PART II – Long Answer Questions 30 Points

7. Read the poem and answer the questions. 8

My Shadow
I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow—

Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an india-rubber ball,
And he sometimes goes so little that there’s none of him at all

One morning, very early, before the sun was up,

I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head,
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

9. Read the story. 12

Oh no! My annoying neighbor was at it again. I looked at my watch. It

was 2 a.m. The drilling sound was getting louder by the second.
Just as I was putting on my slippers to go over and scold Erik, the noise
changed. Now, it was an irritating humming sound! It was like the
sounds people make to calm down crying babies. All of a sudden, the
humming changed to a loud ringing sound like one of those old-time
telephone bells.
I had had enough. I walked up to Erik’s house and rang the doorbell
three times.
Erik, my neighbor, opened the door. He looked as if he hadn’t combed
his hair in days.

“Hi, there, Mia!” he smiled a big smile.

I looked at my watch with a frown. “Do you have any idea what time it is?” I asked. He looked at the clock on the wall. “Oh, I had
no idea it was so late. I’m busy working on a robot that can make me breakfast. It’s almost finished. Do you want see it?”
Erik was a strange fellow! I sighed and shook my head. “Could you please make your breakfast-making robot in the morning, and
not right now at 2 a.m.?”
“Aye aye, Mia!” The sight of the untidy Erik saluting me had me laughing as I walked back home.
I knew he’d begin working on yet another silly invention when this one failed! None of Erik’s strange inventions ever worked
