Cause
To better gather and document information on engine failures.
Action
It is required that the dealership completes the following checklist
and obtains a print out of the data logger to attach to a new
Techline call if an engine fails, or is suspect to have failed, in order
to provide this information to Engineering for review and analysis.

If an engine has failed or is suspect to have failed, the following
checklist is required to be completed and a Techline call has to
be opened. Attach the checklist to the Techline call and keep a
copy of the completed checklist with the failed engine in the event
Volvo requires the failed engine to be returned.
In addition, connect the Service master to the machine and also
attach a print out of the data logger section to the Techline call.
To obtain a print out of the data logger, follow the procedure:
1 Connect Service master to the machine.
2 Go to the Data Logger Tool.
3 Once in the Data Logger Tool, go to [File] at the top left hand
corner of the screen and select [Read Data], see Fig. 1.

4 Once Service master has read the ECU (electronic control
unit) data, go back to [File], and select [Print].
5 Save the file to your computer and attach the file to the
Techline call.
