4.0 METHOD & QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURE

.1.1 HACKING OFF BORED PILES

4.1.1.1 Piles shall be exposed to 75mm below cut off level. The level shall
then be marked on exposed bored piles.

4.1.1.2 Bored piles shall then be hacked using pneumatic breaker up to the
pile cut-off level or up to required lap length whichever is greater.

4.1.1.3 Waste piles shall then be disposed.

4.1.1.4 As-built positions of piles shall be recorded by surveyor before

carrying out any further works.

.1.1 CONSTRUCTION OF PILE EXTENSION / PIER COLUMN

4.2.1.1 The reinforcement of pile extension / pier columns shall be

extended vertically maintaining lap length of 50D with the starter bar
of pile.

4.2.1.2 Circular steel mould of 900mm and 1500mm dia. shall be used for
abutment and pier column respectively.
4.2.1.3 The position and verticality of the moulds shall be checked for
accuracy and tolerance before concreting.

4.2.1.4 Concreting shall be carried out using crane and bucket. The lift of
concreting shall be approximately 2.0m.

4.2.1.5 Where required, scaffolding with timber platform shall be erected

around the pile / pier location for the workers to pour concrete above
ground level.

4.2.1.6 The mould shall be removed after 12 hours of concreting. Curing

compound shall be sprayed on concrete surface for curing purposes.

4.3. CONSTRUCTION OF ABUTMENTS /PIER CAP

4.3.3.1 Temporary staging for piercap construction shall be

erected. The dimensions of staging shall be sized for adequate and
safe working area.

4.3.3.2 Bottom timber formwork shall be fixed first. Side formwork

will only be installed after reinforcement bars and bolt stainless steel
threaded bar for electrification mast mounting, fabricated according to
drawings, are put in place.

4.3.3.3 Levels shall be marked on the formwork for concreting to

maintain the required top camber of piercap.

4.3.3.4 The piercap shall be concreted using crane and bucket.

4.3.3.5 The side formwork for piercap shall be stripped after 12 hours
of concreting. Bottom formwork and staging shall be removed after 7-
10 days provided concrete has attained 2/3 of 28-day strength.

4.3.3.6 Curing of concrete shall be carried out by applying curing

compound on exposed concrete surface.

4.3.3.7 The construction sequence for abutment cap is similar to the

above except no staging is required due to its position which is at
ground level.

4.3.3.8 Having exposed and hacked the piles to cut-off level, 75mm
thick lean concrete shall be laid followed by the above sequence.

4.3.3.9 Dowel bars for precast slabs shall be provided at required

locations before concreting.
