You are very fortunate people.
You are very very lucky people.
You came all the way down the
track, lived all those years, did
all these stupid things, and you
wind up here with a chance out.
That chance is as good as you
can audit. It's not a bit better.
It is a good thing if anybody is
to be fully cleared or go OT for
them to be trained. If they are
going to make it, they are going to
have to have been trained well.
I can see you now, with your
sleeves rolled up, sweating, with
three or four people that you're
auditing, and they keep asking you
these silly questions about, "What
is this thing called a Tone Scale?
I didn't know I had to study music
in order to . . . . "
Because in the first place they're
not really worried about becoming
OT. They want to cure their
lumbosis. Lumbosis, slumbosis —
who cares about that? That's
nothing, no importance.
And they're worried about their
present time problems. They come
into session and they want to tell
you about the fight they had with
their wife, and they want this all
cleared up. It's a present time pro-
blem. But actually it's their son
they're really worried about. And
then there's Aunt Agnes — she has
committed a terrible overt act
against them: she didn't die and
leave them their money. And so
forth, and on and on and on and on.
I can just hear you now, straigh-
tening all this up saying "fine", and
then the guy says, "Well, what's all
this wonderful power I was
supposed to have and all that sort
of thing?" And I can see you now,
"By the way, why don't you go

sitting there with so much know-
ledge of cases, you can hardly fail
to get some kind of a result. But
the number of new people that are
going to go out through the roof

actually become a fully trained
auditor, they really don't have a

When you start training some-
body, actually these people are
all pre-selected out of the races of
earth today. They arrived and
enrolled. That they are there tells
you that they're pre-selected people
to begin with. It's not a cross-
section of the population at all.
It's a very great minority of the
population, certainly composed of
the upper tenth of the intellects
of the world today.
So you're dealing with a specia-
lized group, specially selected.
These people are then moved on up
with further selection by advanced
levels of training. The confront, the
persistence required of one of these
people — sticking with it, the dis-
appointments and the upsets — if
you don't think that is a process
of pre-selection you should take a

On impulse I came down from San Francisco and
started the Briefing Course. I moved into some little
hole I didn 't like it and it was just cope. I was being
totally effect of the environment.
Then one of the first books I read on the Briefing
Course was Advanced Procedures and Axioms, and I
read about responsibility. People can tell you that you
don't have to be effect of anything unless you decide
to, that you can be totally responsible for your con-
dition. But until you realize it for yourself it doesn 't
change anything. When I read that book I actually
realized it for myself.
Within a month I pulled in a stable, safe environment
to live in, I pulled in a car, and a really good job auditing
at a Mission at night. And I pulled in a really happy,
lasting second dynamic relationship.
The Briefing Course gives you the guts of livingness,
why things happen the way they do, why people do
what they do. A person who is cleared and an OT is
still not going to know those mechanics until he does the
Briefing Course. An OT without training has potential
knowingsness, but a person who is trained actually has
the knowingness.
For example, my fiance, who is an OT with little
Scientology training, often asks me how to handle
situations. When it comes to handling people, with
training you've learned to apply the tools and you can
apply them, and you discover you can be effective in
spite of your case (I'm not Clear yet).
If you're going to operate as a thetan you've got to
know how to operate, period. You're operating in the
MEST universe most times, and the Briefing Course
is where you find the tech on how to do that. The
Briefing Course expands your ability on all eight
dynamics. ' greatly increased my level of certainty on standard tech.

A Great Experience
/ took over the mission in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois
back in August, 1971, with a large amount of Sciento-
logy administrative technology to hand but very little
auditing technology. It wasn't until Joel Morris returned
from the Saint Hill Special Briefing Course at ASHO in
1973 that the Mission really started to expand.
Since then, we've trebled the number of staff to
become one of the largest Missions in the Midwest.
Only after I spent a couple months on the Briefing
Course myself did I realize that one of the basic reasons
for our expansion was tighter adherence to Scientology
technology and policy which was made possible by
having ASHO-TRAINED people.
The most recent example is Dan McNichol's return
as an ASHO-trained Class VIII. Delivery statistics
doubled within three weeks of his arrival and have
remained high.

By the time you get through that
pre-selection, why, you're practic-
ally a screaming genius.
What happens after somebody
has gotten up the chart? Well, at
this stage of the game they're pro-
bably trained, but they certainly
have to be trained further in spite
of the pre-selections and other
things that brought them up along
the line. They'd have to be pretty
well grooved.
make OT. But certainly, definitely
and positively it will be a very very
long route for others. Hundreds of
years, thousands of years from now,
there will be somebody picking
it up and saying, "Well, let's see.
What's this thing called tone arm
action?"
When you look up the line on
that and get a real view of the
situation, you realize where you are
and where you sit. You're right up
in the front seat of the first break-
through that's ever been made in
this universe on the subject of the
road out, the way through.

The best way and the most sure
fire way to get to be OT, then, is
to be a top-rank auditor, for
various reasons, including the
aplomb it takes to confront the
bank.
New people - you can make
them well. It's well worth doing,
nothing wrong with that at all.
You can make a marriage run better
and a kid be happier, and you can
make life tenable, and so forth.
But actually you have to know how
to audit well in that direction just
to make life tenable enough for
you to be able to go through to OT.
A non-Scientologist is so sur-
rounded by confusion that their
present time is insufficiently calm
for them to have any progress in
the direction of OT.
Many are called but few are
chosen. There are many reasons
why this track and path is a limited
track and path. This isn't to say
that eventually everybody won't

The only thing I can ask you and
point out to you is that you're in a
position where you shouldn't
waste any of the potential which
you have immediately at your
fingertips. You shouldn't waste
any part of that.
Training is definitely, definite-
ly, definitely a part of the route to
OT. Definitely. This is something
that is not "nice" to be a part of.
This is something that is a vital
part of becoming OT.
The only thing I ask you to do
is to make the most of what you've
got.

DIANETICS IN CANADA!
On December 4, 1975, Diana Hubbard Hor-
wich, L. Ron Hubbard's beautiful daughter,
read Ron's first statement to the press in five
years at a reception in Toronto hosted by
Simon & Schuster of Canada, Limited. The
reception launched the first Canadian Pocket
Books edition of best-selling Dianetics: The
Modern Science of Mental Health for dis-
tribution in Canada-wide!
Simon & Schuster have released 50,000
copies to 3000 dealers across the country.
The President of Simon & Schuster of
Canada, James Smallwood, stated "We arc
delighted to have published Dianetics, basically
because we KNOW it's a best seller, has been
for years, and we hope that it will continue
to be."
Share Jessup, representative for the Scien-
tology Publications Organization, addressed
the group of about 50 people assembled at
Toronto's new Hyatt Regency Hotel. She
pointed out that quite a few publishing houses
had been competing for the contract, and
expressed her pleasure that she had encoun-
tered Simon & Schuster with their facilities and
experience to meet broad public demand
throughout Canada.
Diana next spoke and told the group how
she came to work in Dianetics. Awarded Royal
Academy honors in dancing, music and acting
examinations in England, and with a wide
range of interests from horse shows to naviga-
tion, she explained that she had been given
every opportunity to choose her occupation.
"In fact my father never persuaded me to
undertake any Dianetics or Scientology
activity. It was I who demanded he allow me
to know more about his work," she said.
Telling the story of how Dianetics was first
released and how Dianetics and Scientology
have grown since then despite attacks from
vested interests, she held the crowd spellbound.
"Rapid expansion has increasingly made it an
absolute necessity for us to give this book
into the hands of outside publishers and
distributors so that they may devote more
attention to it and in turn reap the benefits
of a book 25 years later still selling vastly
despite little promotion. For example in the
last 6 months," she went on,"102,396 copies
have been sold. The book literally sells itself."
She then read a statement written by L.
Ron Hubbard especially for the occasion.
"I am very pleased with the outstanding work
that Simon and Schuster has done and is doing
with the Canadian edition of Dianetics: The
Modern Science of Mental Health," she began
reading. "DIANETICS is now 25 years of age
. . . . When DIANETICS was first published in
1950 it burst upon America and the world with
a success I never dreamed possible. The con-
cepts of DIANETICS were so revolutionary
it took the public by a storm.
"My research had uncovered truths both
unexpected and hidden. I was excited and
amazed, but the public reaction is what over-
whelmed me most. Overnight my life had
changed. . . .
"It is a virtually unheard of feat that a hook
twenty five years after its publication should
continue to be met with such increasing public-
demand. It surprises even me; however, the
individual of today's society is demanding
facts. He wants understanding. He wants truth,
and he wants a technology that works. His
politicians and governments say they are busily
handling crime and terrorist activity, drug abuse
and insanity. But a look at the statistics of
these things, shows that the symptoms of social
decay and disaster are virtually out of control.

 DOES CLEARING CANCEL
THE NEED FOR TRAINING?

To answer the important question "does Clearing cancel training" all you
need to do as an auditor is clear someone without training him and then say
to him, "All right. Go out and clear people."
You'll get a blank stare.
Why?
Because Auditing skill is a discipline in living and a know-how of the parts
of life which is in itself something new in the universe. Even OTs don't have
auditing skill since there have never been auditors behind them.
There is such a thing as learning. There are such things as data.
The fact is, that a cleared Zulu is a cleared Zulu. A cleared advertising man
is a cleared advertising man. A cleared Zulu is not a cleared advertising man.
Now a Zulu uncleared has scant chance of becoming an advertising man.
But a cleared Zulu would probably be able to become one rapidly. And
there's the difference.
Being cleared gives one the potential of being and makes the being rather
easy, and fun. Further, being cleared makes it possible to continue to be
something. There's nothing wrong with being cleared. A person ought to
be. The state is so valuable several hundreds of millions of people in the
past 2,500 years have concentrated on nothing else.
But how about getting cleared and staying cleared forever? The auditor
alone with his data well learned could manage that.
Scientology is the data necessary to live.
If everyone were now to concentrate only on how to get cleared and
forget all about how to stay cleared, we'd be back in the soup in a century.
Oddly enough the best time to study auditing is when you're aberrated
-when the thing looks impossible, when you can achieve subjectively reality
on the grimness of it.
The best things a person can do are to (1) get trained and (2) get cleared.
Auditors will always be senior to clears. Always. That became very obvious
in the 19th ACC. People who weren't cleared created clears.
If a person gets cleared first, he can, of course learn very rapidly how to
be a good Scientologist. If he is to be a very good being he will be both a
good auditor and a clear. That combination cannot be beaten.
If we had only clears and no auditors we'd have another slump ahead.
Scientology is not in the experience of anyone's back track. It is itself.
It is the one thing senior to life because it handles all factors of life. Scien-
tology could not have happened earlier because there was not enough
livingness to study. We have arrived near bottom.
There are people getting cleared now all over the world. Just remember
that you share the agreement of the society in which you live. You'll have
to be able to audit to skillfully handle aberrated persons. And it will take
a lot of auditors to have a cleared society.
Right now it's all right to keep your eye on that first dynamic and get
cleared. You should. But when, suddenly, you find you've achieved clear
remember when I tell you this one thing:
There are eight dynamics.
You cannot stay cleared unless you solve things by the equation of the
optimum solution: The greatest good for the greatest number of dynamics.
Failing to so solve things dug you in to where you were in the first place.
Scientology got you out.
Stay out by knowing Scientology well.
I look forward to seeing your bright, smiling face, cleared or not, in the
Academy.
A Cleared World to be needs you as a good and skilled Scientologist.
And that's how you're going to help me.

BEFORE CLEAR . . .
THE KEY TO OT ABILITY
/ always valued training as something pre-
cious-and now that I am OT. I can see now
truly precious it really is. It's great being Clear
and OT, however without the training to back
up my abilities I would be floundering. It's
like having a solid gold key to a solid gold Rolls
Royce and not knowing where the ignition is.
With training I am able to be at cause across
the dynamics because I understand the me-
chanics of them.
There is no limit to my power and ability
with being both Clear and OT and trained.

SMOOTH PATH TO CLEAR
After auditing as a Class IV Auditor for
many years I was thrilled to get the opportu-
nity to do the Saint Hill Special Briefing
Course and Senior Saint Hill Special Briefing
Course, and finally get all the tech as Ron
developed it from 1950 up to 1975. I came to
Los Angeles as a Class IV, Grade IV, and I
received my Power Processing as soon as I
started the Briefing Course, which really set
me up to be a power student.
The data of the Briefing Course was every-
thing anyone could hope for--it filled in all
the missing areas I had as a Class IV Auditor
and gave me a solid foundation to stabilize
my auditing. I felt much more professional
as an auditor with the data of a Class VI.
Also the data of the Briefing Course made
the processing side of the Gradation Chart
much more real and I couldn 't wait to get on
to the Clearing Course. I went right onto the
Solo Auditor's Course after I graduated as a
Class VI, which is a whiz when you're a
trained auditor. Then I was quickly onto
Grade VI and now I'm on the Clearing Course.
It's wonderful1
I intend to get trained through Class VIII
and HSST. I can't wait to get to work on
getting other beings up the chart to Clear
and OT.

worked. I went Clear 2'A years ago which was

Pink lady in the sky on the training route
What flies a pink helicopter, wears
pink clothes and gives traffic reports?
DIM PETTY, now an OT III, the first
woman traffic helicopter pilot in Canada.
She first began doing that eight years
ago, and she still flies part of the year.
Meanwhile, she has become a popular
TV personality with an extremely suc-
cessful phone-in TV show and now a
TV series called "Let's Talk Real Estate."
Her latest project is in the beauty
field, which will involve a coast to coast
TV series in Canada.
She is just finishing the Dianetics
Course and is very gung-ho to get the

TRAINING PUTS BUSINESSMAN
AT CAUSE
Ten years ago, MARTIN HUBER of
Munich, Germany, inherited his father's
four shops specializing in watches and
clocks. He was faced with all the pro-
blems of business at once.
He studied economics and even
looked into the famous Business School
at Harvard, but, he says, it was all a
waste of time. "I just had to pitch in
and do as best I could - an expensive
and time-wasting business because I
lacked the data to handle the most
important part: human relations."
In 1972 he found Scientology and
was audited. He still neglected to
train, and, he relates, "though my aware-
ness improved 1 still did not get rid of
my difficulties because I lacked the
tools with which to handle them!" His
wife finally got him to do the Primary
Rundown and Dianetics Course
"That was it," he says. "I went on and
did my Academy Levels too. Every new
you the ability to have the most incredi-
ble space of your own to live in, but
when you walk into the rest of life and
want to handle it you need training,"
she says. "I always thought when I got
in Scientology that people told me 1
needed training because they were try-
ing to sell me something. Finally I re-
alized I'm doing fine, but what about
the poor guy over here who needs help,
what am I going to do with him? That's
where I know I need training."

Briefing Course which he is looking for-
ward to with enthusiasm.
"Many businessmen probably feel as I
used t o , " he says. "They are valuable to
their firm, they are holding their com-
pany together, they have no time to
spare . . . and when someone suggests they
come for training they are apt to shrug
their shoulders and laugh. But they
should take a look at this-many of their
problems will only be resolved if they
do get trained!"

ARTIST BECOMES MORE OT
ON SPECIAL BRIEFING COURSE
Well-known artist ROY KERSWILL,
an OT and L-l 1 completion, is now on
the Briefing Course at ASHO 11 hours a
day. And yet, he says, "In the 8 weeks
since I've been on course I've produced
about $35,000 worth of paintings in my
spare time at night and on weekends. I
can easily keep up a level of 5200,000
a year production while still studying
all day on course."
He plans to continue his training at
ASHO up to Class VIII Case Supervi-
sor. In his spare time as a C/S, he wants
to produce a series of 30 Scientology
paintings to travel as a show for dis-
semination.
Born in Devon, England, Roy came
to Nebraska in 1947 and decided to
stay. He later settled in Wyoming to show
the world the beauty and grandeur of
the mountains and plains of the West
through his art.
He is also an experienced mountain
climber and has won the International
David Spangler works over the music for a new song.
HIT MUSICAL
DAVID SPANGLER, who wrote all the
dance arrangements for the smash Broad-
way hit MAGIC SHOW, has just finished
Grade II! The show has been playing on
Broadway for more than two years, and
there will soon be companies taking it
all over the world.
David started getting audited while
the show was still in rehearsal. "After
the show became a success," he recalls,
"that was a whole other thing to deal
with. I had a sort of self-defeating thing
going in my career, and my.whole work
attitude improved in auditing."
Coming from a very small Kansas
Canoeing Championship on the Arkan-
sas River in Colorado.
"I was reasonably successful before
Scientology," he says, "but success
was hard because I would spend hours,
days, or even weeks on one painting."
For 25 years he had collected material
on things he wanted to paint. Then after
an auditing session one day in 1971, he
dug out the sketches. He picked out the
five most difficult and produced all five
in five days! "My career has gone in-
creasingly better ever since,*' he says.
The Briefing Course has proven to be
a source of many wins. "I should have
done this course long ago," he exclaims.
"Ron says that 50% of the gains are in
training. He's right! I have had literally
thousands of wins and cognitions so
far. I really believe I could have saved
myself $20,000 by doing this course-
I would have been able to apply this
knowledge in my own auditing, and it
all would have gone much faster."

I'm able," he says. "I've just become
more comfortable with myself because
I've become more myself. I've never been
happier, more at ease, everywhere I am.

and has many more projects in the
works - including of course coming to
Los Angeles for Power Processing and
Clear.
