Case Study: Carlo Recio

Executive Summary
This is a case study of Carlo Recio wherein his situation, he has difficulty in leading and
controlling his crew as a maintenance supervisor. He was good at leading his subordinates at first, but in
the long-run, the employees were lacking initiative in their work and have sensed resentment from them.
The objective of this study is to provide a further understanding of the condition of Carlo Recio and his
employee and come up with economical resolutions to maintain the good condition of their company.

In this study, researchers have proposed several alternative courses of actions and this includes
(a) appointing a meeting to disseminate information about the new strategy, (b) conducting a monthly
assessment with the crew, (c) giving an appropriate penalty to the inefficient employee, (d) keep the crew
motivated to sustain their productivity, and (e) assign various tasks on each crew equally. The researchers
have concluded this case study by applying the idea of a problem-solving algorithm and the common
grounds of understanding economics, the use of consequentialist. The proponents have found out that the
cause of the problem is lack of incentives to the crew because Carlo Recio has been giving oral
motivations to this subordinates since he became the maintenance supervisor, but has not provided
incentives to them to maintain the good quality of their work.

Time Context

supervisor. His subordinates acts indifferent when he pointed out one problem regarding to their attitude
while working.

Case Facts
Carlo Recio was introduced by his uncle and started working in the infant formula plant as a part
timer. He finished vocational school and became a full time worker from janitorial to maintenance.

1. He acquired various skills in addition to his specialized training and sustain a good relationship
with his co-worker.

supervision and respected him.
4. He sensed resentment from his crew whenever he tried to help them.
5. He is uncertain if he will get his crew’s support and cooperation in implementing new strategies
in the plant.

The Problem
Carlo has been part of the company eight years from now. He wass one of the maintenance crew.
The recent supervisor suffered from a heat stroke and Carlo was appointed to take his position since the
supervisort knew his capabilties and skills. Carlo became hesitant at first but then, he agreed to the
proposition afterwarrds. His management was already running smoothly since he just took note of how
the previous supervisor ran the company. The main problem occur when he scolded some of his crew
from horsing around the job. The crew was now reluctant to follow his orders because what happened.
Carlo suddenly realized that he needs to make important strategies that could be helpful for the plant. The
real challenge rely on how would Carlo be able to do that given his current relationship status among the
crew.

Objectives
This case study aims to develop and identify methods on how to implement strategies that will
encourage the crew to adapt and cooperate with the changes within six weeks. These are the following
objectives that this study aims:

 To list down and enumerate the significant strategies to be executed

Recommendation
This recommendation is based on the concept of problem-solving algorithm and consequentialist
where it analyzes to understand the consequences of proposed solutions. In this projected
recommendation, it answers who is making the bad decision, does the decision-maker have adequate
knowledge to come up with a good decision, and does he have incentives to make a good decision. All of
these questions are interrelated to each other and have ended up with suitable resolutions.

In the case between Carlo Recio and his subordinates, perhaps receiving motivation from Carlo
Recio is a common thing for the employee and does not bear any significant difference at all to them. It’s
time to change the strategy which Carlo Recio has thought about and it must include giving incentives to
make them feel more motivated and maintain their excellent work in the company. In addition, Carlo
Recio should also conduct a meeting about this new strategy. Every worker must be informed by the
implementation of additional incentives for them to work even harder. Further, presuming the doubt by
Carlo Recio in the financial assets of the company about giving supplementary incentives, he has to trust
his investment to his human resources or the output of his employee. If this still would not work, he may
opt to evaluate or have a monthly assessment to his crews and make further appropriate and necessary
actions once evaluated.

Conclusion
As we evaluate and analyze the Carlo Recio's case, he should establish authority as a supervisor
by regaining the confidence of the staffs he has even if he does not have much experience with it yet there
are many steps can improve as he enters the workforce. Therefore, the crew must also show commitment
to the company and to their respective jobs. Each staffmust show respect to the to the one who is in
authority, supervisor. In a nutshell, like every skill worth having, professionalism takes plenty of practice
to perfect it encompasses the way an employee interacts with his people, customers and with other people
since this shows that you’re not only concerned about your career, you are also respect your peers and it
will also accelerate your progress toward your organization’s goals and with that this can go a long way
in the future. Thus, Carlo should not just be focus on what are the task that needs to be done but he must
also be mindful of his relationship among his crew to establish a conducive and productive environment.
