FLAT SLAB DESIGN IN SAFE

GEOMETRY AND LOADING

1.Export floor geometry from Etabs to SAFE.
2.Check the Material Definitions and Property definition in SAFE.
3.Assign the gravity area loads corresponding to the ETABS model.
4.Assign Property Modifiers in the SAFE model same as the ETABS model.
5.Compare the load pattern and load cases in ETABS and SAFE.
6.Import the Load Combinations to SAFE model (interactive database edit may be
used).
7.Design Column strips and Middle strips were drawn in X and Y direction (Design
strips can be edited in a exported dxf file) .

PREANALYSIS CHECKS
8.Compare the diffierance in total reaction due to the gravity load in SAFE and
ETABS by creating substitute models
9.Assign the design parameters in the safe model
10.Assign Mesh sizing options in SAFE model.

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

11.Run the Analaysis and Design in SAFE for the Gravity loads.
12.Strip Based design results(Ast required) for each component of Flat slab
obtained.
13.Axial force contours envelope (lateral loads and temperature) from ETABS is used
to arrive at steel requirement for axial tension.
14.Combined Steel requrirement(Gravity and Axial) is used to arrive the
reinforcement pattern.
15.Punching shear design results are studied in SAFE and reinforcement is provided
for the same wherever the limiting ratio exceeds 1.
16.Critical locations are checked for one way shear.
17.Duplicate models are checked for any incresed steel requrement for construction
case(with pour strip opening) and line loads as a replacement for partition area
loads.

POST DESIGN CHECKS

18.Deflections (Short and Long Term ) are checked to be within limit as per the
codal standards.

DRAWING PREPARATION
19.Standard drawings are prepared for typical Middle Strips, Drop and Column Strips
as per the model geometry with appropriate Ids.
20.Element type Id and Rebar Id are marked in the plan layout of the floor
21.Extra detail is prepared for all location which doesnt confirm to the typical
case.
