LESSON PLAN-THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PRESENT


PERFECT AND THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE

Today, I  have used the following lesson plan to explain the differences
between the present perfect tense and the simple past tense. I have  found it
both very effective and easy to prepare.Later I am going to post my
reflection about its application here..

Class size: 20 students

Age: 12-13

Level: Pre-intermediate

Skill: Writing and speaking.

Material: Handout, flash cards

Previous knowledge: The Simple past tense and the Present perfect tense

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will able to;

-recognize  past simple and past perfect sentences


-recognize the time expressions that go with the present perfect and simple
past tenses
-distinguishing and using the present perfect tense and the simple past
tense.
-find the mistakes and correct in the given sentences.

Stage 1) Warm-up activity (5 minutes) (  T----S, S----T)

        First teacher announces that they are going to learn something very
important.
        TheTeacher asks whether the students remember the simple past tense or
not.

Stage 2) Presantation ( 15 minutes) (Interaction: T ----S, S----T)

        Teacher writes various sentences in the simple past tense and present
prefect tense.
        She explains how to form negative, postive sentences and questions in
both tenses.
        Underlines verbs and time exspressions.

Stage 3) Practising ( 20 minutes) (  T----S, S-----S, S----T)

        Teacher shows flash cards to practice time expressions.


(Teacher shows a time expression, for instance, never and Sts decide
whether it goes with the present perfect or the simple past tense)
        This time teacher shows some sentences written in either the present
perfect or the simple past tense ( Bigger flash cardsJ).
        Then she asks which tense is used in the sentences:
Student : “Present perfect”  
then she asks “ How do you know that?”
Student :  because of JUST ,YET..etc.
Then the teacher asks the students change the sentence into The simple past
tense.

        Teacher distributes handout which includes three parts


        Teacher monitors the students as they are working on the task ( Pair work
and pair check
