The following steps describe the electrical safety tests according to IEC
60601 (or UL 2601-1) and VDE 0751. Any decision about performing
safety checks according to VDE 0751 or IEC 60601 must be made under
consideration of applicable national regulations. Electrical safety must be
tested either to IEC 60601 (or UL 2601-1) or to VDE 0751 (in the
Germany region VDE 0751 is applicable).
The Primus conforms to the requirements of protection class I. With
option SpO2 to type BF.

A description of how to use the "Secutest", "GM50" and "Wison" testers

is given in the relevant service documentation. The Wison tester can
only be used for testing according to VDE 0751.

)LJ Protective earth conductor test

Description of the illustration:

A test alternating voltage of approx. 6 V is connected via a current limiter
to the protective conductor of the test specimen (Primus). The test probe
scans the conductive parts of the test specimen. The PE resistance is
derived from the flowing current and the voltage connected to the test
specimen. The PE current is min. 10 A.

Note regarding wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted devices with

permanently wired power cable: The protective conductor measurement
should be taken between grounded metal parts of the ceiling
pendant/wall mounting and the Primus.
Connect the test cable for protective conductor contact resistance
7900882 to the tester. The black conductor of this test cable is wired to
the earthing contacts of the three-pin plug.
Connect the black conductor of the test cable to the metal parts of the
ceiling pendant/wall mounting. Using the test probe of the tester
measure the resistance to the metal parts of the Primus listed below.

Description of the illustration:

A test voltage in the amount of the mains voltage is connected between

to the protective conductor is the equivalent device leakage current.

The following describes the performance test for the high-pressure
reducers for O2, N2O (optional) and AIR (optional). The procedure is the
same for all tests, and is run through in sequence for O2, N2O and AIR.
1. Close high-pressure cylinders.
2. Disconnect the high-pressure connecting tube of the high-pressure
reducer being tested from the Primus and connect it to flowmeter
7900718.
3. Slowly open the relevant high-pressure cylinder until a supply pressure of
approx. 10 bar is set.
At a supply pressure of approx. 10 bar the flow is greater than 80 L/min.
[OK]
4. Close high-pressure cylinder.
5. Connect high-pressure tube to Primus.

This test includes a check of the battery capacity. Consequently, the
battery must be fully charged.

In the battery capacity test, the Primus must be run for 30 minutes
without mains power. During this time you can continue with the other
tests. After 30 minutes the mains power must be restored.

Variation among mixer temperature sensors.

5132.300 Primus Released 2002-03-20 30/64

1. Read off temperature measurements "TMGS" from the master (MA) and
supervisor (SV) and compare them (service mode "Mixer" menu).
2. Enter the difference.
The difference must not be greater than 3 °C.
3. Disconnect the central AIR and N2O supply.

Precondition:
Primus is on.
The checklist has been confirmed.
Primus is in the service mode "Mixer" menu.
Valves "VMIXO2", "VMIXAIR" and "VMIXN2O" are closed.
Central O2 supply is connected (the others are not).
The service mode "service tests" menu is activated.
The mixer service tests 4, 5, 10, 3 and 6 have been run through in the
sequence specified.

In flow testing in service mode the Primus always assumes the gas type
to be O2. Do not use any other type of gas!
When operating at altitude, note that the flow valve "VMGS" of the
Primus delivers a mass flow. The volume at higher altitudes increases
according to the following equation:
V = VMGStarget * 1013 mbar / PU
PU - current ambient pressure. Can be determined, for example, by way
of the pressure sensor "PTANK" with the "VTANK" valve open.
The following test is performed with a tank pressure of approx. 2.3 bar.
The operating pressure in normal Primus operation is around 1.5 bar.
The control loop may fluctuate owing to the higher pressure. This is
indicated by the float in the flowmeter block fluctuating. If this happens,
"VTANK" can be opened during flow metering. The tank pressure is then
closer to the operating point of "VMGS".
The settling time of the control loop when target values are changed
may be as long as 5 seconds.

1. Close "VTANK".
2. Open "VMIXO2".
