SYSTEM CALCULATION SHEET

For molding cooling process the common design conditiones are 44°F supply water
temperature. The temperature change in the fluid for either the condenser pr the
evaporator can be described using the following formula:

Q WxCx
Where :

Q= Quantity of heat exchanged (Btu/hr).

W= Flow rate of fluid (Btu/hr).

C= Specific Heat of Fluid (Btu/lb*°F).

DT= Temperature change of fluid (°F).

As the fluid is water, the formula takes the more common form of:

Load(Btu/hr)= Flow(US gpm) x (°Fin - °Fout) x 500

Or

Load(Ton)= Flow(US gpm) x (°Fin - °Fout) / 24

The system will be constituted by 2 (two) Chillers; 50 Tons Each, obtaining 100 Ton
total system.

100 Ton= Flow(US gpm) x (54°F - 44°F) / 24 then:

Flow(US gpm)= 100Ton / (10°F / 24)

Flow(US gpm)=100Ton / (0.42)

Flow(US gpm)= 238 GPM TOTAL WATER SYSTEM FLOW

Then the total system Volume will be calculated by the next Points:

a) Total chiller Cooling Evaporation Coil water capacity (Data by Manufacturer).

b) Total Piping Volume.

c) Machine Water supply Requirements.

a) Total chiller Cooling Evaporation Coil water capacity (Data by Manufacturer).

VOLUME ON CHILLERS: 4.6 USGal X 2 Chiller: 9.2 USGal

b) Total Piping Volume.

c) Machine Water supply Requirements.

By name plate the machines will require 15 gal.

TOTAL SYSTEM VOLUME: (9.2+839+15)US Gal = 863.2 US Gal.

Using Psychrometrics Chart can calculate the amount of water will be Evaporate on
process inside Heat Interchanger:
The above psyhrometric chart shows Chiller process at Tijuana B.C. Zone conditions,
using the ASHRAE chart.

Now since (0.029-0.0264)Lbw = 0.0026 Lb of water X 100 = 0.26% of total

system water will be evaporated.
So this means that we have Flow(US gpm)= 238 GPM TOTAL WATER SYSTEM FLOW
but a 0.26% of water will be lost on vaporization: this is (238Gallons per Minute X
0.0026)= 0.62Gallons per Minute meaning that during the process the system will be
lost 37.2 Gallons Per Hour on Evaporation approximately (NOTE: THIS ONLY WILL
OCCUR AT 100% OF TOTTALY DEMAND).

37.2 Gallons per Hour x 0.5 demand factor: 18.6 Gallons Per hour of Make Up water
need to Recover.

The piping can be on 1” SCH-40 PVC diameter to connect to the process Water
Storage tank .
