1 Introduction
The RRU3971a is an outdoor remote radio unit. It is the radio frequency (RF)
part of a distributed base station and can be located near antennas. The
RRU3971a can modulate, demodulate, combine, and divide baseband and RF
signals. It also processes baseband and RF signal data. With the Software
Defined Radio (SDR) technology, the RRU3971 supports the triple-mode or
dual-mode operation of any two modes of GSM, UMTS, and LTE through
software configuration modification.
Adopting an innovative design, RRU3971a is able to work in 4 TX and 4 RX
mode and therefore supports higher output power and larger carrier capacity.
The software version of the RRU3971a is SRAN11.1, which is compatible
with the N-1 and N-2 versions of MBTS, MBSC, and OSS NEs. Therefore,
the RRU3971a can be used with products of SRAN9.0, SRAN10.1 and
SRAN11.1 versions. All these three versions include the RRU3971a software
components. The RRU3971a used in SRAN9.0, SRAN10.1 and SRAN11.1
has no impact on the KPI of products.
1. Appearance
Figure 1-1 shows the appearance of the RRU3971a.
2. Physical Ports
RRUs have a modular design. Its external ports are located in the cabling
cavity and at the bottom of the module.

NOTE
NOTE
VSWR indicators on RRUs providing one or more than two TX channels have two
types of status:
Steady off: No VSWR alarm is generated.
Steady on: VSWR alarms are generated on one or more ports.

2. RF Specifications
The following table lists radio frequency (RF) specifications of an RRU3971a.
NOTE:
ATBR in the Transmit and Receive Channels column indicates that this RF module has A transmit
channels and B receive channels.
CxD W in the Output Power column indicates that this RF module is configured with C transmit
channels and the maximum output power of each transmit channel is D W.
EF MSR indicates that E and F data is carried on the same transmit channel of an RF module.
EF non-MSR indicates that E and F data is carried on two different transmit channels of an RF module.
GSM receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 51.021, at the antenna connector on
condition that the channel rate reaches 13 kbit/s and the bit error rate (BER) is not higher than 2%.
LTE FDD receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, under a 5 MHz channel
bandwidth based on the FRC A1-3 in Annex A.1 (QPSK, R = 1/3, 25 RBs) standard.
NB-IoT receiver sensitivity is measured, as recommended in 3GPP TS 36.104, under a 200 KHz channel
bandwidth and a 15 KHz subcarrier spacing based on the FRC A14-1 in Annex A.14 (π/2 BPSK, R =
1/3, 1 RB) standard.

NOTE:
According to the installation scenario, traffic load, and carrier configuration, the output power of
some RRUs may temporarily decrease when they work within the range of 10°C higher than the
allowed highest temperature.
