Introduction:
The novel coronavirus has not only led to a pandemic, but has reached to a point where hospitals are
facing a crisis. Observing the outbreak, XYZ hospital has come up with the initiative to make a special
unit that will consist of 30 beds. The privilege of this special unit will be available only to those patients
who have been registered for the last 3 years.

The purpose of this report is to highlight the strategies XYZ hospital has opted for. For example, the
hospital management has taken this decision to ensure both hygiene and quality is maintained. This is
one of their key cultural values, alongside ensuring the quality of customer service is elevated. The
hospital is taking adequate measures to ensure health and safety for the doctors which will satisfy each
elements of their organizational structure.

2. Critical Analysis of functional strategy:


The 30 bed COVID-19 ICU service that XYZ hospital is providing to battle the novel coronavirus abides by
the cultural values of the hospital itself.

 Quality: The first step to prevent from getting diagnosed with COVID-19 is to keep your hands
and face clean. This disease can be transmitted from one person to another, hence it is very
important to keep your environment clean as well to wear protective gear. The special unit of
XYZ hospital disinfects the area after every 2 to 3 hours to ensure the safety of their workers as
well as their patients. In terms of their ethical practice, the hospital is providing free mask and a
sanitizer at the doorstep for their previously registered patients.
 Caring for the community: With the help of their interns, that is those who are working on shifts
have been asked to host online classes during their free time. The online classes will include a
series of episodes, like how to treat a COVID-19 patient at home. Besides, the hospital has also
approached NGOs to help in donation drive for the underprivileged.
 Caring for the staff: The pandemic has led to both mental and physical stress for the caregivers
of the hospital. Thus, the hospital has made sure that any caregiver who is ill due to COVID-19
shall not affect their paid time off and sick days. The hospital will provide the doctors and nurses
to avail selected online therapies for free for that will help in rejuvenating their mental well-
being.
 Effectiveness: Serious COVID-19 cases leads to breathing issues. The hospital has contacted
Walton which claims to be the first in Bangladesh to produce ventilators that helps with
breathing problems and respiratory illness.
 Integration: A chat box should be run from the Facebook page of the hospital to assess patient’s
risk. Through a virtual visit patients shall be directed well about the symptoms that are ought to
arise due to the virus. If the issues escalate then an in person visit shall be scheduled.
 Research and Training: The hospital has contacted top few researchers who will help in
inventing a medicine for the disease. Thus they will provide a separate lab which has all the high
tech equipment exported from foreign companies to conduct clinical trials.

Achieving customer responsiveness:

 Information systems: If any registered patient needs to be tested for coronavirus, a team of
staffs will be allocated for such services. That is, the hospital will create an app and patients will
be able to schedule the appointment. The team will arrive at the individual’s given address
wearing protective gear. To assure this is carried out successfully, an IT team will hired to deal
with any app issues. In case of any emergency, the app will alert the medical professional.
 Leadership: According to a recent report, approximately 47% healthcare workers have voted
that their employer has not clearly provided guidelines regarding COVID-19. Leaders that are the
senior physicians in XYZ hospital will communicate with their employees properly so that it does
not affect their work management, as so that it does not lead to customer dissatisfaction. The
senior physicians will constantly keep motivating their employees so that their performance and
engagement with the customers are not affected.
