ASSESSMENT TASK
This assessment task is designed to assess your ability to investigate and design e-business solutions.

You are required to:

competitive position, core business activities, market growth and trends, customer base,
supply chain and value chain
 Investigate e-business opportunities for the company
 Evaluate one or more e-business models and solutions
 Design a plan for one or more e-business solutions for the company. This may include:
- A revamp or re-design of their web-site with a clear e-business strategy
- An e-commerce strategy
- An e-marketing strategy
- Implementation of a E-distributor model and solution
- Implementation of a E-procurement model and solution
- Implementation of a E-content provider model and solution
- Implementation of a Transaction broker model and solution
- Implementation of a Market creator model and solution
- Implementation of a Service provider model and solution
- Implementation of a Community provider model and solution
(see the following slide-share presentation for additional support:
https://www.slideshare.net/MadhurChoudhary2/e-business-models-42271820 )
 Design an implementation plan for the e-business solution
 Optional: provide evidence of the e-business solution. Note: this part is optional because you
might not have the resources and technical expertise to develop an e-business solution.
However, you could use social media to provide an example of e-marketing strategy or use
websites like wix to develop a free home page of a website to show your vision for the business.
It may be time consuming; however, it could be a good practice. If you decide to provide evidence
of the e-business solution, show your work to your trainer and take a screen shot of your work
and upload it with your submission.
 Address the case study to demonstrate your ability to implement the e-business solution.

The assessment comprises of the following sections:

SECTION 1: Investigate the business and e-business opportunities. Evaluate e-business models and
solutions to propose to the organisation.

SECTION 2: Develop a plan for the e-business solution, including an implementation plan.

SECTION 3: Case Study

SECTION 1 – INVESTIGATION

1. Provide a brief description of the organisation you have chosen to complete this assessment.
RMD is a small cleaning business company based in western Sydney. Their main job is general cleaning of
new houses usually working for builders.

2. Business analysis
Analyse the organisation and address all the following points:
o Describe the industry in which the business operates
o Identify and describe the core business activities
o Identify and describe the product or service offering
o Identify and describe the current business model
o Undertake6 a value chain analysis for the business
o Identify and describe the customer base
o Identify the business values
o Describe the business direction
(Min. 150 words)

RMD works for builder companies, it is in charge of cleaning the house multiple times while the houses
are build. Usually cleaning one or two houses per day. RMD do a first cleaning where we focus only in
cleaning the mirrors, especially outside, taking advantage of the scaffolds when the house has two stores.

We may go to clean again when the builder has advanced a lot in the construction but still some areas are
not complete like kitchen, bathroom, carpet or tiles on the floor etc. We may do this at least two or three
times before we do a final cleaning when the house is completely ready for handover.

We do a general cleaning to the whole house inside, use acid to clean the tiles and pressure water to
remove paint or cement in the garage and the porch or back of the house.

The current business model can be considered B2B (business to Business) and B2C since sometimes we
also do domestic cleaning houses that are already occupied, we also mown the lawn sometimes.

Customer based are especially builders companies like Allworth, clarendon, Eagle homes but sometimes
also any person who wants his house to be cleaned.

The houses we clean are usually located in western Sydney, we have to meet in the owner house and then
head to the house. For the value chain we have to consider prices of road tolls, petrol, tools we use.

Currently jobs are a bit quiet, that’s why we are expanding to do more general cleaning which can include
mowing the lawn. Another direction the owner wants to focus is cleaning the bricks after they construct
the wall.

Business value I would like to point at the competitive advantage. RMD has already a market position with
Allworth and Clarendon, in order to expand the business they need to continue doing the best to find
more builders willing to give it a try.

3. Market analysis
Analyse the market and address all the following points:
o Entry barriers
o Market size, growth, trends
o Segment the market according to the organisation’s core activities
o Identify and analyse 3 competitors in the market space where the business operates. Your analysis
should also identify what e-business solutions they adopt
o Undertake a PESTLE analysis (note: you have learned the skills to undertake a PESTLE analysis in your
previous unit)
o Consider the market and the industry in which the company operates, determine the impact of new e-
business capabilities on industry sectors and competitors
(Min. 150 words)

At first it is always difficult to enter a market, but once you have a client if your job is good the same client
with recommend you. That’s what happened to RMD, currently due to Covid jobs has been affected, the
builders slow down the job but they are still working, the goal now is to get more builders to increase the
amount of jobs receiving weekly. However after the builders go back to normal there would be many job
which with the current size of the company would be impossible.

It is important to think about how to cover that demand in case we want to find more builders now.

Organization core activities.

We clean: new and old houses, apartments, exit cleaning (empty houses that needs to be cleaned to rent
again)
Cutting the grass sometimes, cleaning swimming pools sometimes.
Our competitors are those big and small companies that also clean, but so far our main competitors
would be cleaning services that work for different builders.

Pestle analysis

Political
Minimum wage laws for payment
Taxes: declare taxes every year. It is necessary to have an accounted.

Economic
Inflation rates, and debts
Employee salaries
Income of customers (the more houses people buy, the best for us).

Social

Population growth or decline: with the population growing more people want to buy their own house that
would be more job for us.
Diversity: we are in a diversity country, sometimes they are problem due to language barrier, but usually
is not an issue.

Technological
Software: the software uses for the payment needs to be registered and up to date.
Better equipment: having the last equipment and good workers would give an advantage over
competitors.

Legal
Employees: all employees need to be eligible for work, student visa, working visa etc.
Consumer protection laws

Environmental
Roads closed or no electricity during storms or bushfires.
Reduce of water.

For new e-business capabilities I think about a new machine that can be used for cleaning bricks with high
pressure acid. Currently there are many people doing that, the machine is expensive but having clients to
work for would be a good opportunity to grow.

4. SWOT analysis
Based on your business and market analysis, complete a SWOT analysis for the organisation of your
choice.

Strengths
RMD can go to any part in Sydney
Good quality cleaning
Two frequent clients

Weaknesses
Small company, not enough workers.
Low salary for employees

Opportunities
Machine to clean bricks
Focus more in cleaning swimming pools and mowing lawn.

Threats
Companies with better salary for employees

Cleaning competitors charging less.

5. Potential contribution of e-business

Consider the analysis that you have undertaken so far. In this part of your analysis, you should consider
several e-business models and solutions for the business before short-listing some of the most appropriate.
Address all the following points:
o Identify what business processes (as per your value chain analysis) may benefit from the adoption of
e-business solutions.
o Identify threats and opportunities to e-business implementation and evaluate potential contribution
to the business.
o Identify and analyse resources, cost and revenue implications for the development of the e-business
solutions.
o Analyse (identification and description) of the legal and ethical issues relating to the e-business
opportunities.
(Min. 150 words)

Some solutions I would consider

Create a website to reach more people and show the work RMD does.

Buy a machine to clean bricks, this can be done by someone else. It would be necessary to have a person
with a driving license who can do this job.

Another way to reach more people could be creating a website and paying for advertising in social media
but this could be bad since too many could want its services and the company would be unable to cover
the demand.

In order to analyse the cost and revenue it is necessary to have the price of the machine necessary to
clean the bricks and also the price of this job. We have to consider the price of the petrol and how many
people does It need to operate so we can calculate when we will get back the inversion for the machine.

6. E-business models and solutions evaluation

In order to determine the most appropriate e-business model and solution for the business, a model that
can support the strategic objective of the business, it is important to carefully evaluate some of the
solutions that you have in mind for the business based on the analysis conducted so far.
Address all the following points:
o Identify and analyse 3 possible e-business solutions for the organisation
o Rank the e-business solutions based on their strengths and weaknesses, resources needed to
implement, technical and security requirements.
o Assess the cost-implications of the implementation of each e-business solution
o Based on your evaluation, determine the most appropriate e-business solution for the business
(Min. 150 words)

Possible business solutions: create a website: It would be helpful to show our services in a website, what’s
more the business will look more professional with a good website, I can’t think in any weakness for
having a website, probably the website can influence in the decision of someone to hire us. The photos
and the whole website should give a good impression.

Pay for advertising in social media: This is a good way to reach a lot of people, we can pay for advertising
in Facebook or Instagram offering our services but this is also a bad idea since there could be many people
interested and it would be impossible for a small company to cover the demand

Get a machine to clean bricks and visit builders to offer our service: This is a good idea, by doing this we
won’t only focus in cleaning inside the house but also outside the house, currently another company is
doing this. Since we are the ones who clean outside a good price will make us a good option to consider.
The builders will have only one company to do all the cleaning.

In conclusion an E-marketing strategy would be the best option, create a website and also expand our
business by cleaning bricks.

SECTION 2 – PLANNING

1. Scope of the plan

Address all the following points:
o Describe the purpose of the plan
o Describe how the implementation of the e-business solution/s align with the business plan of the
chosen organisation
o List the key objectives of the e-business solution implementation

Create a website to show future clients the service we offer. The next step will be sent email or visit builders
to offer our services, the website will be useful for them to see in details and with pictures our work.

Objective reach more people to get future clients.

Target market and value chain

Address all the following points (Min. 100 words):
o Identify the target market associated with the e-business model/solution
o Identify and describe the value chain structure of the organisation in accordance with the e-business
model

The target market will continue the same builders, but we can also add normal people who wants
their house to be clean and also cleaning swimming pool and mowing the lawn, for cleaning
swimming pool it must be helpful to get some information or a course about the use of swimming
pool, not only washing completely but also understanding how it works to make maintenance.
For the value change we have to consider the money we spend in different things like paying
employees, buying tools, road tolls, petrol, we need the price to create a website and how much we
have to invest buying the new tools we would need.
If we want to clean bricks it would be necessary to buy a machine and also a car to transport it. In this
case we also have to consider the price mentioned below for the new vehicle.
2. Technical needs
List and describe the technical needs and expertise required to implement the e-business solution/s.

A graphic designer to take the photos and create a website.

Training for cleaning and maintenance a swimming pool.
A new driver and training to use a high pressure machine.

3. Cultural change issues

Address all the following points (Min. 100 words):
o Identify the cultural change issues that may arise from managing the transition into the e-business
model/solution.
o Develop a high-level plan to address each issue that you have identified.

Workers from different cultures, our company needs to have people who can get along with people from different
cultures, Australia is a multicultural country so people should be open to understand or respect different cultures.

4. Implementation support
Address all the following points:
o Identify policies and guidelines to support customers, supply chain and staff to ensure successful
implementation
o Select one of the policies or guidelines that you have identified and develop it (high-level). Attach the
policy or guideline in a separate file with your submission. Call the file BSBEBU501_T1_Policy or
Guideline draft

Customer quality policy

Our customers are the most important part of the business. Our main purpose is to make a very good job,
it is important to also have someone in charge of calls and have an organized schedule so we can know
exactly when we can visit our clients and when are we going to have free time in case someone needs our
service as soon as possible.

5. Monitoring

Address all the following points (Min. 100 words):

o Develop a plan to monitor performance of business goals

o Develop a plan to adjust policies and procedures to respond to changing needs of customer, staff and
supply chain.

Currently this is monitor in a blackboard, every week they plan which to place visit first and what we are
going to do there. Considering the business will grow it would be necessary have a software to monitor
this. Since this is more about planning I consider Microsoft excel or something similar would be helpful, the
files can be located in the cloud with access from computers and cell phones.

6. Feedback
Address all the following points:
o Develop a plan to seek and collect feedback from users and personnel responsible for e-business
implementation
o Describe how the results of the feedback will be collected, analysed and evaluated to be then
implemented

(Min. 100 words)

If we want to collect feedback we can send an email so they can response with what they like and what they didn’t
like, however, I’m sure most people aren’t interested in filling out data and surveys at least they are not happy
with the job and want to complain.

As a small business who is giving a service I consider the best way to make sure we are doing a good job is to ask
directly to our clients weather they like our job or not. Some

people are willing to give feedback, we can take notes about that in order to improve our future service.

o Based on your plan, develop a survey to send to users. Attach your survey in a separate file, call the
file BSBEBU501_T1_survey

SECTION 3 – CASE STUDY

Consider the following scenario:
TA102 FO Assessment Task Page 9 of 10

You have now implemented your e-business model/solution and the following occurs:

 The implementation is presenting some technical problems

 The target customers are not as responsive as you planned to the e-business solution
 Some of the staff in the organisation is resisting the change

Based on your plan in section 2, address all the following points:

 Describe how the technical issues will be resolved, what will your action plan be?
 Describe how you would improve the responsiveness of your target customers and what adjustments to
policies and procedures you would implement to support your action
 Describe how you would address the resistance to change in the organisation based on your plan
 Describe how you would implement future e-business strategies based on the scenario that has occurred
 (Min. 200 words)

A common problem would be problems in the website. It is important to back up the website and its documents so
in case there is a big problem that looks difficult to solve we can just restore the website to the moment it was
working correctly. Besides we should count with the help of a programmer or graphic designers who can fix any
bug in the website or software.

To improve responsibility we need to have a schedule and follow it. Recently we’ve been having problem with a
company because they take too long to release the money. In this case if they don’t pay on time it’s better to stop
working with them since this only creates delays and complications for the payment.

We are going to hire people who are going to be in charge of new roles. Our workers should be able to do any
other function, sometimes they just don’t feel confident enough or are afraid to do new things. I think the best
way it’s to give them the opportunity, in case they just refuse to do something new if we consider they are very
important for the company they can do stick up with one role but if this is not the case and it may cause problems
inside the business it would be better to replace the worker.

In the long run if the new business is being effective that would be a signal to keep doing the same but looking into
expanding the business. We can try to reach more people by putting some advertising or making discount to
people who can bring new clients.
