Ever wondered what makes great leaders ‘great’. What sets them apart from mediocre leaders.
We all know that they tend to be charismatic, prudent and full of life. Here at Newton Consulting
India Pvt. Ltd., a Delhi based brand consulting agency, we sincerely believe that effective
leaders can be made by virtue of proper communication, mentorship and self-monitoring. Here
are some interesting things that we believe great leaders do differently and some qualities that
you too can cultivate to become a great leader…
1) THEY ARE GREAT ROLE-MODELS: Effective leaders display inspiring qualities and
act as a role model, whom others aspire to be. When a great leader says honesty is an
important quality at the workplace, they mean it and demonstrate honesty everyday.
3) THEY ARE TRANSPARENT: Mutual loyalty and trust between employer and employee
are the building blocks of organizational success. Employees want to work in an
environment that puts a high value on delivering truth. Most leaders consider being
transparent as a sign of weakness. Great leaders hold transparency with high regard as
it allows authentic relationships to grow. Being transparent also improves loyalty to the
organization and camaraderie at the workplace.
4) THEY ARE GREAT LISTENERS: Great leaders are active listeners. They give utmost
value to listen when employees voice out their opinions, ideas, empathise with them
thereby giving empowering feedback. By showing that they care, effective leaders are
able to enhance employer-employee relationships, which bolsters employee’s
productivity.
6) THEY TAKE THE BLAME WHEN THINGS GO WRONG: As Glasgow quotes-a good
leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share
of the credit. In a big organisation, It is unwise to think that all goes according to plan.
