include the nature, business, operational and financial parameters of
performance, SWOT, product line, competitors, policies and

5
STP Guidelines, Deptt. Of Management Studies, CUH

procedures or any other information relevant and related to the

project etc.
About the Project
This part should contain information about the topic of project (If assigned any to the
student by Supervisor from the organisation. All the terminologies,
concepts which might be used in project introduction
comprehensively. If introduction has concepts from earlier
works/research, they should be properly cited (For referencing style,
refer to point 1.8.7 of this section).

1.8.2. Literature Review (Chapter 2)
1.8.2.1. This part will contain the earlier work/research/publication carried
out by researchers/institutions/organisations relating to the topic of
project. Earlier works/research should be properly cited in Literature
Review(For referencing style, refer to point 1.8.7 of this section). In
other words, student has to carry out a methodical examination of
available study material (books, journals, periodicals, official
gazettes, etc) on the topic the study. Provide the existing information
on the work already done by way of fundamental nature of the study
and the author’s name and references of publications.

1.8.2.2. Objective
1.8.2.2.1. Itshould be pragmatic and consistent with the title of
the study or work carried out by you during your
Summer Training project and achievable during the
course of summer training within the prescribed
schedule. Students are advised to develop the
objectives in consultation with their respective
supervisors from the organisation and faculty from

6
STP Guidelines, Deptt. Of Management Studies, CUH

the department. The objectives must start with action

oriented verbs. A sample of objectives is given
below as example:

- To study the growth of sales of RO Water Purifiers.

1.8.3. Methodology (Chapter 3)

1.8.3.1. In case a student uses primary data, a questionnaire must be
prepared and it has to be made part of the summer training project
report. The questionnaire should be consistent with the objectives
and the scope of the study being carried out as part of summer
training project and duly vetted by the respective supervisor. The
questionnaire should be designed in a simple language so that the
targeted population must understand and able to respond effectively.
Sampling technique and the sample size should be selected
according to the problem under study. The justification for selecting
particular sampling technique must be given. In case of secondary
data, it should be collected according to objectives and scope of the
study. Proper references of sources of data must be compiled and
mentioned against each data used in the study in the following
manner (with reference to above example):

“The sales data of Forbes & Kent brands of RO Water Purifier is collected from their
Annual Financial Statements for the period 2002-2006.”

Students also have to explain the concepts, tools and techniques
used for data analysis. The rational and justification for using a
particular tool and technique should be explained. For example if a
student uses Standard Deviation as a statistical tool, he should

7
STP Guidelines, Deptt. Of Management Studies, CUH

explain the concept of Standard Deviation and its relevance to the

study along with its formula.
A brief theoretical description of concepts, tools and techniques
used in project along with definition of key words and formulae etc.
should be included
1.8.3.2. Rational
Why this project in summer training is being carried out. This section will highlight the
problem to which the project is addressing
1.8.4. Analysis and Interpretation (Chapter 4)
1.8.4.1. Raw data (primary or secondary) collected must be reduced to
standard formats such as tables, charts, graphs, diagrams etc and is
to be presented in this chapter. The tool for data presentation should
be suitably selected so that interpretation and inferences could be
drawn easily and become self explanatory. Proper titles, legends,
scales, source (s) etc must be mentioned along with each diagram.

Students are required to apply established theoretical concepts, tools and techniques to the
data and draw inferences. Students are required to discuss rational
and logic for drawing inferences. For each inference, proper
linkages are to be established either with the data analysed or with
the calculation(s) to be included in this Chapter. Wherever,
calculations are to be carried out, it must be provided before
drawing any inference. The inferences are to be presented in
narrative form from each data set along with any limitation (s) due
to data insufficiency, if any.
1.8.5. Conclusion
1.8.5.1. This should contains the following heads:
1.8.5.2. Results of the Summer Training Project

8
STP Guidelines, Deptt. Of Management Studies, CUH

These are to be presented and supported by facts & figures in narrative form and be culled

with the objectives of the study. Also, mention the achievement of
objectives or otherwise.

1.8.5.3. Limitation
The limitations could be mentioned in terms of data insufficiency, time & expertise
constraints etc.

1.8.6. Scope of Further Work
1.8.6.1. Any scope for extension of the study to new geographical areas,
segments, time with larger data, is to be mentioned under this
heading
