SPOT THE LIE
• In your group, one by one, tell the others two relatively interesting things
about you that are true, and one lie

• *Don’t make the lie too far-fetched, but don’t make it too boring either

• The rest of the group then have to figure out the lie, by asking as many
questions as possible
ONE-SHOT PORTRAIT
• With the pen and paper assigned to you, look at the person beside you and
draw their portrait…

…without taking your pen off the paper.

YOUR COURSE
• You are undertaking either:

• UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production

• Or

• UAL Level 3 Diploma in Music Performance and Production

THE UNITS
• Both courses are broken down into 8
units.
• You are awarded either a Pass or Fail
grade for units 1 – 7.
• You will be awarded a Pass, Merit or
Distinction grade for unit 8, and this is
the overall grade for this qualification.
• Successful completion of the Level 2
course allows you to undertake the
Level 3 Diploma.
• Successful completion of the Level 3
course allows you to undertake the
Level 3 Extended Diploma in year 2.
The units are spread across 5 consecutive projects. For each
project you will have access to an assignment (or project)
brief.
The assignment briefs will say how long you have for the whole project, and include an
overview of the tasks required. It will ask for what evidence must be produced.
Included will be assessment information.
Your assignment briefs are hosted on line.
They will be as PDFs uploaded to a tumblr
site.

The tumblr site will also host other important

information such as powerpoints from lectures
and additional unit notes.

There are also links to sites you will need to use

such as eTracker.
You will each be given a Wix
website template to upload and
present your work for each
project.

The template will have suggested

layout and pages, and may also
have more information relating to
the requirements of the units.

Wix allows you to design your own

website, adding various media
alongside written work.
On the Wix site you are able
to add videos, either your
own uploaded files or
embedded movies from
places such as YouTube.

Similarly, you can uploaded

your music or other audio
files.

You can also embed your

Soundcloud music if its
appropriate to the task.
You will be mostly working on
Logic Pro X in the studios.

Alongside your audio

recordings we expect
pictorial evidence of your
work in the form of
screenshots.
Your finished Wix site should have a unique design, and
have a combination of audio recordings, written
evidence, and technical screen shots.

Videos should also be considered, especially for evidence

of research.
Your Wix site can be accessed by your tutor,
who may ask you to transfer them permissions
of a duplicate version. This ensures that the
work we receive is not later modified.

Your work is assessed and feedback is

generated. Although units 1 to 7 are only
graded to pass, the feedback will include an
indicative grade. ‘Satisfactory’ equates to
‘Pass’, ‘Good’ equates to ‘Merit’, and
‘Excellent’ equates to ‘Distinction’.
THE WORKING WEEK
• Music courses have a designated day each week without any
sessions ,and for Music Technology Level 2 and year one Level 3
it is Monday.
• If we cannot accommodate all of you at set times each day,
we will ensure you are fully aware of a rota for studio use.
• Please understand we do not operate a fixed school-style
timetable. Session times may change each week.
A rota like this one
might be found on
the Tumblr site with a
full explanation of
codes/colours.
REMOTE WORKING
Regular zoom communication may
become commonplace in our working
week.

We are investigating new methods of

music making if we are unable to offer
access to college software.
ENGLISH AND MATHS
• If you are under 19, it is a nationwide rule that these subjects must be
continued to be studied until learners gain grade 4.
• 2 hours of lessons a week per subject – Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• No extra costs for lessons or exams but full attendance is required.
• Your music technology rota will take into account your English or maths
sessions to avoid conflict.
• Attendance cannot drop below 90%.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
• What 5 things do you want to personally achieve while you’re here?

• Discuss this within your group

PAPER TOWERS
• In your group you will be given 12 sheets of paper. The group with the tallest
tower wins.

• Keeping social-distancing rules, how are you going to build the tower?

• You have 15 minutes as soon as Rich scratches his head…

WAYS WE CAN MINIMISE COVID RISK
• We encourage you to walk, cycle or drive yourself to college. If you take public
transport, allow for extra time. If you intend to use the College bus, we recommend
you wear a face covering when travelling, unless you are exempt. When entering
and exiting the site at the turnstiles, please use the hand sanitisers routinely.
• There is no requirement to wear face coverings/visors in communal areas at the
college, however if you wish to wear them in corridors and communal areas then
you can do so if you choose. Face coverings are not required in lessons or
workshops.
• You are designated to be within ‘bubbles’ to keep numbers of learners mixing with
one another to a minimum. You will be expected to follow Government and college
guidelines to reduce close contact with other learners in other ‘bubbles’ and will be
required to keep social distancing rules in place with everyone. In particular with
anyone outside of your course and area ‘bubble’; this includes partners, close
friends, and staff whilst on site.
WAYS WE CAN MINIMISE COVID RISK
• Only go to rooms where you have a session, i.e. the music block. Please
keep to that area unless you must go to the toilets, LTC, or canteen. When
you have a break, return in the most direct route to the music block. Do not
wander to other parts of the campus.
• Learners from different ‘bubbles’ may come together for English and maths
lessons and will be required to sit with members from the same course where
possible.
• It is a learner’s responsibility to maintain social distancing at all times, and
follow the signage around the campus. Look for the one-way systems
around campuses and signage on walls to help.
• Keep to the left when in a corridor to allow as much room as possible on
two-way routes.
WAYS WE CAN MINIMISE COVID RISK
• Come prepared with your own sanitiser to use throughout the day. You can
also use the sanitiser stations around the campus. Please do not fill their own
sanitiser bottles with college supplies as there will not be enough for others.
• Use of the lifts will be limited to those individuals who have accessibility issues
and not for the general college population. Lift use will be limited to one
person at a time unless support is required.
• You are to clean your work station at the start or end of each session, so that
the next users of the room have a clean area in which to work. Only use
sprays on the cloths provided in the room and then wipe on to keyboards.
To protect keyboard and IT equipment do not spray directly on to a
machine.
WAYS WE CAN MINIMISE COVID RISK
• To help further reduce the risk of transmission, dispose of tissues in a plastic
bag when in a learning area. Dispose of this in the bin within the sealed bag.
Sanitise your hands after use of tissue.
• Break times and visits to the canteen will require you to follow one-way
systems, accept there is reduced or removed seating, and use additional
sanitising/cleaning when required. You must clear away your own rubbish
from tables so that others do not have to touch it.
• If you are sat at a picnic bench with people, we suggest you sit sideways on
to one another and not face each other directly to reduce the risk of
transmission.
• We might have designated eating rooms within the department but
corridors to be kept clear at all times.
WAYS WE CAN MINIMISE COVID RISK
• Only use your own ID Badge to enter and exit the site; allowing someone to
use your badge is a disciplinary matter. If you forget you badge, you must
go to reception to get a temporary replacement.
• Trips and visits will be subject to risk assessment and government guidelines.
• All learners are required to follow Government/College guidelines, which
means rules on site may change quickly. Once these changes are
communicated from staff to you, it will be up to you to adjust you behaviour
to follow the newly set rules.
COVID Q AND A
• What do I do if I start to feel unwell in College with Covid-like symptoms?

Inform your teacher – they will take you to a dedicated area until you can be
collected. You should book a test through 111. Once you have your result
you must phone college and inform your tutor of the result. You must stay at
home for the self-isolation period if you have Covid-19 symptoms or until a test
returns negative.
COVID Q AND A
• What happens if someone in my class gets Covid-19?

If a learner contracts Covid-19, the learner must stay at home and contact the
college to give clear details and then go into isolation in accordance with
current Government guidelines. We will inform all the learners in their bubble
group that they too must isolate as per the government guidelines and should
also book a test for themselves.

Unless too sick to do so, learners will be required to study remotely and take
responsibility for liaising with the college about the work needed for their
vocational and English and/or maths if this is part of their educational
programme.
COVID Q AND A
• Who do I contact if I suspect I, or someone in my household is sick?

You first contact 111 as per the Government guidelines and arrange for tests.
You will then need to contact your college curriculum administrator who will
log the details regarding your absence. You will need to state what date you
are self-isolating from and to, so that we can record it on your attendance.
You will need to complete an online form to give us clear details of your
isolation. The details will be given to you in the phone call to the college. If a
member of your household contracts Covid-19, the learner must stay at home
and contact the college to give clear details and then go into isolation in
accordance with current Government guidelines.
COVID Q AND A
• How long do I have to self-isolate?

The rules on this may change according to the Government so we will expect
you to follow those national rules at the time of any self-isolation.
COVID Q AND A
• Can I wear a face covering?

In line with current UK Government Guidance, there is no requirement to wear

face coverings/visors in communal areas at the College however if learners
wish to wear them in corridors and communal areas then they can do so if
they choose. Face coverings are not required in lessons or workshops.
COVID Q AND A
• Can I mix with my friends from other courses during the day on site?

You can see your friends outside of the main building (with social distancing),
but you cannot go into a specific curriculum area building together as you will
need to stay in your own bubble space when inside and not cross-
contaminate into someone else’s safe bubble area.
COVID Q AND A
• Can I go abroad for a holiday?

We encourage that no learner takes a holiday during term time regardless of

the Covid-19 situation as this affects attendance and a learner’s ability to
remain on top of their studies, and could impact on their progression if their
attendance is below our 90% expectation by the end of the year.

If you choose to go abroad during a college holiday period but then have to
self- isolate upon your return, again affecting your attendance, then we would
expect 100% engagement remotely and all studies kept up to date, but
again, this lower attendance could affect your progression opportunity at the
end of the year.
