Direction: Answer the following questions correctly in the space provided.

1. What is the difference of soil and aggregates?

Soil is consisting of foreign materials like decomposed animals, content of dried

plants, minerals and etc. Usually soil is use for embankment as construction material while
the aggregates is also a construction material but is main purpose is to use for mixing in a
cement even in bitumen materials

2. What is the purpose of soil in the field of civil engineering?

For me the purpose of soil in the field is for the foundation from earthworks and use
for embankment in highway and use for the fill of the house

3. How does preparation of raw materials affect the quality of output specimen?

If we follow the ASTM and the DPWH standard, the quality of the specimen will
meet the recommend require data. But if we bypass or skip the standards it may
cause a unsuitable specimen that can be worse for the quality control.

4. In a nutshell, explain why curing is necessary in concrete specimen and what

are the relevance of this?

As for better result, curing of concrete is important if we bypass and skip all process
of curing it may cause a failed project. Just like if we have a wound, we need to cure
it by using our first aid kit and other medical material, it will prevent from
contamination while it will heal better. In curing of a concrete, we follow and use the
methods to make it a better specimen and prevent from the concrete defect.
