01. Check the orientation and location of header as
per the layout drawings. Check tube hole pitching
and orientation are as per the tube assembly
02. Check & ensure the location, quantity and size of
the following are given correctly and also verify
a. with P & ID.
b. Stubs for Economiser elements.
c. Feed water inlet terminal.
d. Inspection stub.
e. Drain nozzle.
Instrument nozzles (PG, TG etc.)
03. Check the header thickness, endplate thickness
and nozzle/stub thickness provided are in
compliance with IBR/ASME codes whichever is
applicable. Ensure correct dimension of pipes
such as OD, thick and flange dimension are given.
04. Check whether all relevant fabrication notes,
erection notes, material notes and design data are
given.
05. Check whether the design pressure is same as the
drum design pressure and the metal temperature
is given as follows.
Max. Metal Temp = Max. working temperature
06. Check the tensile strength and min. calculated
thickness are provided for all pressure parts.
07. Check stress relieving requirement is specified as
per IBR in design data.
08. Check the velocity of water in the header is within
limit.
09. Check header elevation/position with reference
drawings.
10. Check whether dummy stubs are provided and if
so check whether sealing of dummy stubs are
provided.
11. Check whether all the dimensions are available
from any reference point. For nozzles ensure that
the dimension from CL of header to the tip of
nozzle is marked, in addition to the nozzle length
provided in detail.
12. Check whether header stamping details are
specified in the drawing
13. Check the stub length given is matching with tube
assembly drawing.

14. Ensure weld details / edge preparation details of


all nozzles, flanges are given and are inline with
the relevant code. Ensure that dimensioning of
welding fig. is done on the welding detail. If more
nozzles are having the same welding fig. the
dimensions shall be tabulated near the welding
fig.
15. Ensure edge preparation of all nozzles are given in
accordance with succeeding pipe dimensions.
16. Check and ensure header location, inspection
branches and safety valve are accessible for
maintenance.
17. Check whether auxiliary tapping are taken
sufficiently away from tube hole area and check
the accessibility of this valve.
18. Ensure preceding pipe routing will not foul with
any structure /equipment or obstruct free
movement of personnel.
19. Check pads, cleats are not fouling with tube
holes. If pad is welded on header check vent hole
is provided on the pad.

20. Check and ensure that all the parts are identified
by mark nos. and included in the material list
along with the quantity and material specification.
21. Check the drawing no. is as per drawing list.
22. Check provision of lugs for hangers for top
supported boilers.
23. Check whether additional length has been
provided on all the nozzle as per the following
standard.
a. Cutting allowance : 15 mm for nozzle 
up to 3”
: 20 mm for nozzle  above
3”
b. Hydro. test allowance : 40 mm (Excluding
end pl. thk.)
The total length shall be rounded off to nearest 5
mm.
Also check header length is given considering 20
mm allowance on each cutting edge
24. Ensure that all details for the fabrication of header
are available in drawing.
25. Check whether bending radius is given for the
stubs which are having bends.
26. Check whether the pad material is of similar /
equivalent pipe material.
27. If thermowell is provided check whether the
thermowell bottom is extended upto the centerline
of header.

28. Check whether inspection branch is provided at


the end of header. If it is not possible it shall be
given at the side and at accessible location. Also
check whether the inspection branch pipes are
made of minimum 100 NB pipe
29. Check the insulation thickness, area and cladding
requirement are given.
30. Check drawing layers, standards, quality of
drawing as per Alstom work instructions.
31. Check whether fastener requirement and gasket
requirement are given.
32. Check whether the painting specification is given
as indicated below.
a. One boiler in Two coat of red oxide zinc
contract chromate primer.
b. Two boilers in First Two coats of red
contract Boiler oxide zinc chromate
primer.
Second
Boiler Two coats of Grey
oxide zinc chromate
primer.
