 Topic 1: DEFINING ART                                                                   How do

you define art? For many people, art is a tangible thing: a painting, sculpture,
photograph, dance, poem or play. Art is uniquely human and tied directly to
culture. As an expressive medium, it allows us to experience wide ranges of
emotion, between joy or sorrow, or confusion and clarity. It gives voice to
ideas and feelings, connects us to the past, reflects the present, and
anticipates the future. Visual art is a rich and complex subject, and its
definition is in flux as the culture around it changes. This unit examines how
art is defined, and the different ways it functions in societies and cultures.
Why DO We Make ART?
•      Let`s Define ART first….
•      The expression of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a
visual form such as painting or sculpture.
•      Works produced by such skill and imagination.
•      Art is any creative work of human being.
•      Art is a form of expressing oneself
•      Art resides in quality of doing; it is a process not a magic.
Art Appreciation define as…
•      Is the knowledge and understanding of the universal and timeless
qualities that identify all great art.. the more we appreciate and understand
the art of different eras, movements, styles and technique, the better we can
develop, evaluate and improve your own artwork
•      Is the ability to interpret or understand man made arts  and enjoy them
either through actual work experiences with art tools and materials or
possession of these works of art for one`s admiration and satisfaction.
 Art Criticism
•      Is the discussion or evaluation of visual art?
•      Art critics usually criticize art in the context of aesthetics or the theory of
beauty.
Art criticism and appreciation can be subjective based on personal
preference toward aesthetics and form or it can be based on the
elements and principle of design and by social and cultural
acceptance.
