The development of industrial network enhances the technical requirement in
related field

Based on big data, AI, visual identity and other high-tech

industrial applications, it stimulates the demand of edge
computing technology, and puts forward high a demand for
network bandwidth and technical flexibility.

The development of the IoT technology raise higher requirements

for the access scale of the network, as well as stronger
requirements for the feature and performance provided by the
network equipment.

ITOT convergence has become a new trend in industrial network.

It improves the flexibility and
· effectiveness of industrial production,
and makes the technical characteristics and topology design of
industrial network more flexible.

Hirschmann has more than 30 years of experience in designing

network equipment, with outstanding software and hardware
·
technology accumulation, able to design excellent products to
meet the needs of practicality, cost and flexibility of IT network.

Case study

Scenario 1: Subway

• The subway is responsible for the transportation of more than 10 satellite town nearby, which
concerns around 5 million people
• It is OA network for the subway station, Hirschmann IT products provide the forwarding bandwidth
and the operation flexibility that surpass PTN network for the OA network via using ring topology
and combining the feature of MTS switch.
− Using ERPS ring network mixing stacking technology, 40G uplink and downlink bandwidth
− ~90ms ring network convergence time, outstandingly surpass STP/RSTP
− Aiming at different circumstance, such as parking lot and office building, divides the router and broadcast
area
• Using MTS26/27/28/2900 series switch
− MTS2624 switches are used to connect PC, terminal and non-PoE cameras
− MTS2700 series switches are used to connect PoE camera and IP telephones.
− MTS2800 series switches serve as the stacking node of the ring network of the subway station
− MTS2900 series switches serve as the L3 data core of the OA network system.

Topology for Scenario 1 - Subway

• Reliability design
− Use ERPS self-recovery ring
− Broadly use stacking and LACP binding
• Highlight point
− Backbone ring network has 40Gbps
bandwidth
− Station04 are accessed by 850 client
− Depot are accessed by 1200 cameras
− Around 50 clients are connected to each
station
• Security design
− Storm control
− Syslog/SNMP trap event tracking in
whole network
− Tripwire ® TIV audits traffic via Core
Layer switch
− Use SSHv2 and activate DAI detective
function

Scenario 2: Smart Building

• The park contains 3 main buildings, that have 35, 13 and 7 floors respectively. Smart building mainly
covers the need of CCTV, Internet service for tenant, WIFI service for parking lot, intelligent patrol and
the operating of OA system
• The network for the whole park needs to fulfill multi-tenants’ requirements and need to reserve enough
extension resources to meet the future requirement of resources
− Use large modular core switch to serve as the core of the OA system
− Separate the tenant network, OA and surveillance network, to reduce the interference between them and enhance
the security
− Use star topology

• Using MTS26/27/29/8000 series switch

− MTS2624 switches are used to connect PC, terminal and non-PoE cameras
− MTS2700 series switches are used to connect PoE camera and IP telephones
− MTS2900 series switches serve as the aggregation device for tenant network and the OA network
− MTS8003 switches serve as the L3 data core of the network system

Topology for Scenario 2 – Smart Building

• Reliability design
Router ERP MES − Redundant gateway design based on VRRP
Access switch − Broadly use stacking and LACP binding
Core switch • Highlight point
PDM Server group
− Both tenant network and the OA system for
MTS8003 MTS8003
the building use 40G bandwidth to uplink to
core switches
− Parking has 700 cameras need to be

Scenario 3: O&G on site control network

• This O&G station is responsible for transmit rich O&G resources in west part of China to well-
developed region in East part of China
• The network is constructed mainly by DCS auto-control network, in order to realize auto-control of
the unattended well site, video surveillance and remote management. The device and the topology
are required to have high reliability objectively
• The circumstance of users’ onsite device are quite complicated and the geographical span is quite
large
− Use stacking design to make sure the reliability of the topology and the data link
− Connect each other to the devices from 6 different vendors, interoperate within multiple ring protocol, STP
and RSTP
− The speed of the ports range from 10M to 10GE, both TX and fiber ports are needed
• MTS2600 switch and MTS2948 switch are used in this case
− MTS2600 serve as the port extender and access layer switch
− MTS2948 serve as core switch of the network

Scenario 3: O&G on site control network

• Reliability design
− Redundant gateway design based on VRRP
Workstation and server − All rings use dual-homing/coupling uplink

• Highlight point
GE edge switch Cisco 2911 − DCS workstation and server create continuous
To the FTE access switch traffic
control MTS2624
− All cameras aggregate video stream that are
center over 500MB/s
Core switch Network managing
