Acting ICE Director in Charge
Krome Service Processing Center

Email: liana.j.castano@ice.dhs.gov
Dear Messrs. Cuffari and Rodriguez and Mses. Quinn and Castano:
We are aware of the complaints from Muslim Advocates, Americans for Immigrant Justice,
Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association, Interfaith Alliance, Bend the Arc Jewish Action,
Faithful America, Interfaith Immigration Coalition, and United We Dream, concerning the
following:
• Since COVID-19, the ICE-run Krome Service Processing Center in Miami, FL has been
serving pork to Muslim detainees in violation of their religious beliefs.
• Because the facility’s halal meals have been spoiled and expired, Krome’s Muslim
detainees must choose between their faith and their food.
• When a detainee asked for help, the facility’s chaplain is reported to have callously said,
“It is what it is.”
We join in demanding that you hold all ICE officials accountable for this religious abuse and
ensure that Muslims at all ICE facilities have access to unexpired halal meals.
