WASHINGTON: The US State Department has barred a
journalist from the press pool for Secretary of State
Mike Pompeo’s upcoming foreign trip, without pro-
viding a reason for the removal. In a statement on
Monday, the Washington-based National Public Radio
(NPR) confirmed the move. Monday’s development
comes days after a tense NPR interview with Pompeo
where he was repeatedly questioned about Ukraine

charged with bribery and

Karachi, January 28
In an alleged case of honour
killing in Pakistan, six mem-
bers of a family, including two
women and a child, were
gunned down in their sleep in
Sindh province, the police
said on Tuesday.
They said the father and rel-
atives of a girl, Nasreen Bro-
hi, belonging to the Brohi
tribe, entered the house of
Murtaza Rind late on Mon-
day night and opened fire on
the sleeping family, killing
him and five others.
Rind’s wife Nasreen Brohi,
who had contracted a free will
marriage, managed to escape
the massacre in the dark,
they said. Those killed
included Rind’s two broth-
ers, two sisters and a child.
“She (Nasreen) is now in
police protection and the
search is on for her father
Rafiq Brohi and his brothers
who are suspected to have
carried out the killings in the
name of honour,” the police
said. Nasreen told the media
that she had eloped with
Rind in January 2018.
She returned home after
her husband paid Rs 1.2 mil-
lion to her father as fine. Her
family then sold her off to the

China virus death toll jumps to 106

China has reported 24 more
deaths from coronavirus epi-
demic, taking the number of
fatalities to 106 as the con-
firmed cases of pneumonia
caused by the outbreak stand
at 4,515, the health authori-
ties announced on Tuesday.
Barring Tibet, all Chinese
provinces have reported the
virus cases, posing a major
challenge for the health
authorities to contain it.
Overseas confirmed cases
have been reported in Thai-
land (7), Japan (3), South
Korea (3), the United States
(3), Vietnam (2), Singapore
(4), Malaysia (3), Nepal (1),
France (3), Australia (4) and
Sri Lanka (1).
The death toll from a coron-
avirus outbreak in China has
soared to 106 while nearly
1,300 new cases have been
confirmed, the authorities
said on Tuesday.
The provincial authorities
at the virus epicentre of
Hubei province, of which
Wuhan city is the capital,
said 24 more people had
died from the virus with
1,291 more infections.
By the end of Monday, a
total of 4,515 cumulative con-
firmed cases of the new pneu-
monia had been reported in
Hubei, while 2,567 patients
are hospitalised, with 563 in
severe conditions and 127 in
critical conditions, the Hubei
Provincial Health Commis-
diately file indictment

Under Israeli law,
Netanyahu does not have to
resign upon indictment.
He only has to resign if he
