Hughesville, Maryland
Hughesville has experienced a variety of changes that include
completion of the northeastern bypass, current construction of the
SMECO facility and several planned projects. A positive dialogue has
been ongoing between various groups that include the Hughesville
Hughesville
Business and Civic Alliance (HBCA), Hughesville Community members
Business and
and various County and State agencies including the Charles County Civic Alliance
Department of Planning and Growth Management. (HBCA)
The purpose of this document is to open the dialogue up to the larger
community and share some ideas and explore opportunities in order to
further the vision for Hughesville Village.

The Hughesville Village Revitalization Plan adopted as part of the Charles
County Comprehensive Plan provides a solid foundation from which to
explore the Village vision. The Hughesville Business and Civic Alliance
(HBCA) recently prepared a ten point Priority Project List and are
working with the County to refine these items in an effort to move the
Revitalization Plan forward.

This document includes various illustrations in order to solicit input to

better define a direction and realization for a revitalized Hughesville
Village.

wayfinding direction, and
offer scale and visual
interest along the main
street.
This illustration shows how
a sign can reflect on the
past making reference to
the historic bank building
by incorporating material,
color and decoration. We
are also exploring an

setting for a proposed multi use assembly
space.

A lively and and well proportioned

exterior building façade can create a
backdrop to the sidewalk amentities
creating a lively streetscape experience.

The proposed adaptive re-use of the
