CONTENT STANDARDS The learners demonstrate an understanding of key concepts of conic sections and systems of nonlinear
equations.
PERFORMANCE The learners shall be able to model situations appropriately and solve problems accurately using conic sections
STANDARDS and systems of nonlinear equations.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES LC1. Illustrate the different types of conic sections: parabola, ellipse, circle, hyperbola, and degenerate cases.
LC2. Define a circle.
LC5. Define a parabola.
LC8. Define an ellipse.
LC11. Define a hyperbola.
SPECIFIC LEARNING At the end of the lesson, the students with at least 80% of the performance level will be able to:
OUTCOMES a. Illustrate the different types of conic sections,
b. Define circle, parabola, ellipse and hyperbola.
LESSON OUTLINE:
RESOURCES
MOTIVATION
The teacher presents this picture on the class and ask the students the following questions:
1. Which of the following is best described on the first, second, third and fourth picture I’ve shown to
you?
2. Who can define now circle? Ellipse? Parabola? And hyperbola?
INSTRUCTION/DELIVERY
The teacher discusses the definitions of each term of different conic sections and relates it in real life
situation.
The students will be asked:
a. How will you define circle as one of the important conic sections in your daily living?
b. Give specific example of real life situation that involves parabola.
c. Degenerate cases at when does ellipse occur?
d. Give 2 specific things that will relate on hyperbola?
The teacher adds some information every time the students answer the questions.
PRACTICE
They will be grouped into 5, then they will be tasked to think real life situation where conic section may
occur. Only 10 minutes to prepare their task and present it on the class with the said rubric.
