Tektronix Network Diagnostics Academy

Global supplier for telecommunication measurement equipment.

As the worldwide market leader for mobile communication protocol test, our technical expertise and creativity, combined with our mobile test
market experience delivers content of unmatched quality and depth.
We provide first hand, real world information on issues that have been left unclear in the standards while avoiding insignificant details.
For engineers or technicians it is not enough to understand what is happening on the radio interface. It is also critical to understand and
analyze the message flows on the line interfaces to install, trial, test, operate, optimize or troubleshoot mobile networks.

"Network operators and mobile equipment manufacturers need more tools than what's available today to effectively troubleshoot
mobile communications networks," said Arif Kareem, General Manager, Monitoring & Protocol Test, Tektronix. "By providing vast
training resources, Tektronix is equipping operators and manufacturers with a new level of expertise and analysis capability to
successfully build and manage their nextgeneration networks."

Implementing and deploying communication networks based on modern mobile networks results in exciting and fascinating new services and
applications. However at the same time it generates enormous technical challenges. Interoperability, roaming or QoS awareness between
multi operators and multi technology network infrastructures are just a few of the problems, which need to be met. Five main categories of
problems can be differentiated:
1. Network Element Instability
2. Network Element Interworking
3. Multi Vendor Interworking (MVI)
4. Configuration Faults
5. Network Planning Faults

To trial, deploy, operate or troubleshoot such infrastructures and applications successfully, it is vital to understand and analyze the message
flows within the networks. Modern mobile networks utilize more interfaces and protocols than ever before, and the amount of data to analyze is
significantly higher than that known of fixed networks. Understanding of complex mobile technologies is crucial for the success of any
telecommunications company.
As the No. 1 experts in mobile communication protocol test, Tektronix has developed the Network Diagnostics Academy. A series of highly
specialized seminars provides the detailed knowledge to master the challenges of mobile communication test.
Knowledgeware products enable to meet new challenges in the rapidly changing field of telecommunication networks. Our spatial proximity to
R&D, marketing and sales units of global corporations and our partnership with leading consultants around the world allows us to provide the
available technical expertise earliest.

Special offers UMTS Signaling Book

Tektronix Network Diagnostics Academy introduces “UMTS Signaling – UMTS Interfaces, Protocols, Message Flows and Procedures
Analyzed and Explained” by R. Kreher & T. Ruedebusch, a Wiley & Sons Book.

With our first book “UMTS UTRAN Signaling” we focused on UMTS Signaling in UTRAN only. The success of this book and the positive
feedback convinced the well established publisher Wiley & Sons to ask us for an extension of the material. Not only UTRAN is covered, but
the Core Network this time, too!

“UMTS Signaling” gives a deep insight into the secrets and depths of UMTS signaling on the wireline interfaces. It focuses on providing an
overview and reference to UMTS UTRAN and Core networks. Details of the standards, the network architecture, objectives and functions of
the different interfaces and protocols are described and the latest updates for Rel. 4, Rel. 5 and Rel. 6 features are included. Additionally it
comprehensively describes various procedures from Node B Setup to different Handover types in the UTRAN and the Core Network. The
focus on wireline interfaces is unique in the market. All signaling sequences are based upon UMTS traces from various UMTS networks (trial
and commercial networks) around the world.

With this book you have access to the first universal UMTS protocol sequence reference, which allows you to quickly differentiate valid from
invalid call control procedures. In addition all the main signaling stages are explained, many of which had been left unclear in the standards
and valuable tips for protocol monitoring are provided.

UMTS Signaling gives you:

• An indepth
• Potential to analyze specific protocol messages
• Support to reduce time and effort to detect and analyze problems
• Explanations of how to locate problems in the network
• Tips and tricks for practical interface monitoring

The focus on the wireline interfaces is unique in the market. All information in the signaling procedures was taken from real UMTS traces, so
the book provides first hand, real world information.
