MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

A Four-Year Journey
On July 15, 2016, surrounded by family, friends, supporters and investors like
you, I took a leap of faith to launch what, at that time was nothing more than a
brand, an umbrella to house the expressions of GOD given gifts and talents that
I felt called to share with the world. From serving as the publishing house for my
first book, “Becoming: Reflections on Maximizing Failures and Living Into My Best Self,” to being the
production company to debut my single of the same name, Good to the SOUL at its inception was
completely centered on me. At the time I was raising a rambunctious child, pastoring a wonderful
church full-time, and using Good to the SOUL as a very “every now and then” means to explore the
myriad ways I responded to the call of GOD of the universe. While that exploration was authentic,
meaningful, and fun, it became abundantly clear that GOD had other plans for this idea.

In 2017 I was selected as an inaugural Do Good X (https://dogoodx.org/) Fellow. As a Fellow, I

attended the first Do Good X Boot Camp and Start Up Accelerator, where I reimagined what was
possible with the idea of Good to the SOUL. In 2018, I formally filed our business entity documents
with the State of Indiana and built a website, but it wasn’t until I experienced a disconnect between
how I imagined church should be and what I was experiencing as a lead pastor, that I found the
courage to put in the work to see Good to the SOUL grow. Two years later and Good to the SOUL is
growing into a social enterprise engaged in energizing individuals and institutions to flourish.

Financial Highlights
Financially, it has taken us awhile to gain our proverbial footing. Pivoting from a personal hobby to a
sole proprietorship and now as a fully functional social enterprise has required disciplined financial
accountability. Last year an angel investor encouraged us to utilize QuickBooks to streamline our
accounting. This year we hired an accounting firm, Mind Your Business (https://www.teammyb.com/)
to help us manage our QuickBooks and navigate procurement and deliverables processes as our
subcontracting work increased. Over the past five years we have experienced varying degrees of
profit and loss, including a net gain in revenues of $10,499 over the 2016-2020 YTD period, and
operating at a substantial loss in 2016 and 2018. This year, we are currently on target to end our fiscal
year having earned a profit.

Operating Highlights
Good to the SOUL, LLC is a for-profit,
social enterprise, registered in the
State of Indiana as a domestic limited
liability company. As a social
enterprise, we prioritize social impact
over revenue profit, while being in the
business of meeting unmet needs
with iterative, innovative, and customized approaches. We provide culturally responsive consultation
to churches, nonprofits, institutions of higher education, and individuals who intersect these spaces.
We coach clergy, congregational teams, faculty, researchers, and other individuals seeking to
enhance professional and missional performance. We produce and manage social media, event and
other marketing content for churches, nonprofits, institutions of higher education and individuals.
Additionally, we convene spaces where the spirit of universal living and liberation is central, and
participants explore relevant subjects related to the cultivation of personal and communal wholeness.

With a staff of eight part-time independent contractors, inclusive of myself, an Operations Assistant,
three SOUL Stirrers, an Artistic Consultant, an Accounting Consultant and a Special Projects
Consultant, this social enterprise looks a lot different than when it began. Our business model
prioritizes equitable compensation for all staff persons. All part-time, independent contractors are paid
a monthly stipend commensurate with their skills and expertise each month, without regard for the
total number of hours worked. This model has proven successful in maintaining staff morale and
productivity. Although we anticipate continuing this pay model into the foreseeable future, we also
recognize that this model requires a company capital development model that relies on consistent
contractual receipts and the benevolence of impact investors who value the social good and
opportunity employment at the core of the Good to the SOUL model.

“Our business model prioritizes equitable compensation for all

staff persons.”

Looking Ahead
1 John 3:2 records, “Beloved, we are GOD’s children now;
what we are becoming has not yet been revealed. What we do
know is this: when GOD is revealed, we will be like GOD, for
we will see GOD as GOD is.” This scripture has been at the
heart of every decision I have made concerning Good to the SOUL since our inception. My goal has
always been to do work that helps to reveal the essence of the GOD of the universe in the
marketplace. As a follower of the Way of Jesus Christ, I believe it is my duty to show up authentically
in every opportunity I am given and that doing so bears fruit that makes a difference. As a business
principle, this looks like coaching leaders and workers to notice, name, and nurture their best selves to
cultivate spaces where imagination and ideation are energized.

In the coming year, we hope to continue our coaching and consultancy work with an increased
clientele. We also hope to expand our “Light & Levity” platform to include dynamic content, inclusive of
Vlogs and essays that center the lives of people doing good in the spirit of universal living and
liberation. This means that in the coming months, you will see a shift in our online presence to center
the stories of Black LGBTQ+ people, as well as essays and other creative and inspirational writing. In
addition to expanding our storytelling platform, you can expect to see an expanded offering of SOUL
merchandise, including apparel, home goods and mindfulness resources. Lastly, in the next year, you
can expect us to return to one of the first endeavors of Good to the SOUL, with the publication of a
sophomore work and books by authors whose works are aligned with the spirit of universal living and
liberation.

On behalf of the staff of Good to the SOUL, LLC and from the depths of my heart and SOUL, I say
“thank you” for not only believing in the vision, but also sowing seeds and investing in bringing this
vision to pass. We have been on a four-year journey and it has been enabled by investors like you.
Thank you.
