1E Phrasal verbs

A Rearrange the words to make sentences with phrasal verbs. There is one extra word in each sentence that you do not need.

B Rewrite each sentence using a phrasal verb below. The second sentence should have the same meaning as the first.

Aims  To review and practise using phrasal verbs. To give


students the opportunity to apply them to their own lives.
Time  15 minutes
Materials  1 handout for each student
• Give each student a copy of the handout and ask them to
complete task A. Circulate and monitor, ensuring that students
are using phrasal verbs and identifying the extra word in each
sentence.
Answer Key
a He finds it difficult to get on with his neighbours.
b She never checks what her children are up to until one of them
gets hurt.
c When we go out to eat, we always end up going to the same
restaurant.
d First you need to make notes and then you write them up
neatly.
e He tried to keep up with the runners at the front but they were
too fast.
f She always looked down on me because I wasn’t very
fashionable.
g Their holiday plans fell through at the last minute.
h James has always looked up to his grandfather as a role model.
• Give each student a handout and tell them to complete task B.
