Borax.
Dilutions are made from a solution composed of one part dissolved in
ninety-nine parts of distilled water.
General Action :- º A tissue remedy, allied to the potashes and to Silicea. º
Its action on mucous membranes is marked by a tendency to aphthous
ulceration (Compare Mercury). º The peculiar nervous phenomena are very
characteristic and unlike any other remedy.
º Study in close relationship Silicea.
Generalities :- º º The infant became pale and nearly earthy-colored, flesh
soft and flabby, cries much, refuses the breast and screams out anxiously in
sleep. º General trembling, especially in hands, while meditating at his work,
with nausea and weakness of knees. º Restlessness ; while eating, amel.
stretching backward, with nausea ; after animated conversation, with nausea,
stupefaction and vertigo.
º Weakness ; with heaviness of feet ; with indolence, fretfulness, thirst after
the midday sleep, heat when walking in open air, sweat on head and face,
confusion of head, pressure in forehead and eyes, which pain on touch as if
sore, inclination to breathe deeply, and when doing so sticking in intercostal
muscles, with hard, quick pulse ; of joints ; especially in abdomen and
limbs.
Mind :- º Violence ; with scolding and swearing at trifles. º Fretfulness ;
every day at 4 P.M. ; in afternoon before the easy stool, with indolence and
discontent, after it liveliness, contentment and cheerfulness in regard to the
future ; F., with whining and crying. º Irritability during important business.
º Crying violently at intervals (in a child).
º º Anxiety increased till 11 P.M. with sleepiness, then vertigo and sleep ; A.
(In a child) when dancing and if rocked in the arms anxious expression of
face during the downward motion ; on riding down hill, feeling as if it
would take away his breath ; with rumbling in abdomen. º Fright, with
starting at a distant shot ; with starting in every limb on hearing an anxious
cry ; (in a baby) at hawking and sneezing ; on waking, the rustling of a
paper or dress or the slamming of a door would cause the child to start,
scream and seem badly frightened, when laying her down she would start
and throw up her hands as if afraid of falling, and some nights they could
Swollen, with pimples on nose and lips ; S., hot and red, with tearing in
malar-bone, and pain in the swelling when laughing. º Twitching of muscles
near right corner of mouth. º Feeling of cobwebs on right side by the mouth.
Lips :- º Red inflamed swelling on lower, with burning soreness when
touched. º Large herpetic spots upon mouth, and after burning heat the upper
lip became scurfy. º Pain in corners as if they would ulcerate. º Burning pain
in lower in evening. º Burning below left nostril in morning in bed. º
Crawling as from beetles.
Clinical :- º Erysipelas of face, with feeling of cobwebs on it.
Mouth :- º
Teeth :- º A piece broke out of a hollow one. º Sticking in a left lower
hollow back tooth in evening, with sticking in left ear and pain in forehead ;
intermittent, mostly in a left lower hollow back T. º Tearing in upper hollow,
with griping and sensation as if enlarged, so that she cannot bite nor clench
the teeth, with inflammation and swelling of gum, as if a gumboil would
form, in the evening the pain extends into lower teeth, amel. going to sleep ;
T. in hollow, extending into left half of head ; from hollow into half of head
of touched with the tongue or if cold water if taken into mouth ; in hollow,
extending into left cheek with pressure in forehead and eyeballs. º Griping in
hollow, in rainy weather ; constrictive, in hollow. º Aching in hollow, in bad
weather ; in upper hollow, with swelling of cheeks which pains as if tense
when touched ; drawing. º Boring in hollow in cool evening air. º Digging
after every supper and breakfast, amel. tobacco-smoking. º Elongated
sensation. º Crawling in upper and lower incisors, with tickling, then
salivation.
Gums :- º º Painful gumboil on outer side, with pain in a hollow tooth and
with swelling of cheek and whole left side of face, as far as below eye, where
there was an œdematous swelling (the pain amel. smelling of Chamomilla). º
Swelling, with pressure in hollow teeth in bad weather. º Bleeding of upper.
Tongue :- º º Aphthæ. º Red blister, as if skin were eroded, with pain on
every motion of tongue and on touch of anything salt or sour. º Dryness in
afternoon. º Cramp, as if stiff and asleep, so that breathing is impended.
º º Palate (of an infant) wrinkled, and frequent crying when nursing. º
Mucous membrane of forepart of palate shrivelled, as if burnt, with pain,
agg. chewing. º Aphthæ on inside of cheek ; bleeding when eating. º
Membrane of hard palate pinched and dry, with a few small erosions. º
Mouth of an infant very hot (Kali, Sil.). º Slimy mouth. º Copies cold
saliva. º Taste, bitter, if she eats anything or swallows saliva everything
tastes bitter ; insipid ; lost, to food ; lost, to soup, at dinner, and the soup
causes sweat.
Clinical :- º Aphthous sore mouth, the ulcers bleed on eating or on
touch ; mouth very tender in nursing children ; mouth is very hot, with
thirst and vomiting.

from lowest ribs to hipbone, after midday sleep till evening, agg. external
pressure ; in left, sometimes with a burning and with a sensation on deep
breathing as if something rose into chest, which sank down again on

in left as from a stone, when dancing, amel. continued dancing.
º Pressure as from a stone in right flank (after menses), extending to scapula,
from which place it extends spasmodically into stomach and small of back,
then vomiting. º Pinching constrictive pain above navel every morning,
obliging her to bend double, then it ceases. º Spasmodic dragging in
hypogastric region during menses, with shooting.
Rectum :- º Stitches in evening. º Contraction, with itching. º Desire for
stool in morning, stool at first hard, then diarrhœa-like, with burning in
anus ; frequent desire, with rumbling in abdomen and diarrhœa ; frequent
desire with pinching in abdomen and easy pasty stool. º Feeling as if
diarrhœa would come on, after smoking.
Anus :- º A swollen vein as large as a quill, painless, soft to touch. º Brown
mucus after stool. º Boring-sticking and in small of back. º Itching in
evening ; I. as from hæmorrhoidal mucus.
Stool :- º º Soft, light yellow, three times a day, with weakness. º
Diarrhœa ; six times from morning till 2 P.M., without pain ; in morning,
then usual stool in evening immediately after eating, with weakness in joints
and legs, which is amel. by walking ; with rumbling in abdomen ; then no
stool for several days, afterwards a hard stool daily ; sudden, with rumbling
and grumbling in abdomen. º Slimy stool every hour. º Like yellow water. º
Watery, greenish, with some mucus, crying out during each evacuation. º
Constipation, with fæces like sheep-dung. º Hard in morning, then diarrhœa
in afternoon, with much wind ; H., with straining. º Two scanty, pasty. º
Green (in a infant), preceded by crying. º Frequent ; and easy ; F. diarrhœa
after breakfast. º Pale mucus passes four times, with stool once
involuntarily. º Reddish liquid mucus with the stool. º Tenacious, glutinous
yellowish mucus with the stool. º Passage of blood and mucus from anus,
after diarrhœa. º Passage of round worms.
Clinical :- º Diarrhœa in nursing infants, offensive, preceded by colic,
stools mucous, with aphthous sore mouth, screaming before urinating, etc.
waking, crying out in fear, and during sleep muscular twitching and starting
at a slight noise. º The child tosses about, cries till 4 A.M., frequently out of
its sleep, and in the morning is in a whining mood. º An infant cries out of
sleep and anxiously grasps its mother, as if frightened by a dream. º
Dream of sore throat and other diseases. º Vexatious D. º Voluptuous D. º
She dreams of coition, but without pleasurable sensation.
Fever :- º Chill from 2 to 4 A.M., with trembling vomiting of food, tearing in
thighs and pain in their bones as if they would be broken, followed after
sleep by heat and thirst, then at 8.30 bitter vomiting, then sweat, with
diminished thirst. º C. from 2 to 6 P.M. (after thirst in forenoon), then till
going to sleep heat, with pain in left hypochondrium. º Coldness every
second afternoon, with thirst and sleep, on waking heat with aching in
inguinal ring. º C. after eating, with more thirst than appetite for dinner,
tensive drawing backward around hypochondria, heat suddenly rising into
head on deep breathing, then heat at 6 P.M., during which he must lie down
till 10, then sweat, then thirst.
º Coldness, with headache and subsequent heat, without thirst, agg. walking
in open air. º C. alternating with heat, often with sweat in face, during which
coldness runs down back, with stretching of limbs, weariness and sleepiness
so that he must lie down in afternoon, but inability to sleep, when walking
he drags the feet and is fretful and taciturn. º General shivering, with
throbbing pain in occiput as from suppuration. º Coldness, especially in
back, without thirst, with flat taste, rawness of larynx, stitches in chest when
breathing, weakness, stretching of limbs, contracted, quick pulse, heat,
heaviness and stupefaction in head and burning of eyes, with sensitiveness
to light. º Sensitiveness of external head to cold and to change of weather.
º Heat ; in evening in bed, with sweat, but chilliness as soon as he rises ; if
she puts her hands under the bed-covers, but coldness as soon as she puts
them out again. º Flushes of H. in morning, with nausea. º H. of head, mouth
and palms, in an infant ; in head in evening when writing with thirst and
sensation as if sweat would break out ; of left cheek, with redness. º Burning
in small of back while sitting. º H. of fingers, even from slight cold, with
redness, as after freezing ; in right thigh near pudenda, agg. cough and lying
hand upon it ; of toes, with redness and some coldness, as after freezing.
º Sweat at night ; during morning sleep, and when dressing cold sensation
dry cough and rawness in chest, as after taking cold.
