● Discuss changing class format
(graded vs. pass/fail)
Creating a Classroom Environment
What does your ideal classroom look like?
● Grab a piece of paper and draw your dream classroom

● Make sure to include every single detail!

○ Sensory Room? Lights? Posters? Tissues? Other supplies?

Classroom Budgets
● 94% of public school teachers use their own money when shopping for supplies
and other materials for their classroom (Chokshi 2018).
○ An average of $479 per year
○ 7% reported spending more than $1,000

● How do you make sure that you are providing a comfortable classroom setting
with limited resources and money?
● Do you think it is possible to shrink the wealth gap between schools that are in
the same county? (ex: Carmel & Hamilton Heights, Kelley & SoE) If so, how?

How Can We See Our Students?
“-we are both the seer and the seen, and that
seeing ourselves seeing-being aware of the unity
embodied in our observations- is critical if we are
to avoid blindness and “profane vision”, the
reduction of the observed into objects for use”
(Ayers 60).

administrators who reported serious problems with student absenteeism, student tardiness, lack of family involvement, and low
expectations. (Indicator 5.6)
● In 2006, some 21 percent of American Indian/ Alaska Native children between the ages of 12 and 17 reported the use of alcohol
in the past month, compared to 11 percent of Black and 8 percent of Asian children who did so. (Indicator 5.7)
● A higher percentage of American Indians/ Alaska Natives, 16 and over, were unemployed in 2007 (12 percent) compared to the
percentages of Whites (4 percent), Hispanics (6 percent), and Asian/Pacific Islanders (3 percent). (Indicator 7.2)
● In 2006, the median annual earnings for 25– to 34–year–olds in the general population who were employed full–year, full–time
was $35,000. The median annual earnings for 25– to 34– year–old American Indians/Alaska Natives was $27,000. (Indicator
