SCHEDULE OF CLASSES

A. Content Standards
The learner recognizes that communicative competence requires understanding of speech context,
speech style, speech act and communicative strategy.
B. Performance Standards
The learner demonstrates effective use of communicative strategy in a variety of speech situations.
C. Learning Competencies/Objectives
• Identifies the types of speech act and distinguish them from one another; and
Responds appropriately and effectively to a speech act.
IV. PROCEDURES
(Note: Discussions may change course (deviate from the original plan) depending on students’ responses to
questions or prompts given by the teacher.)
A. Preliminary Activities

B. Review
Recall the previous lesson.
Ask follow up questions.
C. Motivation
When you say something to someone, does he or she always get the intended meaning of your utterance,
or does he or she sometimes misinterpret it?
What do you think is the reason(s) for the misinterpretation, if any?
D. Presentation
Say:
This morning we are going to discuss about the types of speech acts in communication. At the end of the
lesson, you are expected to:
a. Identifies the types of speech act and distinguish them from one another; and
b. Responds appropriately and effectively to a speech act.
E. Activity
DO:
Have the students read a dialogue.
F. Analysis
ASK:
What did the speaker first said?
What was his intention in saying that?
How did the receiver responded to him?
G. Abstraction
DO:
Discuss/ Present the different types of speech acts.
Discuss Searle’s Classification of Speech Acts.
H. Application/ Evaluation
Do:
Have the students differentiate the three types of speech acts.
I. ASSESSMENT
Create a sample scenario showing the three types of speech acts in communication.
Write your answer on a sheet of paper.
