     1. Kalidasa:
i.  Mahakavi Kalidasa was a Sanskrit poet and a dramatist during Gupta
  dynasty.
ii.  He was a court poet of Chandragupta II.
iii.  His famous works are Raghuvamsa, Kumarasambhava, and Meghaduta
etc.
iv.  His play Abhijana Shakuntalam is famous and abroad.
v.  His works has been translated into many Indian and foreign languages.
2. Tansen:
i. Tansen was a great singer and musician during Akbar’s
period.
ii. He was among the nine gems of Akbar’s court.
iii. His music was a mixture of Indian and Persian style.
iv. He also developed his own style.
v. He composed musical tunes or ragas like Raga Malhar and
Raga Deepak.
3. Premchand:
i. Munshi Premchand was a great writer.
ii. He is regarded as the Shakespeare of India.
iii. His actual name was Dhanpat Rai.
iv. Premchand was his pen name.

      Ans:
i. Charaka was a physician.
ii. We wrote Charaka Samhita, in which he described the
process of digestion.
iii. He also wrote about diseases, their symptoms and diagnosis.
iv. He wrote about the responsibilities of a doctor.
v. He also wrote about the role of medicinal plants.
2. What do you know about Sushruta?
Ans:
i. Sushruta was a surgeon.
ii. He is called the Father of Plastic Surgery.
iii. He could remove cataracts by operating upon eyes.
iv. He had knowledge about medicinal plants.
v. He wrote a book Sushruta Samhita.

3. What was common between Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Rabindranath
Tagore? What did they do to improve the Indian Society?
Ans:
i. Both were social reformers.
ii. Both emphasized on education.
iii. Both opened educational institutions.
iv. Rabindranath Tagore opened school named Shantiniketan,
which is called Vishva Bharti University.
v. Sir Syed Ahmed Khan opened school at Moradabad in 1859
and in 1875 he opened a college called the Mohammedan
Anglo-Oriental University.

Q. Medicine plants have been a part of our lives from ancient times.
Name the ve medicinal plants and write about their parts that are used
to heal and cure.
Ans: The name of ve medicinal plants are as follow:
1. Tulsi: We use its leaves to cure fever, cold and cough.
2. Mint: We use its leaves to cure many problems related to digestion and
stomach.
3 Neem: its leaves are used to purify blood We also use its stem to clean

E. Value Corner:
Q. Working hard brings success. Narrate an incident when you worked
hard and you were successful.
Ans: Really when we work hard we surely get success.
Here is an incident of my life.
I was in class 4.
I used  to  spend all my day in playing and enjoying.
I never cared about my books and studies.
I used to miss my school.
In my half yearly exams my results were very bad.
I could not even pass the examination.
The teacher called me and advised me to work hard.
She told me if I did not work hard I had to repeat my class again.
That day I felt very bad.
I decided to work very hard and get good marks.
I made my time table.
I spent my maximum time in studying.
I did writing practice also.
And my hard work really proved fruitful.
When my nal result declared, I got 85% marks.
That day I understood the value of hard work.
