Course Title: Society and Culture with Family Planning

Course Code: Soc. Sci. 1

Prerequisite: None

Professor: Ricky G. Lorenzo

Course Credit: 3 units

Course Description:

The course will introduce to the students concepts, theories, and perspectives vital in the understanding of society and culture. An in depth discussion of basic
social institutions forming the social structure will be emphasized in order to increase the awareness of students of the current issues confronting the present social
structure. In so doing, the students are also expected to understand their individual and collective functions in confronting such issues. Furthermore, a special
discussion will be devoted on family planning, taking into account family planning and reproductive health concepts and issues that are significant agendum of the
society’s project on social order

The mission of Northern Christian College is training of the spiritual, intellectual, social and physical qualities of the youth of the Philippines with special emphasis
on the development of Christian character as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

 Comprehend the theories, processes of society and culture.


 Debate on the current issues concerning culture and society.
 Expound the relationship between social forces and the religious, economic and political institutions.

 Make a critical analysis of Filipino culture in the light of the different sociological theories.
 Explain the roles of social institutions as bases of order in the society.

 Show Christian core values most especially the love of God, forgiveness of sins, unconditional love, and renunciation of violence while dealing with
the different facets of the teaching and learning process.

 Recognize the dynamics and processes happening in the Philippine society.


 Understand family planning and responsible parenthood.

1.3 PSYCHMOTOR

 Examine varied concepts on reproductive health and family planning.


 Conduct a sociodrama which reflects the kind of society we have in the Philippines.

III. SELF-LEARNING
 Explain the major concepts related to culture and society.
 Explain and differentiate the various theoretical views of culture.
 Identify some issues related to our own and other cultures.

IV. GLOCAL AWARENESS

 Appreciate and respect various ethnic cultures of the Filipinos.

 Develop a general acceptance of our own tolerance for other c ultures.

COURSE POLICIES:

1. A 20% absence in class means a failing grade (5); for absence due to health reason to be excused, submit a medical certificate duly signed by the attending
physician.

2. Failure to submit requirements on schedule means a reduction in points for the work.

3. Make-up exams should be scheduled beforehand.

4. Adding/ Dropping/ Changing of subjects is on the second week of classes.
