Introduction:

The project, which I did on Qantas, provided me a superb learning experience regarding

the work process and my roles and responsibilities. Also, as a team, we have put-in our best

efforts and work in coordination with each other to deliver the best results. Probably, this is my

first group project and during all the course work, I learned how to handle different situations

and cope-up with them. Also, the project has sharpened my analytical and leadership skills. It

was a challenging task for me as well as for other members, because of differences in our

thought process, working style and ability to deal with a problem. But, after all this, we have to

perform like a team and had to give our best.

During this group activity, I have learned the significance of working in groups.

Moreover, we had a great time working with each other and now, I am feeling confident that I

can work effectively in a group and can deliver the best results.

Discussion on Group Performance and Ability to work in A Group:

My experience while working in this group task was highly learned and proved to be

fruitful for me in every respect. I had a support of good team members and enjoyed every

moment while working with them. The opportunity of working together as a team had given us a

chance to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses in a proper manner, so that we can work

more effectively. Also, this group activity has given me a chance to improve my interpersonal

skills and other personality development skills as a leader.

According to Beesona and Valerio (2012), an individual can become a great leader by

managing skills of patience, motivation, self reliant effective communication and proactive

approach. During the course of this group activity, I have performed all my tasks with great

enthusiasm and dedication. I really enjoyed working with all my group members. Having a good

understanding among all of us, help us to perform all tasks (that are required to be performed

during the project) with perfection and high effectiveness.

Kilner (2010) asserted that, working in a team is highly difficult for individuals because

of differences in the languages, culture, values and perceptions. Similarly, we have faced several

difficulties and ups and downs while doing this project, but we overcame from all of them

effectively and completed the task on time because of having positive working approach.

I was the head or the leader of my group that is heading for a project on Qantas. My role

was to guide the team members in a proper manner in order to execute all tasks effectively and to

assign the tasks to them as per their capability and understanding of the task. According to

McKinney, et al. (2004), in order to lead a group of team successfully, I should have effective

communication and listening skills. A leader should consider contribution of all members in the

success of the group and take suggestion from all members to improve their performances.

By following participative leadership approach, I used my critical skills for maintaining a

proper co-ordination among the team members and to guide and motivate them time to time for

proper accomplishment of the work assigned (Taştan, 2013). In order to execute any project or

task, a proper planning is required to understand the implications and consequences of every

activity. And, this is what we have also done for our project. But, despite of a proper planning

schedule and good understanding of the each of our roles and responsibilities, we faced some

issues during this group activity. The first and the foremost was the lack of communication at

some point of time and the other was the lack of certain resources.

Without having effective communication in both verbal and written form, it is not

possible to understand each other’s perception and pass information on time (McKinney, et al.,

2004). We all know that proper communication is utmost important to perform any task or

activity with accuracy and to achieve success. Therefore, we have conducted some meetings to

discuss all issues we were facing in all our respective roles and had taken suggestions from each

other to achieve the best results.

Though, we were working individually on our assigned tasks, yet we have support of

each other, which is another beneficial factor of working in a group. It has also built an

environment of trust and confidence among all. Also, this group task has provided us a good

learning in different areas, like taking accountability of our faults, sharing of thoughts more

expressively to give better understanding to others, keep your focus towards your goals until it

gets achieved, and so on. Besides this, it also helped us to improve our social skills i.e. to

understand the strength and weaknesses of people in a proper manner.

It is the result of our team effort and proper understanding that we excelled in our tasks

and delivered the best results. We all know that learning experience at every stage of life is the

biggest teacher in itself. It helps us in our overall development, be in terms of knowledge or in

analyzing things from both negative and positive perspective. I have learned from this group

task, which would help me in executing other group tasks successfully.

My Performance and Experience:

During the course of this group project, I learned to do things in a systematic manner i.e.

step by step. Also, I learned that how one needs to stay calm and relaxed to tackle different

situations. Before taking on this project, I was lacking managerial and leadership skills, but now

I have gained these skills also. In addition to this, earlier I was not having any information

related to airlines industry, but now I am well aware of their services, working conditions and

other related things.

In this group project, my task was to handle my team effectively and to prepare a useful

and accurate report with all correct facts and figures. I am happy and very much satisfied that I

have carried out my roles and responsibilities in an effective manner. I have also learned some

new skills, like motivational skills, leadership qualities, how to behave in group and the ability to

present yourself confidently and strongly in front of others.

This group activity has benefited me in every respect to get the work done in a highly

professional and effective manner and on time. I learned about time management and task

management. I also learned critical thinking skills i.e. to think rationally and productively in

critical situations.

My analytical and presentation skills have been also improved a lot. After all the learning

and experience, I am now able to guide and lead a diversified team in a well-versed manner.

Also, I am able to formulate planned and result-oriented strategies to accomplish any task. I have

also learned the usefulness of proper and effective communication and how it helps in successful

accomplishment of the work. I was very much enthusiastic and eager to learn different practical

and theoretical aspects, related to this project.

Also, I realized one thing that any task can be completed or achieved in a perfect manner

with the support of group members. Cultural diversity is main concept that can create hurdle in

smooth performance of a group (Subeliani and Tsogas, 2005), but I also learned how to cope in a

diversified environment and how to give value to other’s views and performance. Also, any

difficulty or issue can be resolved in minutes and without much of stress with help of group

members. Cultural diversity available in the groups also improved my skills and knowledge to

learn about different cultures and focus on different perspectives of a single problem to find out

better solution.

Conclusion:

Overall, this group project comes out as a positive learning experience for me that helped

me in my personal growth and development. Not even for me, this group project also proved to

be beneficial for all other members of the team. We faced lot of issues and difficulties while

doing this project, but, in the end, everything went good. We were successful in making a very

good project that also help others in getting a better understating of Qantas and its related issues.

All my team members were very good in their effort and supported me in every manner. I

am very much thankful to them and give credit to them also in the successful completion of this

project. Without their support and effort, it won’t be possible to execute this project in an

effectual manner.
