Causticum.
A clear liquid, distilled from a mixture of Caustic Lime and bisulphate of
Potash (See Hahnemann's direction for preparing it), is mixed with an equal
part of Alcohol. Chemically and pathogenetically it is doubtless a solution of
Potassium hydrate.
General Effects :- º The general key to the action of Causticum is the same
as that to all the Potashes, namely, paralysis, slow pulse, low temperature,
etc. º Diuresis is a general concomitant.
Allies :- º Kali in general, Rhus t., Zinc., Sulph., Sep., etc.
Generalities :- º Spasm, when slumbering in evening he felt that he could
not move the tongue well, rose, cried out, but fell back again, stretched arms
and legs, then moved them, eyes were distorted, gnashed his teeth, saliva
flowed from mouth, with icy coldness, consciousness returned after half an
hour, with anxiety, transient thoughts, lolling tongue, all amel. a swallow of
cold water. º Spasm, in morning in bed heat, after rising cold sensation in the
arm in which he had at first a jerk, with twitchings in upper part of body, in
trunk and in arms, with full consciousness but with apprehension. º Spasm in
evening, vertigo as if turning involuntarily hither and thither, amel. open air,
with apprehension, stupid expression of face and heat over whole body.
º Falling suddenly without consciousness while walking in open air, but
immediately rising again. º Twitching here and there ; T. in right side of
body and in various other parts of skin. º Starting up frequently at night. º
Trembling ; in morning on waking ; after supper, with apprehension ;
anxious T. in morning and forenoon, with sleepy confusion of head, heavy
pressure in occiput and forehead, with heaviness of limbs, pain in joints and
muscles of fingers, arms, shoulder knees and feet.
º Sticking in nearly all parts ; now here, now there (after menstruation) ; or
contractive pain. º Tearings, especially in joints, or from them through
various bones, sometimes in several at once. º Pinching here and there ; and
in various parts of skin. º Drawing pain, especially above knees. º Drawings
in several parts, increasing to tearings. º Soreness as if bruised or pressed in
the side, hip and thigh on which he lay at night, with frequent necessity to
turn over. º Bruised pain in every part when touched (Arn.) ; general B. pain
when sitting, amel. working and in open air, especially in arms ; B. feeling

in whole right side. º Sensation of internal trembling.


º º Inability to lie still a moment at night (Rhus t.). º Uneasiness of body
while sitting, with anxiety about heart ; U. at night in bed, with anxious
weeping and indistinct talking ; when rising from a seat and when walking ;
in blood, with anxiety of mind and sudden sickness and weakness, so that
she must lie down, especially of head, like a painless burrowing.
º Weariness in morning on rising, and lack of cheerfulness ; all forenoon,
with feeling as if crushed ; at noon, amel. walking in open air ; in evening,
with sleeplessness till 1 A.M. and with heavy pain in legs ; after copious
micturition ; after slight effort ; after walking in open air, with disinclination
to work ; agg. evening, with general sick feeling, as if a severe illness were
imminent ; with sweat on beginning to walk ; with anxiety ; with sleepiness ;
faintlike ; in morning in bed, as if he would fall asleep again, amel. rising ;
after a short walk, so that he could not move his legs ; tremulous, after a
stool, with palpitation. º Sensation as if he would fall, without vertigo. º
Attacks of faintness after going to bed. º Stiffness of joints if she did not
move for a quarter of an hour. º Numbness and deadness of all soft parts on
left side, even in foot and head, as if there were no blood in the skin. º
Aggravation when walking in open air and in evening ; A. in open air ; A.
from coffee. º Amelioration in the room of the symptoms which originated
in the open air, except of the pain in forehead. º Sees only terrible vision and
distorted human faces when she closes the eyes.
Clinical :- º Children are slow in learning to walk. º Cracking in joints. º
The pains, neuralgic or rheumatic, make the patient very restless, but are
not amel. motion. º Chorea, especially affecting the muscles of the right
side and eyeballs. º Epileptiform spasms or chorea-like spasms, especially
at the time of puberty. º Patients requiring Caust. are always weak,
anæmic, have no desire and scarcely the ability to make an effort. º
General tendency to paralytic affection (like all the Potashes). º Paralysis
resulting from rheumatism, after diphtheria, etc.

Mind :- º Peevish ; during menstruation, with weariness ; and weeping


mood ; and self-absorbed ; takes no pleasure in music. º Morose silence ;
persistent silence. º Taciturn in forenoon and indifferent. º Sullen. º
Sensitiveness and inclination to anger, chilliness and on motion easily
heated. º Irritability, so that her knees sink under her at the slightest
vexation. º Sensitive, hot-headed and vehement. º Furiously opinionated and
quarrelsome. º Violent after midday sleep, with despondency. º Melancholy ;
before menstruation ; M., with prostration. º Sad weeping mood, full of
care. º Inclination to scold ; and make a disturbance, without being peevish. º
Discontented with herself, with gloomy looks. º Whining at every trifle (in a
child). º Sympathetic, beside herself with weeping and sobbing, and cannot
be contented when hearing of hardships.
º º Anxiety ; in morning on waking ; in evening, with unwillingness to go to
bed ; at night, with uneasiness, preventing sleep ; after stool, also with heat
in face and inclination to sweat ; with uneasiness as if something unpleasant
impended ; with sweat ; as if stupefied ; as if he had done something bad or
apprehended it, or as if he had been unfortunate. º Apprehension whenever

anything happens ; A. of evil, with urging to stool. º Frightful ideas in


evening. º Fear ; at night ; and anxiety, so that she did not wish to live ; of a
dog near by, so that she trembled, apprehension at every noise in the street
and when she saw boys climbing. º Thoughts of death, with uneasiness and
solicitude. º Disinclination to work. º Mirth alternating with depression. º
Joy alternating with peevishness. º Good humor in forenoon, with
talkativeness.
º º Inattention and distraction. º Absent-minded, with loss of ideas. º
Cloudiness. º Weakness of thought, slow succession of ideas. º
Mispronunciation of words and confusion of syllables and letters (E. g.,
"cluent foryza"). º Weakness of memory. º Coma.
Head :- º Involuntary nodding while writing, as if pressed down. º Stitches
in morning on waking and almost all day ; S., especially in orbits, all night,
amel. during the day ; S., with warmth in it. º Tearing. º Jerking-pinching
through H. º Screwings, amel. open air, with heaviness. º Aching caused by
hunger ; A. in whole brain on shaking head ; with nausea ; from all sides,
with pinching in ears and boring toothache ; deep-seated, with heaviness at
night as from an ulcer, compressive ; throbbing, with painful throbbing in
cerebral arteries. º Jerkings and beatings. º Painless digging in whole H.
º Confusion in morning, with coryza ; C., with heat in it ; painful tensive,
almost like throbbing headache, amel. eating ; all day, as if in a damp room
where clothes were washed and dried, agg. stooping, not amel. by walking
in open air, but on returning to the room. º Dullness all day after an
emission ; D., with a screwed together feeling, also amel. in open air ; with
intoxicated feeling and with redness of face. º Feeling of stupefaction and
drunkenness. º Rush of blood in evening ; R. after short walk in open air and
to face, with dim vision ; amel. open air, with sensation as if intoxicated ;
with heat in it. º Sensation as if brain were loose and shaken when walking
in open air.
º º Vertigo ; in morning on rising ; in morning on stooping, amel. rising ; in
morning on waking, with painful confusion of head ; at night on rising in
bed and lying down again ; during menstruation, agg. stooping, amel.
afternoon ; on fixing vision ; on looking up (to a high tower), so that he fell ;
while standing ; while standing and sitting, with heaviness of head ; while
sitting, as if he would stagger ; in open air, everything turned about with her
and persons seemed larger than usual ; amel. open air ; with anxiety of
whole body ; with weakness of head ; with falling down ; forward and
sideways ; as from compression of head ; as the spirituous drinks ; almost
like loss of consciousness, after walking, he nearly fell while sitting.
Forehead :- º Tensive stitching from lower part of F., to upper part of head ;
shifting slow S. above left eye. º Tearing in middle, during the day in a
heated room and in tobacco-smoke, agg. night, when it prevented sleep, and
in cervical vertebræ ; sticking, extending to right side through the whole
head. º Cutting in upper part of bone on violent motion of arms while
stooping. º Pain in right eminence ; sharp, in left side, sharp, after large flow
or urine ; extending to eyes ; twitching, in right side of F. and head ;

burning, as if forepart of brain were inflamed, after entering the house ; as if


something were forced in between frontal bone and cerebrum, or as if the
place behind frontal bone were hollow ; constrictive, in open air, agg. fast
walking, suddenly amel. stooping low ; stupefying, when sitting and
reading, not amel. walking or standing ; tensive and drawing, between eyes.
º Drawing in left side ; between eyes, with pressure ; painful, in forepart. º
Slow pressure above right orbit. º Tension and warmth in F. and nose, with
intermittent drawing in eyes. º Throbbing, agg. afternoon, with tension in
neck ; painful, in arteries above orbits ; painful, as with a dull point. º
Sensation as if everything in head would come out in front on stooping.
Temples :- º º Stitches ; in left bone, spreading in a circle. º Tearing in
right ; in left at 4 P.M. º Pain in right ; on upper margin of bone ;
pressing-out, with nausea and vomiting ; throbbing, in right on motion,
when quiet it is only a pressive pain ; drawing, gradually increasing to its
highest and then disappearing. º Tension in right as if paralyzed, and in eye.
Vertex :- º Sticking-tearing on left side. º Pain as if brain were torn or
shattered, agg. morning on waking. º Pain on pressure or touch. º Bruised
pain in a spot on touch. º Sudden pressure in region of coronal suture as
from a sharp stone falling on it. º Paroxysmal throbbing mingled with
stitches ; T. as if everything would be forced out, in morning after rising. º
Frequent drawing in left side.
Sides :- º Stitch in right ; in left evenings. º Tearing in left ; in left,
especially in forehead and temple, beginning in evening and constantly
increasing, with swelling of painful side. º Pain in right, extending into eye ;
in right parietal bone and in both temples. º Tension in left.
Occiput :- º Stitches. º Sudden pain in bone while sitting as if something in
muscles had been displaced. º Throbbing pain on right side, which on
rubbing extends towards vertex, where it pains as if beaten. º Drawing pain ;
in right side ; beginning in open air, agg. rapid walking, and in muscles of
right side of neck. º Sensation in bone as if numb, pithy and dead.
Scalp :- º Hair falls out. º Movements towards forehead. º Tension. º Pain
when rubbed. º Sensation of trembling or shaking in skin of right temple till
lying down. º Creeping sensation on vertex. º Itching ; stinging, on various
parts, in parietal bones, on forehead, right cheek, behind left zygoma,
extending towards ear and upward to temporal bone ; on right side,
transiently amel. scratching ; on right temple, amel. scratching.
Eyes :- º Inflammation, with burning and pain ; I., with pressure in them
during the day and agglutination in morning. º Tearing and pressure. º Pain
agg. touch. º Pressure in morning before he can open them, amel. closing
them again ; as from sand (Nat. m.) ; in left as if it would be pressed out ; as
if they were pressed inward and tried to come out ; internal, as if it would be
distended ; in right as from swelling of lids, which are really red, with
lachrymation. º Rubbing as of sand. º Burning (Zinc.) ; from 4 P.M. till
evening, with dryness ; from 6 to 8 P.M. ; with stinging, dryness and
photophobia. º Dryness ; in morning (Zinc.), with stiffness, then

lachrymation. º Biting, with pressure and heaviness and with redness of


lids ; B. as from salt. º Itching, especially of lids, in left, amel. rubbing ; of
right, amel. rubbing, then lachrymation. º Weakness. º Lachrymation ; agg.
open air.
º Distending pain in right ball. º Itching of right ball in morning. º Pupils
dilated ; contracted, then dilated.
Lids :- º º Involuntary closure (Rhus t., Sep.). º Agglutination in morning. º
Inflammation, with hard matter between lashes. º Twitching, and of left
brow. º Swollen sensation, agg. morning. º Pressure in upper as if a stye
would appear. º Burning in left ; B. pain on margins, as from burning with
gunpowder. º Smarting in left. º Biting. º Itching on lower and on its inner
surface, with burning as soon as he touches the eye or moves it. º Heaviness
of upper, as if he could not raise it easily (Rhus t.), or as if it were
agglutinated to lower and could not be easily loosened. º Sensation as if they
would close from weakness (Rhus t., Gelsem.). º Difficulty in opening, agg.
morning, with swollen sensation.
Canthi :- º Dry matter. º Drawing in right outer, extending into wing of
nose. º Burning in inner. º Itching sore pain right inner in morning after
waking, as from salt, agg. rubbing, so that lachrymation is produced. º
Itching in left inner, amel. rubbing ; in right inner, with lachrymation ; in left
inner like flea-bites ; voluptuous, in right.
º Twitching in left brow. º Drawing in arch of right brow. º Pressure in orbits
and behind eyes ; over right eye as if upper lid would be pressed down.
º º Photophobia, with constant necessity to wink ; P., with pain on motion. º
Far-sighted. º Blackness before eyes. º Some letters become invisible while
reading. º Dimness of vision ; on blowing nose ; agg. wiping and rubbing ;
agg. looking at a light ; with sensation as if something came from head into
left eye, and the light looked as if there were many points of light in a black
circle ; when standing, as from a veil ; as from a cloud in morning after
waking, amel. washing ; as if a membrane were drawn over eyes ; as if a
membrane wee drawn from inner canthus over half the pupil, in morning
when blowing nose. º Vision flickering ; and confused on looking long at an
object, then pain in eyes, as from swarms of insects ; like a veil. º V. of
sparks if he winks, even in daylight ; V. of sparks in daylight. º Small, round
objects pass before his vision while lying.
Clinical :- º Blepharitis, amel. open air. º Paralysis of muscles of the
eye, especially of upper lid. º Weakness of the muscles of the eyeball,
causing asthenopia, amounting even to paralysis, especially with feeling
of sand in eyes. º Has arrested cataract in some cases. º Frequent sudden
loss of sight as from a mist (muscular asthenopia). º Double vision from
paralysis of the ocular muscles ; vision worse on turning eyes to the right.
º Ptosis after catching cold (Rhus).

Ears :- º Swelling of external, with contractive pains ; S. of meatus, with


twinging earache and discharge of bloody matter. º Suppuration and
discharge from within, with offensive odor. º Stitches on outer margin, agg.

evening in bed, with burning pain ; boring knifelike, externally behind left,
with sudden general sweat ; paroxysmal, in right ; intermittent, in right
mastoid process ; tearing, with roaring, as from a storm of wind.
º Tearing in left ; beneath left at 4 P.M. ; in drum, with tensive confusion of
head. º Sensation as if everything were dragging outward and as if they
would burst, like a tearing mingled with itching. º Twinging. º Boring in
right ; in fossa below right, then on pressure bruised pain ; behind left at one
time, at another pulsating-throbbing. º Pain in mastoid process ; in right
meatus in evening ; in meatus on cleaning, as if sore and ulcerated.
º Sensation internally of jerking outward. º Tension behind. º Sensation of
contraction in left and in whole side of head in evening when lying, with
inability to sleep upon that side, and when touched (but amel. pressure)
sensation as if flesh had been separated from bone. º Crawling in left, with
itching-biting. º Itching in left ; stickling, in front of right meatus. º
Sensation as if cold wind were blowing into right meatus. º Air rushes in
during eructations. º Stopped sensation mornings ; S. sensation in right.
º º Re-echoing of her own words and steps ; of sounds, with difficult
hearing ; every morning. º Roaring before E. ; in right ; in each alternately
in evening before sleep. º Rushing sound as of a waterfall, with difficult
hearing. º Thundering tones in right. º Ringing in left ; in front of right in
evening. º Singing as of distant crickets, then throbbing, then singing again. º
Whistling in left.
Clinical :- º Chronic inflammation of the middle ear. º Buzzing, roaring
in ears, with re-echoing of sounds (in Meniere's disease), (Compare with
Nat. sul.). º Burning heat of ears after a frost-bite and rheumatism. º
Unnatural accumulation of wax in ears.

Nose :- º Hairs in nostrils fall out. º Swelling in morning, amel. evening. º


Cutting tearing through right wing. º Soreness internally. º Septum painful to
touch. º Sore pain in lower part, as in severe coryza. º Burning in nostrils, as
in coryza. º Itching internally ; as before coryza. º Tickling in left nostril,
amel. external pressure. º Frequent sneezing ; in morning ; ineffectual
attempts at S.
º Coryza, with inability to speak aloud ; C., with cough and scraping in
larynx ; with cough, pain in chest, drawings in limbs, frequent waking at
night and chilliness ; stopped ; stopped, when lying, with nightly dryness of
throat ; stopped and fluent, with rawness in throat and smarting in chest
caused by cough ; fluent, in morning, with agglutination of eyes ; fluent,
with painful cough at night and headache. º Discharge of offensive mucus,
with sneezing. º Watering after drinking. º Bleeding ; from left nostril ;
blows out blood, every morning. º Loss of smell, with stoppage.
Clinical :- º Dry catarrh, with stoppage. º Fluent coryza, with acute
inflammation of larynx and trachea. º Ulcers and crusts in tip of nose.

Face :- º Pale, with suffering expression. º Yellow ; during menstruation. º


Discolored, yellowish about temples, pale bluish lips. º Sickly look. º

Swelling of cheeks, with throbbing pain. º Stickings in cheek, over lower


jaw. º Tearing in left cheek-bone ; T. in cheeks, with sticking. º Drawing
pain in right cheek, then in ear. º Burning pain in cheeks, in front of ears, as
if an eruption would appear. º Throbbing in cheeks, with twitching of their
muscles.
Lips :- º Swelling of lower, and papulous eruption, with sticking and
crawling in it. º Papules in left corner, with crawling sticking. º Tetter on
lower. º Ulcer on inside of upper, with burning pain. º Vesicles in right
corner, painful when eating. º Soreness of left corner. º Pain as if sore. º
Tearings. º Spasmodic sensation.
Jaws :- º º Tension and pain, so that they were difficult to open, with
difficulty in eating because a tooth seemed too long. º Difficulty in
opening, with sensation as if throat below jaw were swollen or tense. º
Tearing in right lower. º Prickling-digging in lower. º Pain in right joint (in
"Hahnemann's Materia Medica Pura" it is left.) ; rheumatic in lower ;
burning, in lower. º Drawing first from right, then from left ramus towards
the chin and thence back again in direction of angle of mouth.
Chin :- º Tearing in middle of bone ; T. on lower part. º Burning-cutting in
right side, as if a piece of glass were cutting outward. º Tensive drawing
pain in lower part.
Clinical :- º Facial neuralgia at every change of weather. º Paralysis of
face from taking cold, with hemiplegia. º Acne rosacea. º Rheumatism in
the articulation of the lower jaw.

Mouth :- º
Teeth :- º Looseness of some ; of incisors ; painful L. of incisors. º Stitches ;
on biting on them ; on opening mouth ; in upper back, extending upward ; in
lower back, extending downward. º Tearing in diseased root of a left lower ;
T. in last left upper back, at 2 P.M., agg. open air ; in both right rows,
extending into zygoma, with bruised pain in both right jaws on pressure and
on chewing ; extending into head and left eye ; in all in forenoon, as if they
would fall out ; intermittent, in roots of lower in morning. º Boring in a
lower molar, extending to nose and eyes. º Prickling-digging in lower
back, extending to ear. º Pain ; with much spitting of saliva ; in a right back ;
in a sound one on drawing in cold air ; consisting of pressing-tearing and
sticking combines, with erysipelatous swelling of cheek and a swollen
suppurating pimple on gum ; jerking ; throbbing, with painful gum, so that
he could not chew ; throbbing, in a diseased back T. º Toothache as if
ulcerating, at night and during the day when she moves the mouth. º Pain as
if sore, in morning, then throbbing, the pain amel. bleeding of gum. º
Drawing toothache ; in left lower, from articulation to chin, in afternoon ;
with itching between teeth ; in right second molar, more in external surface,
and extending into temples. º Burning pain in hollow T. while eating and
drinking. º Pressure from without in roots of both anterior upper molars. º
Sensitiveness to touch ; S. of T. and gums in morning. º Peculiar sensation in
roots, so that he must gnash the teeth.

Gums :- º º Swelling ; in front and behind, with pain ; of left side, with
sensitiveness while eating and with spasmodic pain in evening ; with
excoriation of pudenda on urinating. º Bleeding. º Drawing pain in lower. º
Sensitiveness without pain in teeth.
Tongue :- º Vesicles on margin ; painful V. ; painful on tip. º T. and back
part of mouth threw off a thick and tough membrane. º Sore pain on and
beneath T. and on palate. º Pain on left side as if bitten. º Pain as if burnt on
tip and margin. º Scraping, then roughness of mouth as if covered with a
skin ; burning S. on tip, as if burnt, with salivation and burnt taste. º Burning
on tip. º Dryness, with thirst.
º º Epidermal coating of mouth and fauces abraded ; in morning, but partly
hanging in large pieces, the mucous membrane itself swollen and loose,
tongue scarlet, papillæ swollen, arch of palate and uvula swollen and dark
red, in mouth and fauces sensation of glowing coals, with constant pressure
to swallow and hawk, which increased the pain, discharge of much saliva
and mucus, voice hoarse and nasal, disposition bordering on desperation,
with febrile symptoms, rapid pulse and unquenchable thirst.
º º Sore, painful spot on hard palate. º Swelling of inside of cheek, which he
bites when chewing. º Mouth open at night, causing dryness. º Stitches in
left side of palate. º Pain in mouth, œsophagus and epigastric region ;
anteriorly on palate, as if suppurating, when touched with tongue. º Burning
scraping. º Burning on palate, with soreness. º Crawling posteriorly on
palate, with burning pricking. º Dryness at night ; all forenoon, without
thirst ; and on lips, without thirst ; with thirst ; burning. º Salivation ; when
walking after eating, with moisture in nose ; rancid ; watery, in forenoon,
with nausea.
º Taste of food remains long after eating ; T. for food diminished. º Fatty. º
Bitter. º Offensive ; afternoons, as from a disordered stomach. º Viscid,
glutinous.
Clinical :- º Violent toothache from taking cold, even in sound teeth,
from cold air. º Painful looseness and elongation of teeth. º Gums bleed
easily, and are swollen. º Dental fistula.

Throat :- º Painful swelling of left submaxillary gland. º Distention of left


side, with suffocative sensation and necessity to loosen the neck-band. º
Audible cracking, deep-seated. º Mucus after eating ; clots of M. ; after
dinner which he cannot loosen by hawking, but he is obliged to swallow it.
º Hawking of mucus ; in morning ; from 5 P.M. till night, with soreness and
burning in throat ; every half hour of mucus, which immediately
accumulates again ; with pain in pit of throat.
º Torn sensation, not on swallowing, but on making an exertion with head

Sensation of tightness and suffocation, obliging him to loosen the


neck-band. º Rawness, with tickling and with dry cough and expectoration
only after long coughing ; R., with heartburn ; with hoarseness and sore
pain ; with oppression of chest and febrile coldness ; and, when breathing,
sensation as if he had inspired too little air. º Scraping, agg. evening and
swallowing ; S., with clawing and with heartburn. º Scraping-clawing, with
sensation on swallowing as of a lump. º Burning.
º Soreness ; behind palate ; from morning till afternoon, amel. dinner, with
stitches, so that he could scarcely swallow ; as if attachments of tongue had
grown fast ; as from a lump, with sticking ; burning-sticking, agg.
swallowing, and on uvula. º Dryness in morning ; D. when swallowing, then
scraping down throat ; of back part ; in forenoon, with dry hacking cough ;

causing headache, amel. eating ; but food is not relished. º Appetite, but
without having aversion to food it seemed as if she did not dare to eat. º
Little appetite, but food is relished ; little A. but much thirst, agg. eating. º
Satiety, then hunger ; speedy S. if she attempted to eat without being
hungry. º Appetite disappeared when beginning to ear ; A., but when eating
aversion to food. º Aversion to food, even when beginning to eat ; A. to
sweets. º Can eat only smoked meats, vomiting on eating fresh meat. º

º Bruised pain ; on pressure. º Rhythmical chilling pressure in pit, as from
ice. º Tensive pain in pit. º Contractive sensation in epigastric region. º The
tightness of clothes about stomach and hips is very oppressive. º Heartburn
after supper ; H. in mouth ; burning rising from stomach, as if he had eaten
pepper. º Sensation as if disordered, with distention of abdomen. º It seems
as if she would constantly eructate, which does not happen, but all manner
of troubles is caused thereby. º Sensation of fasting. º Emptiness at 4 P.M. º
Crawling in epigastric region. º Pleasant warmth, and in abdomen. º
Weakness.
Clinical :- º Acid dyspepsia, sour vomiting and sour eructations. º
Gastralgia, colic and distension of abdomen.

Abdomen :- º Jerking at night, with uneasiness, preventing sleep until


midnight. º Twitching contraction at noon. º Distention all afternoon, with
frequent loud emissions of flatus, which relieved only for a short time ; D. in
evening, also with hardness ; after eating ; after eating and drinking, with
uneasiness and drawing in it ; agg. evening ; with cramps ; with internal
pressure, agg. deep breathing. º Rumbling after eating, with distention ; then
frequent emissions of flatus ; and croaking, as of frogs ; when sitting, as
from emptiness. º Moving about, amel. soft, brown stool, with cutting. º
Accumulation of flatus, with hard stool ; A. of much F. after a slight meal,
on account of which the hæmorrhoids protrude, are painful and moist. º
Emissions of flatus ; after breakfast ; upward and downward ; loud, all the
afternoon ; offensive.
º Sticking in whole A. at 4 P.M., S. preventing sitting. º Pain during
menstruation, as if everything were torn apart, with bruised pain in sacrum
and discharge of large clots. º Cutting in morning, then three soft stools, and
all day sensation in abdomen as of diarrhœa ; C. on appearance of menses,

before menstruation, and on first day of it ; when breathing, as if constricted
by a string.
º Tension at 7 P.M., with distension, causing difficult breathing, with
frequent passage of flatus ; contractive T., and in stomach. º Emptiness,
amel. pressure. º Electric shocks, extending to fingers and bending the
fingers. º Pulsations. º Crawling, with moving about, as after a purgative. º
Coldness internally, with cracking and crackling ; becomes cold easily, it air
touches it he has pressure in stomach and diarrhœa.
Upper abdomen :- º Cutting in a streak, amel. dinner, with soft stool at 11
A.M. º Frequent griping. º Burning pain about epigastric region, waking him.
º Contractive sensation. º Tension, with pressure.
Hypochondria :- º Distension of left. º Stitches in left ; beneath last right
true ribs ; below right ribs in evening ; in hepatic region in afternoon ; in a
spot in hepatic region when riding, and touch caused a stinging, with
sleepiness and general weariness. º Tearing in liver in evening. º Tensive
pain in liver when lying on back. º Burning pain in left.
Umbilicus :- º Swelling, with pain about it when touched. º Griping, in
morning, amel. rising. º Crawling, with sensation as before diarrhœa.
Sides :- º Distention in left, extending into groin. º Stitches in left ; in right
in evening ; in right when lying ; in right, then bruised pain in left lower
ribs, also noticed upon pressure ; in right, extending through and through
bowels and out at small of back. º Cutting in right ; with pinching, as in
diarrhœa. º Griping in right, below navel, after eating. º Bruised pain in
right ; then sticking outward through pudenda. º Sticking burning in right,
with sensation as if something would be loosened. º Tension in right.
Hypogastrium :- º Twitching in left side when sitting bent. º Stitches below
last false ribs, above ilium ; above left hip, extending to left false ribs ; in
right groin, extending downward, as if a hernia would appear, after
breakfast ; as with an awl in right groin, amel. rubbing. º Deep-seated pain,
at last with fever, heat, anxiety and restlessness, so that he could not sleep at
night nor lie, and pain on touch, as in inflammation of abdomen ; P. above
left hip as if it would burst there on coughing ; as from a weight. º Bruised
pain in left groin at 2 P.M. when walking ; in right groin, at first amel. then
agg. pressure, with stitches. º Dragging in inguinal regions, extending
forward, while sitting, with ineffectual urging to urinate.
Rectum :- º º Frequent, sudden pressing-piercing pain. º Sticking during
stool. º Cramp, obliging her to sit still. º Sensation of something hard in it,
like a kernel of fruit. º Pressure all day ; agg. after stool, and in anus. º
Dragging, as if fæces should be expelled. º Urging to stool, with rumbling in

Anus :- º º Hæmorrhoids, with sore pain, unendurable on walking or
reflecting ; swollen H., with itching-sticking and much moisture ; hard H.,
stinging-burning, painful when touched (Æsc. h.), when walking, standing or
sitting, amel. stool ; impeding stool ; painful. º Stitching before a meal. º
Spasmodic drawing pain after coition. º Sore pain, with moisture. º Biting
pain after stool. º Burning during stool ; after stool, with depressed pulse and
palpitation ; after stool, making him powerless. º Itching (Æsc. h., Sulph.) ;
after dinner ; crawling. º Pain in perineum, with pulsation.
Clinical :- º Hæmorrhoids, intolerably painful, agg. walking. º Partial
paralysis or rectum, stool passed better when standing. º Pruritis of anus
and fistula.

Stool :- º Watery ; with stomachache. º Semi-fluid ; at 5 A.M. º Diarrhœa in


evening ; at night ; from taking cold in abdomen ; with tenesmus and
burning in anus ; with passage of blood ; with passage of flatus. º
Constipation. º Solid S. ; with passage of a round worm. º Nodular, with
mucus and clear blood, without trace of hæmorrhoids ; N., then contraction
of rectum, then soft stool, then in form like a goose-quill. º First hard, then
soft then dyspnœa, then distention of hypochondria, agg. right, with
pinching on every step. º Black, after the sweat. º Bloody, with burning and
soreness in rectum ; painless passage of blood, with a soft stool. º With
white mucus. º Passes better when standing. º Passes with sensation as if
only flatus passed.
Urinary Organs :- º Pain in bladder, with inability to pass urine, but if a
few drops pass he has pain in urinary passages, with constipation and cramp
in rectum. º Micturition so easy that he is not sensible of the stream, and
can scarcely believe in the dark that he is urinating until he makes sure
with the hand. º Involuntary M. while coughing or blowing nose (Zinc.) ;
I. at night in sleep. º Intermittent M. in evening. º Delay of last drops of
urine. º Enuresis, with violent erections without desire. º Frequent
micturition ; at night ; at night, and copious, with diarrhœa, which was
repeated in morning ; and copious ; and copious (Kali c.), soon depositing a
sediment like yeast ; F. and scanty.
Urethra :- º º Discharge of blood, with the ejaculation of semen during
coition. º Cutting. º Pain in evening after urinating, with aching in vertex. º
Burning ; when urinating ; after an emission ; when urinating, or at root of
urethra ; in region of frænum when urinating ; sudden, at night. º Itching in
orifice.
º Urging to urinate after a walk ; U., with necessity to wait long, then scanty
urine, then renewed urging. º Frequent urging ; at night, waking her ; with
involuntary dribbling of urine ; then shivering in open air. º Frequent,
ineffectual U., then while sitting involuntary micturition. º Ineffectual

much walking in order to relieve it) cramps in rectum.
Urine :- º Copious ; then scanty ; and slightly acid. º Scanty, with great
thirst. º Often dark brown. º Turbid on standing. º Reddish. º Clear, like
water. º Containing much tenacious mucus.
Clinical :- º Weakness of bladder. º Paralysis of bladder, the urine is
expelled very slowly and sometimes is even retained. º Weakness of the
sphincter of bladder, especially in children, the urine passes involuntarily,
especially during the first sleep at night, also involuntary from the
slightest excitement during the day. º Paralysis of bladder after labor, the
urine is retained.

Sexual Organs :- º Cutting in mons veneris, agg. walking. º Increased


smegma, much on corona glandis. º Red spots on penis. º Herpetic redness
of penis, with oozing on frænum of glans. º Vesicles under prepuce,
becoming suppurating ulcers. º Burning pain in penis. º Itching scurf on
inside of prepuce. º Itching of frænum ; on inner surface of prepuce, at one
time tickling, at another biting ; voluptuous, of penis, with incomplete
erection. º Erection in morning, with desire ; E. all the forenoon ; frequent,
incomplete, in morning after coition. º Impotence. º Itching cutting in
septum of scrotum. º Itching of scrotum and on skin of penis ; of scrotum
and sweating. º Stitches in right testicle. º Tearing in testicles. º Pain in
testicles at noon ; in right T. as if crushed. º Desire ; with disinclination to
work ; very little. º Discharge of prostatic fluid after stool. º Irritation to
emission. º Frequent emissions at night and next forenoon, with constant
excessive erections ; frequent E. in an old man ; E. every night and during
afternoon nap in one who was impotent.
Female :- º Burning. º Biting in pudenda as from salt during and after
micturition. º Leucorrhœa flowing like menses and of same color (Zinc.) ; L.
at night (Nat. m.). º Uterine spasm, amel. application of warm stones, pain
now in stomach, now in chest, now in small of back, obliging her to bend
forward, with intolerance of clothing on epigastric region, pain in abdomen
and stomach from even the most digestible food, fulness as if abdomen
would burst and ineffectual desire to eructate. º Menstruation delayed ; too
soon ; no discharge at night (Puls.) ; offensive and causing itching in
pudenda ; copious. º Intermittent traces of bloody discharge for many days
after menstruation had ceased.
Clinical :- º Uterine inertia during labor (Kali carb.). º Post-partum
hæmorrhage from inertia of uterus. º Leucorrhœa especially agg. night,
with great weakness.

Respiratory Organs :- º º Dryness ; of larynx. º Pain in larynx in blowing


nose. º Drawing in larynx. º Frequent need to clear something out of L. º
Irritation in L. as in beginning of cold, with general febrile excitement. º
Muscles of L. do not perform their function and inability to speak a
loud word. º Hoarseness (Kali bi.) ; agg. morning and evening, with
scraping in throat ; in morning, with rawness in throat. º Stoppage of voice
every morning, as if there were a wedge in larynx which should be

amel. during the day, with much expectoration ; always caused by
speaking ; caused by crawling in larynx or by stooping to pick up anything ;
caused by incessant crawling ; on becoming warm after being cold ; agg.
after eating, with expectoration of mucus. º Tickling cough. º Paroxysmal C.,
caused by tickling of mucus in throat. º Violent C., even at night ; at times
dry, with pain in right side of abdomen. º Hollow C., agg. night and
morning, with adherent mucus in chest, in which there is sticking, soreness
and ulceration, with and without coughing, with stopped coryza. º Dry
hollow C., in paroxysms, with a sore streak down trachea, where it pains
on every paroxysm of cough and almost prevents breathing. º Dry cough at
night, disturbing sleep ; C., with scraping in throat, without expectoration ;
causing burning in chest ; racking, in morning on waking and preventing
him from sleeping again. º Hacking C., with difficult breathing ; dry H.
cough and only seldom some expectoration of mucus. º Hoarse C., agg.
morning and evening, amel. night. º Irritation to cough, even in morning in
bed ; I., with every expiration. º Expectoration of tough mucus, at first
difficult, then easy to loosen.
º Suffocation in attacks during inspiration while sitting, as if some one
grasped the trachea. º Arrest of breath while speaking or walking rapidly,
with necessity to suddenly catch for breath ; sudden A. when hunting, with
rapid palpitation, necessity to kneel, general sweat, shortness of breath, rush
of blood to head, bluish-red color of face, as if he would have apoplexy. º
Want of breath, with weakness of thighs. º Dyspnœa after lying down ; agg.
sitting ; spasmodic. º Inspiration difficult and deep. º Short breath in
morning, with pain in abdomen ; S. when walking in open air ; with
oppression of chest ; then paroxysms of cough.
Clinical :- º Acute laryngitis, loss of voice and rawness and soreness in
larynx and trachea (Bell. and Benzoin.). º Sudden aphonia after taking
cold. º Paralysis of vocal cords. º Loss of voice in singers and speakers. º
Cough, agg. warmth of bed, amel. sips of cold water. º Cough, with
sensation as if he "could not get under the mucus" to raise it. º Constant
hacking cough, with involuntary micturition. º Expectoration as a rule
scanty, must be swallowed, excessive rawness in chest on coughing,
especially under sternum.

Chest :- º º Rattling when coughing (Ant. t.). º Stitches on walking in open


air ; S. beneath skin ; in region of right clavicle ; in left breast below nipple
in left side opposite ensiform cartilage ; in left side, on a level with pit of
stomach ; in first left false ribs ; below left female breast at 5 P.M., amel.
rubbing ; deep in C. in forenoon on deep respiration ; beneath left breast
during menstruation ; above heart on motion ; in left after eating ; in left
when coughing ; in right side on inspiration ; in sternum on deep breathing
and on lifting ; in sternum on physical exertion ; below sternum on

knife-like, anteriorly in left side, piercing through to back, at night, with
anxiety, restlessness and sleeplessness.
º Tearing in forepart, agg. open air ; sticking, in left side. º Cutting in
morning, with burning. º Pressure ; above pit of stomach ; by left lowest rib ;
on right side ; on right side in evening ; with difficult or short breathing ; in
intercostal muscles, transversely across chest, on stooping ; in upper part of
ensiform cartilage, extending upward ; sharp, after dinner, agg. walking. º
Pain in right side as if lung were loosened from pleura, even when lying ;
rheumatic P., and in abdomen. º Bruised pain in muscles, agg. pressure ; B.
pain below right mamma, not affected by breathing. º Sprained pain in left
lower muscles on moving left arm. º Burning pain, and sometimes stitches. º
Drawing pain internally in upper part after immoderate running or singing,
with heaviness. º Sore pain when coughing.
º Scraping. º Rawness in morning. º Anxiety in evening after stool, with
distention of abdomen. º Tightness ; with frequent necessity to take a deep
breath. º Sensation as if clothes were too tight. º Painful compression from
both sides towards sternum, with oppression of breath and weakness of
voice. º Constriction, with hoarseness and rawness of throat. º Oppression in
afternoon, amel. dancing ; O. (bronchi) after eating ; of both sides as if
pressed together. º Rushing in region of heart mornings, until rising, amel.
motion, returning when lying. º Heat internally ; rising into throat.
Clinical :- º Nipples sore and cracked.
Heart and Pulse :- º Oppression of H., with melancholy. º Palpitation in
morning, with irregular pulse and pain in back ; P. in evening, with anxiety,
which made the breath short ; with weariness ; anxious, with rhythmical
constriction of abdomen. º Pulse small (almost thready) and slow.
Neck :- º Jerking motion, bear head. º Stitches at night when lying. º
Pinching in right side. º Bruised pain. º Tensive pain, extending to head. º
Tension of muscles on becoming suddenly erect or on turning head. º
Tensive sensation in nape as if drawn backward by both ears. º Stiff pain in
right side. º Stiffness, so that he could not move head (Zinc.) ; S. of N. and
throat, with pain in occiput, and bound feeling in muscles, so that he could
not move the head ; of right side, with tensive pain.
Back :- º Stitches ; when sitting ; then pain. º Sticking piercing-jerking, and
in sacrum, arresting breath. º Tearing in a spot. º Pain during menstruation. º
Pain like a drawn and beaten sensation, then extending into small of B. and
thence into abdomen, where there is flatulence, with pain, then discharge of
flatus and leucorrhœa. º Crawling. º Pulsation in middle.
Scapulæ :- º Stitches in left ; near right when swallowing and hawking and

everything would come out of rectum and pudenda, like flatulent colic (from

Extremities :- º Twitchings in evening. º Stitches in joints after taking cold.

in persons who suffer from great weakness of the limbs, agg. east wind,

Axilla :- º Glands swollen. º Stitches near, extending towards breast.
Shoulder :- º Stitches on top ; in left ; tearing, in right, extending into hands.
º Tearing in joint of left ; in right at 6 P.M. if she moves right arm or turns
head to right, with bruised pain on inner border of right scapula, but if she
turns to the left the place feels tense. º Pressure upon. º Pain on moving right
arm ; in left as if dislocated, from morning till evening ; in joint and in
elbow as if asleep, at night, waking her frequently, agg. morning after
waking ; paralytic, in left. º Goutlike drawings here and there, agg. motion,
and in elbow and wrist. º Stiffness.

Arm :- º Spasmodic flexion of left at times. º Confusions up and down left


(which is weaker) and exertion, then heaviness of arm, then rumbling down
muscles, extending into bone, as from crawling of a mouse, with which the
twitches disappear. º Trembling of right if he holds anything at arm's length.
º Inclination of right to cramp, waking before midnight, with crawling as if
asleep. º Stitches, extending into left side of chest. º Tearing, and in hand ;
extending into back ; in left, and in shoulder-joint. º Pain in right. º Drawing
pain in muscles ; in bones at night, preventing sleep. º Drawing in right, with
paralytic heaviness. º Weakness of right, with crawling in front of both
shoulders ; W. of right, almost like paralysis, agg. writing, with stiffness. º
Heaviness, with weakness ; H. of right, as from a blow upon thick part of
forearm. º Stiffness of left when holding it upright for a long time, with
sensation as if the blood flowed back into it, with pain in right side of chest
as from contraction of muscles ; inclination of left to become stiff, waking

Upper Arm :- º Stitches in right on raising arm ; S. ear left shoulder ; on
inner margin of right ; in upper part of right, amel. rubbing ; in right at night
in bed, preventing motion ; in deltoids if she caries anything ; outward in left
humerus near its head. º Tearing just below shoulder-joints ; T. at night in
warmth of bed, especially in shoulder-joint ; in left humerus, extending to
elbow, in which it is most painful. º Drawing cutting in right deltoid. º
Pinching in deltoid, with coldness that ends in burning. º Bruised pain in
flesh. º Drawing pain in left humerus ; now in one, now in other deltoid,
extending to clavicle.
Elbow :- º Quivering externally when leaning upon arm. º Boring in tip of
left at 4 P.M., with sensation as if it would force him to bend the arm. º
Bruised pain ; in bend, agg. pressure. º Drawing pain, and in forearms. º Pain
in bend of left on stretching arm, as if a tendon were too short.
Forearm :- º Swelling, as if on periosteum, painful when pressed. º
Trembling of right while writing, with twitching. º Stitches along tendons on
inner surface of right ; drawing, in muscles in lower part of right. º
Tearings ; in tendons of right ; in left, from elbow downward ; throbbing, in
left. º Boring in a spot below right elbow as if in bone, at 4 P.M., with
tearing. º Drawing pain in muscles of lower part of left. º Contractive pain in
muscles of lower part of left. º Paralytic pain in right ulna. º Paralysis, with
difficulty in raising it on account of heaviness and stiffness.
Wrist :- º Sticking in right as if sprained, when at work ; crawling sticking
in right, and in second and third fingers. º Tearing in right ; on back of right,
extending into middle finger, with pinching. º Pain in right as if sprained or
dislocated. º Drawing pain ; from right into fingers ; in bones, through
metacarpal bones into little finger, where it is worse in tip, agg. stretching
hand, when fingers are involuntarily drawn together, then the drawing
extends from bones of wrist into the other fingers and they all become bent ;
drawing pain in left, from within outward.
Hand :- º Swelling at night, with crawling in them. º Trembling. º Stitches in

Fingers :- º Twitchings when writing ; drawing, in left. º Stitches in little,
then extending upward like knife-stitches, with apprehension and aching
about heart. º Tearing ; in left index ; in joints of right index, with pain on
pressure ; in left middle, at 3 P.M., with pinching ; in tips of all, with
trembling of hands. º Pain under nails when touched. º Drawing pain in
joints ; left. º Burning pain under nails, but when touched pain as if
suppurating ; shooting-burning pain in joints. º Crushed pain in tip of right
little ; in tips, as if they would burst, now of one hand, now of other. º
Throbbing pain as from an ulcer in proximal joint of right thumb. º Tension
in knuckles of last joints on bending in forenoon. º Numbness, with loss of
sensation and with tension. º Deadness, amel. morning ; seem dead,
icy-cold, white and without sensation.
Lower Extremities :- º Tottering from side to side when walking, with
sensation as if he staggered more than he really did, without vertigo. º
Stitches, first from hip-joint and then from patella downward, agg. rest. º
Weariness from afternoon till evening, especially in legs and knees. º Numb
or bruised pain in nates when sitting.
Hip :- º Stitches in joint every two minutes, extending towards abdomen ; in
left as if in bone. º Tearing in joint ; when sitting and walking, and down
whole leg ; in left as if in bone, and on pressure bruised pain. º Pinching in
region ; above joint, with twinging and with coldness that ends in burning. º
Pain above joint ; paroxysmal, in left joint, as if sprained or dislocated,
causing lameness ; drawing pain when sitting and walking ;
prickling-burning in region.
Thigh :- º Twitchings above knee. º Stitches in left ; in bend of right ; on
outer surface of right, just above knee ; in left in evening when walking,
extending into chest. º Tearing in middle of left, amel. rising from a seat ;
scraping in left ; paralytic T. on outer surface of right. º Bruised pain in
morning in bed, and in legs. º Jerking pain from nates downward. º
Trembling or throbbing sensation in flesh, like a painful tingling. º Tension
in bend of right in morning on rising, and on bending knee. º Beatings in
tendons above bend of left knee. º Weariness when walking, and in leg ; W.,
with want of breath ; in upper part, from without inward, agg. rest. º
Paralyzed feeling when sitting and walking.
Knee :- º º Cracking when walking ; painful, when walking, as if it would be
broken or sprained. º Jerking in left in afternoon. º Stitching when at work. º
Tearing in right ; on outer side of left ; in patella at night, preventing sleep ;
in left, extending through toes ; with stitches, so that he could not step and

worse when extending knees than when bending them. º Drawings. º
Tension in hollows when sitting or beginning to walk, amel. continued
walking. º Tensive pain in hollow when walking, with stiffness. º Weariness
after walking, with heaviness of foot ; W. agg. ascending steps ; so that they
knock under. º Stiffness of left when walking (Led.) ; stiff pain in patella
when rising. º Tingling, gone-to-sleep sensation in morning and in legs.
Leg :- º Varices. º Twitchings. º Trembling on beginning to ascend (E. g., on
a ladder), amel. standing still and working ; as from a chill when walking or
standing in open air. º Tearing down outer side of left from knee when
sitting, the pain extends into hip-joint on rising from seat, with bruised pain
in hip when walking and on pressure, not amel. when sitting ; burning, in
tibia. º Pain after copious micturition ; P. at night, extending into groins ;
down tibia. º Sprained or paralyzed pain in muscles in afternoon and
evening. º Pain as from a blow on right tibia. º Drawing pain ; as if in bones.
º Drawing in right in evening, with pain in throat ; cramplike, down outer
side of right when sitting or standing. º Uneasiness in evening ; in left at
night. º Weariness in morning on waking, amel. after rising. º Heaviness ; at
night in bed, and of feet. º Falling asleep.
Calf :- º º Cramp in morning in bed ; at night. º Intermittent stitches in left. º
Tearing in tendons beneath right ; down left ; and on dorsum of foot ; from
outer part of right to outer margin of foot, agg. moving foot or toes. º
Bruised pain in right all the forenoon, extending into and above knee. º
Contraction of right. º Tension as if some one forcibly contracted the skin,
from 7 to 8 P.M. º Drawing when rising from a seat and when walking, with
sensation as if right leg were too short. º Crawling in left, with prickling, as
if it would go to sleep.
Ankle :- º Tearing stitch, extending to knee and thence to hip-joint, but not
in the knee itself. º Tearing in outer malleolus in evening. º Pain when
walking as if sprained or as if it would be broken ; S. pain on a misstep or on
bending it from side to side, with cracking in joint. º Pain as if weary or
crushed when sitting after walking, amel. walking again. º Drawing pain
when sitting, with sensation on sitting as if leg would bend under. º
Drawing. º Stiffness.
Foot :- º Swelling, especially of anterior part, in evening, with heat and
internal itching, as if frozen, and on pressure pain as if suppurating. º
Cramp ; on stretching it ; in right sole and tendo-achillis on stretching them.
º Tearing in dorsum of left ; in ball behind great toe ; in inner margin of
right ; in inner margin, even in morning in bed ; in left tendo-achillis when
sitting ; sudden, in right heel. º Boring and burning pain in a corn. º Pressure
on dorsum. º Aching in solves like a nervous disease. º Drawing in right in
evening ; in tendons of right instep, extending into great toe, where it is only
felt on motion. º Tension in heel and tendo-achillis. º Weakness in morning

Numbness of heel when sitting, with pithiness.
Toes :- º Stitches in great ; in ball of great ; in a corn on little toe ; burning
in ball of great ; burning, beneath nail of left great. º Tearing in great ; in left
great towards tip ; on outer margin of right little ; on margin of little,
extending towards tip ; burning in second little ; burning, behind nails of
first and second. º Pain on posterior joint of great ; in great as if
suppurating ; as from inflammation behind nail of great ; in great as if burnt.
º Drawing during a storm, extending into thigh, with tearing. º Crawling in
left great, with sticking, as if it would go to sleep ; crawling falling asleep of
right big toe in afternoon.
Skin :- º Spotted on thighs and legs, full of dark red veins. º Red spot above
upper lip, which seems cracked and causes a burning pain ; painful red spot
on tibia, extending along length of leg, with itching when healing. º
Inflammatory swelling beneath chin, as if an abscess would form, with
burning pain. º Old liver-spots become elevated, with corrosive itching. º
Eruption in face ; more felt than seen. º Nettle-rash, especially just above
knees ; on neck, between scapulæ and on back. º Itching tetter on dorsum of
ring finger ; on nates ; on neck, with moisture. º Eruption of the size of
pin-heads, with hollow tip, without moisture on forehead, neck, scapulæ,
arms, hypogastrium, especially on thighs and in hollows of knees, with
itching, especially in warmth of bed, with burning after scratching, when not
warm scarcely noticeable, whitish, prominent on scratching, after scratching
a red spot with large areola.
º º Pimples on tip of nose ; at root of nose ; between eyebrows ; near upper
lip ; beneath left corner of mouth ; on right thumb ; behind right thumb ; on
index, becoming a wart ; tensive, on neck ; under skin on right side of body,
on chest, arm, back and bend of elbow, with stitching on touch and sore pain
on hard pressure, afterwards with pain and stinging when not touched. º
Itching P. on left cheek ; on forearms ; P. on various parts, with corrosive
itching, and after scratching burning. º Transparent crystalline P., rounded at
apex, itching, on hands, the second day, with red areola and filled with
milky liquid, the third day discharging pus and ulcerating, the fourth day
some desiccated, others ulcerated and coalesced and left a red spot.
º Eruption like chicken-pox (in an infant). º Red pustules on left side of
forehead, left temple, on nose and on middle of chin, with stinging when
touched and when healing covered with scurf. º Boil behind ear ; on back ;
on chin, near lower lip, with red areola ; near anus, painful, discharging pus
and blood. º Suppuration of left great toe-nail, with burrowing burning pain
and proud flesh. º Soreness between thighs ; painful, between female thighs ;
on thigh, near scrotum, as if excoriated, with itching, and after rubbing
smarting. º Vesicles on feet from rubbing ; on chest and back, with anxiety
of chest, and fever consisting of chill, heat and sweat ; painful, on left side
of chest and back, which burst, with fever, heat, sweat and anxiety ; on calf,
discharging water and healing without suppuration ; burning, in face,
exuding corrosive water when touched, afterwards drying into a scurf ;

thumb ; on heel ; on leg, with red, hard, inflamed areola, discharging more
blood than pus, of offensive odor, causing sleeplessness. º Ulceration again
of cutaneous wounds that had almost healed.
º Formication. º Crawling in thighs, legs and feet ; in left calf, extending to
knee ; in soles ; in ball of great toe ; on right forearm, amel. rubbing ;
between first and second phalanges of left ring finger, with twitching in
inner side of upper arm ; in right heel, amel. scratching, with itching, as if it
would go to sleep ; tingling burning, in soles. º Tickling in right sole, so that
she could not scratch it enough ; in toes, as if they had been frozen.
º º Itching over whole body ; in various parts ; on head ; forehead ; above
eyes ; in face ; tip and wings of nose ; on nose, chin and throat, below ears ;
about mouth about breasts ; on back ; on arms ; in hands ; of palms ; on
dorsum of left hand ; on last and middle joints of left fingers ; between
fingers ; on nates and back of thighs ; on thighs ; hips ; in hollow of right
knee ; of patella ; legs ; calves ; dorsum of foot ; on right heel ; over whole
body at night, with dry heat ; on thighs, perineum and scrotum, agg. night in
bed and in morning. º Itching, amel. scratching ; behind right ear ; on
eyebrows, left malar-bone, temples and ears ; in middle of left scapula ; on
back ; upper sternum ; right shoulder ; left axilla ; bend of left elbow ; left
forearm ; behind left ring and little fingers ; in bend of right knee, then on
tibia ; on right tibia. º Itching over whole body, not amel. scratching, with
redness like scarlet-rash and many vesicles. º I. on back, with sweat. º
Itching on lower part of forearms, burning after scratching, I. soon
reappears, and new vesicles constantly appear ; I. in palms and after
scratching itching vesicles ; I. in hollow of left hand, and after scratching
many itching vesicles containing water ; I. between first and second
phalanges of left index, and after scratching burning itching pimples ; I. on
forearms (sometimes with burning after scratching), with itching pimples
and vesicles ; I. on outer margin of left knee, then burning after scratching. º
Sticking itching over skin ; on index ; on right nates ; on thigh towards outer
part ; as from fleas, on back shoulders, arms and thighs, especially on
dorsum of fingers. º Corrosive itching on face, with rush of blood to it, with
heat and redness then many red pimples. º Burning itching near nose. º
Itching on lobule of ear as from a tetter. º Voluptuous itching of last joint of
great toe.
Clinical :- º General tendency to soreness in folds of skin, back of ears,
between thighs, etc. (Sul.). º Small flat warts. º Warts on fingers,
especially on tips and about nails. º Horny warts. º Horny growth on tip of
nose.

Sleep :- º º Yawning and stretching of limbs ; agg. night ; Y. in forenoon and


afternoon ; excessive, from 11 A.M. to 3 P.M., after intermittent hiccough ;
excessive, all the evening, without sleepiness. º Sleepiness in morning ; in
afternoon ; even when busy, with necessity to lie down ; when walking, agg.
when sitting ; but sleep was unrefreshing. º Sleep after dinner ; and is sleepy
early in evening. º Falls asleep while conversing. º Long sleep in morning. º

Difficult waking in morning.


º º Sleeplessness on account of dry heat ; every night after midnight on
account of general bruised pain ; every night after 2 o'clock. º Woke at 4
o'clock every night (in winter) and could hardly ever sleep again. º Falls
asleep late on account of heat. º Frequent waking ; with general sweat,
which increased on waking. º Frequent starting up in fright from sleep ;
starting up in fright on going to sleep. º Motions of arms and legs in sleep. º
Uneasiness all night, after a short sleep she was awakened by anxiety and
uneasiness, then necessity to sit up, with involuntary turning of head from
one side to other, until, being exhausted, she fell asleep again (Rhus t.,
Sul.) ; U. at night, then sweat in morning ; every night, with occasional
crying in sleep. º Whining, "come here, come here," after midnight in sleep.
º Loud laughing in sleep.
º Dreams, many. º Anxious. º Frightful, waking her and causing anxiety so
that she cannot sleep again. º Fretful ; and vivid. º Full of strife, with uneasy
sleep. º Sad, of dead acquaintances. º Confused. º Merry at first, then
confused, historical. º Lewd ; of beautiful girls, with emissions.
Fever :- º Chilliness ; at 4 P.M., with creeping in legs up into back and
weariness, then sweat without heat or thirst ; the first half of the night, then
heat, and towards morning moist skin, after which the first rest and sleep ; in
sleep towards morning ; after eating, also with hot face ; in open air after
dinner. º Sensitiveness to free air ; to cold air ; to a draught, which causes
pain. º Takes cold easily, with general chilliness from a slight draught. º
Chilliness, with yawning. º C., then heat in forehead. º C., then rising of heat
in head, with sweat in palms in a room. º Internal C. every day ; frequent
internal C., with cold hands and feet ; internal C. about midnight, especially
in arms and legs, with cutting in back, the general sweat, with tingling and
heaviness in head and necessity to lie until noon. º C., alternating with
sweat ; C., alternating with heat in face.
º Shivering chill ; at 7 A.M. in open air, amel. in room. º Shivering always on
waking at night ; in a room ; always on going into open air, with
gooseflesh ; general, as often as he lays down the left hand after motion ;
during pain in stomach. º Shivering chill, with gooseflesh ; and with urging
to stool, which is soft, accompanied by pinching in whole abdomen, then
general chill, with external coldness, then in the room internal warmth in
head.
º Chilliness of various parts. º Whole left side of body cold ; and gone to
sleep. º Coldness of right forearm and fingers, with stiffness ; C. of hands,
extending up left arm to elbow ; of hands ; of feet ; of soles. º In spine
between scapulæ, as from a wind. º Sensation as if cold water ran from right
clavicle across chest to toes. º Shivering over whole right side of body ; S.
from right temple through forehead, where it becomes a throbbing ; from
face over back to knee ; in neck in evening, extending into brain ; along
back ; in back in attacks, extending nearly all over abdomen ; now in arm,
now in leg, now general ; sudden from face over chest to knee.

sleep ; profuse, when walking in open air ; in attacks ; general sour, at
night ; on back and abdomen after walking.
