduction

The purpose of this experiment was to learn how to use lab equipment for use in the

making dc measurements, however due to COVID and been an online lab we will be using

Multisim to create our circuits and different calculations to find the resistance on various sets of

resistors. Multisim is and industry standard simulation and circuit software for analog, digital,

and power electronics in education and research. This software for the lab was self-thought

through various online tutorials. Also, a resistor is a passive component in a circuit which

provides resistance to the flow of current. There are many different types of resistors. These

resistors vary in their construction, power dissipation capacities, and tolerance to various

parameters

Lab Procedure

A) Using the resistors color code and formula below, calculate 3 sample resistors.

Formula:

Sample 1) Blue, red, violet and silver

R=62 x 10^7 Ω +/- 10%  .62 GΩ +/- 10%

Sample 2) Orange, red, violet and silver

R=32 x 10^7 Ω +/- 10%  .32 GΩ +/- 10%

Sample 3) Re, black, orange, gold.

R=20 x 10^3 Ω +/- 5%  20 kΩ +/- 5%

Conclusion

In this lab, it helped learn and review several theories and laws that are very

important to circuit analysis such as Kirchhoff’s laws and Ohm’s law. These laws helped

us figure out how circuits work such as determining how Voltmeters and Ammeters play

a major role in calculating current flow and voltage flow across a resistor. Finally, this

lab taught us basic fundamentals as to how to use the computer program known as

Multisim
