1. Today’s pace creates more complexities than it solves

2. People who make decisions based on emotion and justify those decisions with logic afterwards are poor decision
makers.
3. Even though young people often receive the advice to “follow your dreams,” more emphasis should be placed on
picking worthy goals.
4. Some people believe that teaching morality should be the foundation of education. Others believe that teaching a
foundation of logical reasoning would do more to produce a moral society.
5. Mass media and the internet have caused people’s attention spans to get shorter. However, the overall effect has
been positive: while people are less able to focus on one thing, they more than make up for it with an enhanced
ability to sort through large quantities of information and find what’s important.
6. Governments should invest as much in the arts as they do in the military.

“The rise of internet, when seen under the eyes of strict investigation may or may not look like alluring.”

Ans:
Once upon a time, there were no chances to connect or communicate with a man sitting in the other parts
of the world. Through the modern communication, the impossibility becomes possible. If seen more accurately
internet actually made it possible. It flourished the inevitable opportunity for sharing views and feelings. No
country is now isolated or unknown. Through the internet, a revolution called "Social Media" or "Social
Websites" has increased the chances of getting friends across the world. People are no longer required big
Encyclopedia or big books like that to search for any desired information instead they can search in the vast
ocean of the internet within a few clicks. Distance learning opened a wonderful opportunity for the people who
love not to be confined within the given discipline or study. They can go for whatever they want and they love
and the internet made it possible.

In a greater sense, today we have the abilities for internet that even the greatest minds in the history
could ever be imagined. One of my favorite scientists Dr. Michio Kaku once said that at the end of the 21st
century we may have the ability or power that will be similar to the power of the gods written in the books and
internet will have a big part to play in that.

However, there is a proverb goes “There is nothing in this world for unmixed blessings". The Internet is
not out of it. The internet has so many to offer that some are good and some are not good at all. on the other
hand, this vastness also increased the chances of being fooled, robbed and distracted. Illegal trades and others
have also increased due to this. There have been many reporting that gave certain threats.

But if we can avoid those contents that are harmful or not good for or stop them, our civilization will be
greatly benefited by this vast ocean of opportunity, we call it the internet.
Argument task
1. An international development organization, in response to a vitamin A deficiency among people in the
impoverished nation of Tagus, has engineered a new breed of millet high in vitamin A. While seeds for this new
type of millet cost more, farmers will be paid subsidies for farming the new variety of millet. Since millet is
already a staple food in Tagus, people will readily adopt the new variety. To combat vitamin A deficiency, the
government of Tagus should do everything it can to promote this new type of millet.

2. The following appeared in a letter from the faculty committee to the president of Seatown University:

A study conducted at nearby Oceania University showed that faculty retention is higher when professors are
offered free tuition at the university for their own college-aged children. Therefore, Seatown should institute a
free-tuition policy for its professors for the purpose of enhancing morale among the faculty and luring new
professors.

3. A pet food company recalled 4 million pounds of pet food in response to complaints that pets that had consumed
the food experienced vomiting, lethargy, and other signs of illness. After the recall, the pet food company tested
samples from the recalled food and determined that all chemicals found in the food were chemicals that are
approved for use in pet food. Thus, the recalled food was not responsible for these symptoms, and the company
should not devote further resources to the investigation.

4. Pirouettes Ballet School is the clear choice for any child. Of all the dance schools in Elmtown, Pirouettes has the
most intensive program, and our teachers have danced in the most prestigious ballet companies all over the world.
Many of our students have gone on to become professional dancers with top dance companies.

5. A recent study indicates that children living in the Himalayan mountain region in Nepal have lower levels of tooth
decay than children living in suburban areas in the United States, despite the fact that people in the Himalayan
mountain region in Nepal receive little to no professional dental care, while people in suburban areas in the
United States see a dentist an average of 1.25 times per year. Thus, regular dental care is not helpful in preventing
tooth decay.

6. The following is a letter from the parent of a private school student to the principal of that school:

Last year, Kensington Academy turned over management of its cafeteria to a private vendor, Swift Nutrition. This
company serves low-fat, low-calorie meals that students do not find enjoyable – my son and several of his friends
came home yesterday complaining about the lunch options. While the intent of hiring Swift may have been to
cause students to eat healthier foods, the plan is just going to cause students to bring their own, less healthy
lunches instead of eating cafeteria food. If Swift is not replaced with another vendor, there will be serious health
consequences for Kensington students.
“Pirouettes Ballet School is the clear choice for any child. Of all the dance schools in Elmtown,
Pirouettes has the most intensive program, and our teachers have danced in the most prestigious ballet
companies all over the world. Many of our students have gone on to become professional dancers with

Ans:
The passage gives us some specific information or in the greater sense, praises about the
Pirouettes Ballet School. Those may be true but there are some things that are required to be
reconsidered or expressed that will increase the credibility of the claims stated in the passage.

First of all, they claimed that the school has the most intensive program in the Elmtown that
made it a clear choice for any child but the question is how much intensive it is? There is no other ideas
are provided to bolster this claim. If the intensive program was given briefly with the other school's
program that will be more interesting and we can justify that claim.

Secondly, they have mentioned that their teachers have danced in the most prestigious ballet
companies all over the world which is good but still, we have some lack of information about the
teachers especially their teaching experiences or methods of their teaching. They may be good dances
but do it justify that they will be good at teaching also?

Thirdly they have stated that many of their students have gone on to become professional
dancers with top dance companies which is good but what happened to the rest of the students who did
not go to the reputed companies.

However, this is just the claims of the school no review from any student or parent is not
provided to endorse the claims by the school. The school has not included an example of a student at
their school who has done exceptionally well and now famous all over the town.
