ACTIVITY # O1.
 IDENTIFY PROBLEMS OF THE COMMUNITY.
1. Difficulty in removal of stains of grease on fabric. Stains of oil & kerosene oil were also
hard to remove.
2. The problem of storage were the major problem that had been identified. Houses are
usually small. All the blankets & pillows cupboards & showcase were placed in one
room. The cupboard had no space to place more clothes or other upholstery material
due to inappropriate arrangement.
3. There is a lack of care for infant clothing. People had not any idea about how to wash,
dry and store infant’s clothes.
4. Lack of knowledge about how to understand label. It was necessary for them to
understand labels as without proper instruction of labels, people are not be able to do
proper laundry.
5. Scarcity of proper knowledge about how they can reduce the amount of money they
spent on clothes by repairing them & creating a mix and match of clothes according to
the principles of art.
6. Uncommonness of sustainable life style. Lack of concept of “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”.
Usually people throw away used clothes that could be used more.
7. Due to humid & warm climate. Color selection for clothes is most important as some
colors absorbs heat & that could be dangerous as there would be a serious risk of heat
stroke. Issue of color selection for summers.
8. Inappropriate laundry practices. People usually use inadequate amount of detergent for
laundering. Insufficient knowledge about sorting of clothes in washing machine.

ACTIVITY # 02

 IDENTIFY SOLUTIONS OF PROBLEMS THAT EXIST IN COMMUNITY.

1. For Removal of stains of oil use Talcum Powder/Baby Powder. Spread some talcum
powder or baby powder on the stained part of the cloth, leave for 2-3 minutes & then
launder.
 For grease stain Take a soft cloth. Sprinkle some cornstarch on it. Rub it on the
grease stain, till it vanishes. Then launder it.

2. For storage issues smart folding of clothes can reduce the amount of space. Towels can
be rolled instead of straight fold. Another ways like sections in drawers, hooks & rods
for hanging, boxes/bags with compartments for seasonal storage. By these ideas the
wardrobe would be organized as well as will store more clothes.

5
3. Give them awareness about infant wear. Use detergent with no added colors, intense
fragrance & conditioning chemicals. Use baking soda for washing infant wear (1 tbsp
corn starch dissolve in 1 liter of water). Luke warm water is ideal for washing infant
clothing. Don’t stretch or twist clothes. Dry in sunlight but sunlight should not be direct.
Store them in wardrobe in separate section.

4. Teach them label symbols like symbol of bleaching, not bleach, ironing etc. by making
them diagrams in an easy way.

5. To give them knowledge about mending & repairing so they can use what they have. By
giving sense of color selection for clothes to create amazing mix and match of clothes.
Like black trouser will go with any color. Showing color schemes, shades and tints of
colors.

6. Demonstrate them to adequate reuse & recycling of clothes. Making of bags, pouches,
clutches, wall hangings, accessory boxes and many other things can be made through
recycling.

7. For extremely high temperatures in summers wear lightweight, light-colored and loose-
fitting clothing. Avoid dark colors -- dark clothes absorb the sun's heat, while light colors
or white reflects light and heat.

8.  For laundry only use about a tablespoon of laundry detergent per regular load size. (The
measuring cup that comes with your liquid laundry detergent is about 10 times larger
than the actual amount of laundry soap needed).Sort clothes based on color, based on
weight, wash dark and bright clothes together, Wash the most urgent load first,
Finish with underwear and socks. Don’t wash clothes of a person in washing machine
who has contagious disease or skin problem.

ACTIVITY # 03
 PLANNING OF PROJECT:
 In first meeting, all objectives for internship were set.
 Discussion for activities were held.
 In second & third meeting the area were decided (where internship has to do).
 Application was signed by principal Dr. Rubina hakeem to grant permission for
internship at “Samanabad Block 18 (Kachi abadi ) .
 A van were arranged for visit.
 Before visit, the people of those houses signed a consent letter to permit us for
visiting their houses.
 Application to excuse classes were signed by subject teacher.
 Discussion on questions that have to ask to those people and first visit.

6
 On first visit, we met with people, seek their problems by visual inspection of
house. Then we tried to interact with them with gentle talk about their daily life
practices. After, when they fully interacted with us we decided to ask questions
to them about their problems.

QUESTIONS THAT HAD BEEN ASKED:

 What problems you are facing related to clothing practices?
 What problems you are facing regarding laundry practices?
 What problems you are facing in removal of stains?
 What problems you are facing concerning to infant clothing?
 What problems you are facing regarding to wardrobe organization & planning?
 What problems you are facing regarding to storage in your room?
 Do you know how to mend clothes?

After general discussion we identified all the problems related to clothing, laundry, & storage.
We took pictures and make videos of their house & wardrobe with their consent.
After all this work, we started to work on solution of these problems.

7
We planned all activities regarding those problems that had been identified and make checklist
of all

ACTIVITY 07
 DISPLAY & PROMOTION:
Blog on display of Community Internship (2019)
In Pakistan, the people living in underprivileged areas have a lot of potential and
talent, the only setback is that they lack in confidence due to illiteracy, and have very
limited resources available at home. In Pakistan, however the handmade crafts are very
15
popular and valuable. The handicrafts sector plays a vital role in income and
employment for generation and has also been recognized worldwide as a tool for
poverty reduction. For our community internship program, we plan to motivate and
enhance the craft skills of the women of underprivileged areas to utilize their available
limited resources at home and to promote the concept of recycling. We educated them
how to utilize their resources to make products for sale to earn income despite of not
having any modern resources or techniques available for them. To educate the women
of underprivileged area, we visited them at Samanabad Federal B. area block 18 near
Hasni Technical College for our community internship project and to serve them in a
better way that is most beneficial for them. We took with us the available material at
home for the purpose of recycling and demonstrate them how to utilize those used
materials in order to make a recycled product and earn by the sale of those products.
We provided them the needed material to enable them to make quality products from
the available material. They worked hard and make it successful beyond our
expectations. Then we arranged a display/sale of those recycled products made by them
at our college for women empowerment and to give them confidence that they have a
potential to work hard which will enable them to earn at home respectfully in this
society. Through this community development program we guided them to the path by
which they can earn for the betterment of their living. The outcome was positive and
the journey we have embarked on must be continued later.
