The length of your report should not exceed 5,000 words. References, appendices
and tables are not included in this limit.

Please choose one of the following topics :

1. Conduct and report the results of an empirical investigation of capital

structure behavior by Malaysian companies. Your answer should include a
review of the literature on capital structure. It should also report the
conduct and results of a data collection and analysis exercise. Select four
companies from each of three different industries; collect relevant data on
capital structure and other relevant variables and conduct an appropriate
statistical analysis; collect other relevant information e.g. newspaper
comments and conduct an appropriate analysis. Synthesize your findings
to form a conclusion.

2. Conduct and report the results of an empirical investigation of the cost of

capital of Malaysian companies. Your answer should include a review of the
literature on the cost of capital. It should also report the conduct and results of a
data collection and analysis exercise. Select one company from each of three
different industries; collect relevant financial data and estimate the cost of capital
for each company (more than one estimation technique may be used for each
company). Synthesize your findings to form a conclusion.

3.Conduct and report the results of an empirical investigation of two corporate

acquisitions made by publicly listed Malaysian, Singaporean, or Hong Kong
companies of other public companies announced since 2007. Your report should
include a review of the literature on valuing capital assets in general and should
included your own analysis of the valuation of the acquired companies, the form of
consideration paid and the effects of each deal on the buyer’s and seller’s
shareholders (including, if applicable, differences in effects on controlling and
minority shareholders

Conduct and report the results of a survey of 10 Malaysian companies (five

corporates and five financial companies (investment banks or private equity firms))
regarding the method(s) they use to estimate the cost of equity. Your report should
include a review of the literature in this area and a critical analysis of the responses
of the companies you survey. This assignment should be coordinated with your
instructor to ensure no overlap among companies surveyed in the event more than
one student selects this assignment.please give feedback asap.
