ANWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:-
FIND OUT:-
1.      Check in your map. Which state would one pass through while travelling from
Mumbai to Kashmir?
Ans: The states that one pass through while travelling from Mumbai to Kashmir are:-
1.      Maharashtra
2.      Gujarat
3.      Rajasthan
4.      Punjab
5.      Haryana
6.      Himachal Pradesh
7.      Jammu and Kashmir
2.      Gaurav Jani passed through several states while going from Mumbai to Delhi. Find
the capital cities of these states. Was there any other big town on his way?
Ans: The states and capitals that Gaurav Jani passes through are as follow:-
1.      Maharashtra – Mumbai
2.      Gujarat           -- Gandhi Nagar
3.      Haryana          -- Chandigarh
The big towns that one passes through are Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Jaipur,
Ajmer etc.
Q3.        Is Manali a plain or a hilly area? In which state is it?
             Ans: Manali is a hilly area and it is in Himachal Pradesh.
Q4. Have you ever stayed in a ten? Where? What was it like?
             Ans: yes I stayed in tent in the NCC camp. It was in Shimla. It was really
adventurous and exciting experience.
Q5. Imagine that you were to stay alone in a small tent for two days and could take
with you only 10 things. Make a list of those 10 things.
             Ans: if I would stay alone in a small tent I would take these 10 things with me:-
1.      Clothes
2.      Sweater

Q6. What are the different type of houses that you have seen? Tell your friends about
it.
            Ans: I have seen different type of houses in different areas:
1.      Wooden houses in hilly area
2.      Cement brick and glass and houses in cities
3.      Houses with sloping roofs in hilly areas
4.      Boat houses in lakes
5.      Mud and straw houses in rural and desert areas.
These houses are made according to the climate of the area.
Q7. During winter, Tashi and his family live on ground oor. Why would they be doing
so?
           Ans: There is no window on the ground, so the ground oor is protected from
the cold winds, Tashi and his family live on the ground oor to protect themselves
from the icy cold winds of the winter season. 
Q8. What is your house like? What all is the roof used for?
Ans: The roof of our house is at. It is used for drying clothes, playing, ying kites,
drying vegetables, spices and wheat and for sun bathing.
Q9. At what height is the place where you live?
Ans: I live in Ferozepur it is at the height of nearly 200 meters from the sea level.
Q10. Why did Gaurav Jani say - ‘’ this place is so high that it is di cult to breathe
normally”?
Ans: The air becomes thin when we go up. The oxygen in the air becomes less. So it
is di cult to breathe normally.
Q11. Have you ever been to a hilly place?
Ans: Yes, I have gone to Kullu.
Q12. At what height was it? Did you have any di culty in breathing there?
Ans: Kullu is about 2000 meters from the sea level. Yes we had di culty in breathing
there.
Q13. Which is the highest place you have been to?
Ans: The highest place I have been to is Rohtang pass. It is about 4000 meters from
the sea level.
Q14. For the Changpas their animals are a very important part of their life. Is any
animal part of your life? For example, a pet, or as helpers in farming. List ve ways in
which different animals are a part of your life?
Ans: I have a pet dog and he is very useful to us.

1.      DOG: Dogs protects our house.

2.      COWS: Cows give us milk.
3.      BUFFALO: It also gives us milk.
4.      BULLOCK: Bullocks are used for farming.
5.      HORSE: Horse pulls our carts and carry loads.

Q15. You read that in Changthang the temperature drops below 00C. Look at
newspaper or TV to nd cities in India or abroad where the temperature drops below
00C. In which months do you expect to see that?
Ans: Shri Nagar, Ladakh, Shimla are the places in India and Minnesota, Etowah are outside
India.
Q16. The houses in different part of Jammu and Kashmir are made to suit the
climate and the needs of the people there. Are there different type of houses in the
place where you live? If yes think about the reasons.
Ans: Yes, in our area, there are houses made of cement, bricks, glass and steel.
These houses can withstand in Natural Calamities such as heavy rain, earthquake,
storms etc.
Many houses are made of mud, bamboo, tin, tarpaulin and grass.
These houses are of poor people.
Q17. Think of your house, is there something special in it like sloping roof as it rains a
lot or a courtyard where you can sleep when it is hot or where things are kept in the
sun?
Ans: Our house has a at roof but it has a courtyard. We can sleep and dry things on
roof and in the courtyard.
Q18. What are material used for making your house? It is mud, brick, stone, wood
cement?
And: The material used for our house is Cement, brick, glass, steel etc.
Q19. Can you guess the similarities and differences in the life of Bakarwals people
and life of Changpas?
Ans: Similarities:
1.      Both the Bakarwals and Changpas live in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir.
2.      Both the tribes keep on moving from one place to other.
3.      Both of them depend on the animals like sheep, goat and yak for their living.
4.      Both of them sell wool obtained from their animals.
Differences:-
BAKARWALS CHANGPAS
1.        Bakarwals graze any type of goat Changpas graze only special type
and sheep at lower altitude. of goats and sheep at very high
and cold places or on higher
altitude.
2.        They live in the houses made of They live in tents made of yak hair

Q20. Describe how these shelters suit the needs of the people who live there.
Ans: Different type of houses in Jammu and Kashmir ful l the need of the people in
the following ways:-
1.      Houseboat and donga are the complete houses with every facility in boats.

2.      The houses made of stone, wood and mud protect the people from cold weather.
3.      Tent houses (Rabo) of Changpa tribe provide them warmth and help the tribe move
easily from one place to another.
Q21. How these houses different from the houses you live in?
Ans: Our houses are made from bricks, cement, glass and steel.
These houses are xes so they are immoveable.
They are permanent and strong.
They can withstand natural calamities like earthquakes. Storms, heavy rainfall etc.
