The EQE of a solar cell depends both on the absorption of light and the collection
of charge carriers.
Photons with energy lower than the bandgap energy contribute to the increase of
the EQE of the solar cell.
Explanation
Photons with energy lower than the bandgap energy are not absorbed by the solar cell.
Therefore, they do not result in the generation of charge carriers and they do not
contribute to the EQE.
