The Role of IT in Business Process Reengineering

In today’s fast-paced world and with the dramatic increase of our world

population for the past few decades it is impossible for the government and

businesses to supply the necessities of man without the help of technology.

Humans as we are, it is our nature to have unappeasable and innumerous

needs and wants that needs to be fulfilled. From our physiological needs which

includes food, water, clothing and shelter, our office needs, school-related

things, down to our unnecessary wants like jewelries, gadgets, cars, and other

luxuries in life and everything that we can think of, producers need the help of

technology to respond and supply these things to the consumers immediately

without sacrificing the quality of the product. Today, producer’s vital aim for

conducting business is not only all about profit anymore but customer

satisfaction. With the large scale of consumers, conducting business’

operations manually could lead to inefficiency. This is where IT comes in; IT

helps business operations became faster, convenient and efficient.

IT’s role is not just relevant to business industries because as a part of

the Academe, I have witnessed the relevance and the vital role of IT in our

operations especially with the data storage and retrieval; instead of hiring

additional manpower for administrative works and using a lot of paper,

envelopes and folders to keep students information, with the help of technology

the task became more convenient and paperless. It is also easier to store data

and retrieve it without spending too much time looking for the folder of the

students. In terms of our instructions, instead of spending too much time

finding a book for our reference, we have the internet for readily available

information which makes our lesson preparation quick and less hassle. In

terms of our instructional materials, we don’t have to spend money for our
visual aids and materials because we have the power point and video

presentations which make the student’s learning experience significant and

interesting. This is just the few from the hundred ways of how IT makes every

work efficient not just in the business industries but also in the academe.

I have witnessed the changes that technology has brought to our world

and there is nothing more fascinating about it. The way of life 30 years ago was

way too far different from of ours today. It has been a great privilege to witness

world from manual to high-technology and how our lives dramatically change

since the technology takes over.
