Accounting Technology

The Accounting Technology program is designed to provide


learners with a thorough working knowledge of fundamental

accounting procedures. Upon program completion, learners

will have developed the skills necessary to maintain manual

or computerized accounting records for a business.

Program graduates who have acceptable standing from


courses in the areas of Financial Accounting, Managerial
Accounting, Business Law, Economics and Computers may be
granted credit exemptions in these areas by the CGA
(Certified General Accountants Association) or other
universities and colleges.

The program offers real world experiences, on-the-job


training, field trips, hands-on projects, and industry
speakers, combined with creative and innovative teaching
methods to ensure learners gain a deep-rooted knowledge of
today’s business world.

Students in the Accounting Technology program will choose


a course of study in either of two profiles:

Accounting Technician
The Accounting Technician profile provides learners with
a thorough working knowledge of fundamental accounting
procedures using current software programs including Simply
Accounting for Windows, ACCPAC, Excel, Quick Books, Word
and Caseware, as well as current tax programs. Learners
acquire the skills to prepare financial statements and
analyze the results.

Learners will be required to complete up to eight weeks of


on-the-job training in the second year of their program.

Bookkeeper
The Bookkeeper profile provides learners with the skills
necessary to work in today’s sophisticated accounting
environments. The emphasis is on performing the skills
and not on analysis of operating results and managerial
accounting functions.

The learner should be able to work in any part of an


accounting department such as accounts payable or
accounts receivable.

Learners will be required to complete up to six weeks of


on-the-job training.
