The TCS Billion Steps Challenge period is starting from 28th September 2018. After a 
phenomenal response of 200000+ registrations, it's time to honour our pledge and 
make our steps count. Even if you have not registered you can still participate in this 
challenge and help create history by downloading the TCS 50 app and logging in your 
efforts.  
 
So gear up and get the updated version of the TCS 50 App to start clocking your 
efforts. All TCS India associates clocking 5 km or more on the TCS 50 App will win a 
gift voucher worth Rs.500 from PUMA and Gems rewards to the top 100 associates 
with the highest logged efforts across the globe. So let's go, get the Billion!! 
 
Following are some FAQ's regarding the mobile application and PUMA voucher 
redemption: 
 
1.How can I participate in the billion steps challenge? 
A.You can participate in the billion steps challenge by walking or running during the 
challenge period. You can also participate in the internal walkathons or runs 
organized by your project team or local HR team. In sum, all walking/running that you 
do during the Challenge period, shall count towards your contribution to the Billion 
steps target. 
 
2.What is the period of Billion Steps Challenge? 
A.28th Sep (Friday) – 7th Oct (Sunday) 2018. 
 
3.I have not registered for the Billion Steps Challenge, can I still participate in the 
challenge. 
A.Yes. Registration is not mandatory for participating in the challenge. Any TCSer can 
participate in the challenge and log the effort using TCS 50 mob app. 
 
4.Can I contribute more than 5 km during the challenge period? 
A.Yes during the challenge period you should do a minimum of 5 Km but you are 
encouraged to walk/run more than 5 km. Some of the associates plan to do 20 km 
and more. As a family unit, some have promised to do 100 km!  
 
5.How do I log efforts for TCS Billion Steps Challenge? 
A.The effort has to be logged in the TCS50 mob app. It can be logged either in terms 
of number of steps or in Km.  
To log efforts, login the TCS50 app and follow the navigation as indicated: Tap on 
Billion Steps Challenge button on Home --> Submit the Consent form (if not done 
already) --> Navigate to BSC Dashboard --> Tap on Auto Tracking toggle (to track 
efforts automatically) or Add steps manually (to log efforts manually). 
 
6.Can the efforts be logged automatically? 
A. TCS 50 mob app allows effort logging by auto tracking mode. There is an in-built 
step counter that is activated when you switch on auto-tracking. Navigate to BSC 
Dashboard --> Switch ON the Auto Tracking toggle 
 
7.Can the efforts be entered manually? 
A.Yes. Instead of auto-tracking, you may also directly enter the steps or km manually. 
Navigate to BSC Dashboard --> Tap on Add steps manually button and log the 
efforts. 
 
8.Can I log my efforts in steps and kilometres? 
A.Yes. You can log your efforts either in steps or as km. 
 
9.How many steps are equivalent to 5 km? 
A.5 km = 6550 steps 
 
10.Why do I have to give consent to log my efforts during the billion steps challenge? 
A.To collect, store, process and share the employee data, it is mandatory to obtain 
the employee consent.  
 
11.Will my efforts be routed to and stored in Fit4life portal? 
A.Yes. All the efforts contributed by the associates and their families will be stored in 
Fit4life portal after the challenge period. 
 
12.Who are eligible to participate as family in the Billion Steps Challenge? 
A.Eligible family members are – parents, spouse and children. You can log efforts for 
maximum 6 eligible family members. 
 
13.Will be my family’s effort be considered towards billion steps challenge? 
A.Yes. The efforts logged for associates and their families will be considered towards 
the Billion Steps Challenge. 
 
14.Do my family members have to download tcs50 Mob app? 
A.No. The TCS50 mob app can be downloaded only by TCS associates. 
 
15. Then how will my family members log their effort? 
A.You can go the TCS 50 app and chose effort logging for your family and log the 
effort on their behalf. 
Login the TCS50 app and follow the steps as indicated to log efforts for family: Tap 
on Billion Steps Challenge button on Home --> Submit the Consent form (if not done 
already) --> Navigate to BSC Dashboard --> Tap on Add steps manually button --> 
Choose 'My family' in the drop-down and log the efforts. 
 
16.Can I enter my goal for my family members? 
A.No. The Mob App only captures your personal goal. 
 
17.If I am using fitness tracker/smart watches/apps, how do I log my efforts for the 
billion steps challenge? 
A.The most convenient way is auto log your efforts using the TCS 50 mobile app with 
an in-built auto log feature. However, you can use your existing tracker or wear to 
capture the efforts and then, you can log the efforts manually into the TCS 50 mob 
app. 
 
18. Can I enter my goal in terms of what I want to achieve in the challenge? 
A.Yes. You may enter a target or commitment in terms of number of steps or km. You 
can also edit this later. This is your personal goal. Navigate to BSC Dashboard --> 
Tap on Edit your Goal icon --> Choose the new goal from slider and submit. This is 
your new personal goal. 
 
19.Is there any minimum target to be achieve per day? 
A.No. There is no minimum target per day.  
 
20.How can I see my personal dashboard of effort logged? 
A. A personal dashboard is available within the TCS 50 mob app – which would show 
your goal, and what you have logged so far.To access it, press “Billion Steps” button 
available at the TCS 50 app’s Home screen. This will take you to your personal 
dashboard once you give your consent to share data with us. 
 
21.How do I see the number of steps taken as a whole by all TCS-ers? 
A.You can see the TCS level achievement either in TCS50 mob app, or in Knome, or 
on your desktop (in the billion steps widget).To check it at the TCS 50 mobile app 
side, go to your personal dashboard, by tapping on the “Billion Steps” button 
available at the TCS 50 app’s Home screen. At the dashboard screen, the TCS level 
achievement will be shown at the top of the screen with a heading “Global 
contribution”. 
 
22. Will all the steps taken by me during the day (e.g. walking in the house, walking 
towards the office from or to the bus stand, railway station, morning or evening walk 
and run with family, etc.) be considered under Billion Steps Challenge?  
A.Yes. If you switch on the auto- tracker, all the steps that you take will be 
automatically counted. You can sync the steps to the database, as many times in a 
day as convenient to you. 
 
23. How do I sync the steps to the database?  
A.In case you have auto-tracker on, then the step counter syncs the effort to the 
database on three conditions. One, is whenever you switch the tracker off. When you 
do this, then the steps taken so far will get added to whatever you have done earlier, 
and aggregated in your score. Secondly, whenever you move out of the dashboard 
screen to any other screen, the sync takes place automatically. Third, you can 
vertically pull the dashboard screen from the top to sync your steps with the server. 
In case you are not using auto-tracking, and enter the effort manually, then the sync 
takes place instantaneously. 
 
24.Do I need a 24 hour Internet connectivity to log my efforts via Auto – tracking? 
A. No, your efforts will be counted even if you are not connected to Internet. The 
updated efforts will be visible on your personal dashboard once you are connected to 
internet again. 
 
25. Do I need to keep the app open if I have enabled Auto tracking to track my 
efforts? 
A. No, If you have enabled Auto tracking, your efforts are logged even if the app is 
running in background. 
 
26.Will I be able to Auto track my efforts if I logout the app? 
A. Your efforts are not tracked if you log out yourself. However, the efforts will be 
counted if there is an Auto logout due to Session time out. 
 
27. What happens if my app crashes, or battery dies or any other such mishap? Does 
my auto-tracker data get wiped out?  
A. No. The data would be saved in your device. It would be picked up when you start 
the app again, and you can then proceed as before. Even if you have some reason to 
install the App all over again, previous data would be automatically picked up.  
 
28. TCS50 mobile app is not installed in my device. What do I do? 
A. Please install it! You may download it either from Fresco 
Store (​https://apps.fresco.me/​) or from Ux Apps (​https://uxapps.ultimatix.net​). 
 
29. TCS50 mobile app in my phone is not the current version. Is that a problem? 
A.You would need the latest version. However, if you log in with the previous version, 
the system would ask you to update, and help you do that automatically. 
 
30. Will associates get any prizes for highest logged efforts? 
A. Top 100 Associates globally with the highest effort logged only through the auto 
tracking feature will win 5000 Gems each. 
 
31. Is there any maximum number of km that can be added manually on the app in 
one attempt ? 
A. In one attempt you can manually log in a maximum of 30 km.  
 
32. How long before the session times out on the mobile app? 
A. The session time out happens after 12 hrs however it is advisable to keep checking 
if your efforts are being logged.  
 
33. How to update the TCS50 app in iphone? 
A. If you try to open the previous version, the system would ask you to update, and 
help you do that automatically. Following are the steps to update : 
Open the TCS50 app --> Login with ultimatix credentials --> Dialog appears to inform 
that 'An update is available' --> Tap on Update button (This will close the app and 
may take few seconds in an iphone) --> Another dialog will appear to seek permission 
--> Tap on Install button to proceed further. 
 
34. How do I get PUMA voucher? How many times I can get PUMA vouchers? 
A. Within the challenge period any TCS India associate logging his first 5 km in the 
TCS 50 mob app is eligible for a PUMA gift voucher worth Rs. 500. It's on first come 
first serve basis valid till stocks last and it's limited to one per associate. 
 
35. If I walk or run 5km every day and log my efforts in the app, would I get one 
voucher per each 5km? 
A.No. It is one time and limited to first 5km logging for each associate. 
 
36. Are these vouchers available for families too? 
A. No. This is a special offer for TCS associates who have contributed min 5km to the 
billion steps challenge. 
 
37. What is validity of PUMA vouchers? 
A. 31st March 2019. 
 
38. How do I redeem PUMA vouchers? 
A.With a voucher, you can walk into any nearby PUMA store and get it redeemed. 
This offer is valid in PUMA stores and on all new products; and PUMA.com from 25th 
Oct 2018 onwards.
