Mintzberg identified ten roles that describe the variety of the manager’s work. He
grouped those ten roles into three clusters.
Interpersonal Roles
Figurehead
Leader
Liason
Informational Roles
Monitor
Disseminator
Spokesperson

Interpersonal Roles:
The managerial roles in this category involve providing information and ideas.
Figurehead – As a manager, Managers have to act as figureheads because of their formal
authority and symbolic position, representing their organisations.. You're expected to be a
source of inspiration. You have to attend ceremonies;greet the visitors ,etc.
Leader – As leader, managers have to bring together the needs of an organisation and
those of the individuals under their command. This is where you manage the performance
and responsibilities of everyone in the group and support appropriate staffing.
Liaison – The third interpersonal role, that of liaison, deals with the horizontal relationships
which work-activity studies have shown to be important for a manager. A manager has to
maintain a network of relationships outside the organisation.
Informational Roles :
Spokesperson – In this role, you're responsible for transmitting information about your
organization and its goals to the people outside it.Managers represent and speak for their
organization.
